I live in Makawao, Maui, on the side of the Haleakala Volcano. I work there as a psychologist. I grew up in Minnesota, moved to Florida, and moved again to Maui 15 years ago in search of ever-warmer climates. My caretaker, Crystal, lives on property downstairs, and will be there to welcome you and answer any questions.

Why maxwell chose Pahoa
The Puna Coast on the Big Island is a very unique place and a wonderful spot for me to get away from Maui and enjoy the quiet of the jungle.

Property was nicely maintained and the lanai was great in the mornings and evenings. Kitchen had everything we needed. Just for awareness the area is a bit far and remote from the rest of the island. We ended up spending a lot of time driving to see the sites. Also was a bit warm at times since there is no AC. Overally a nice place to stay particularly if you want to get away from it all. Owner was very nice.
Good place but too far inside due to road closure
The property and the property manager were great. The only caveat is due to the volcanic activity the attractions in the area including the beach and tide pools are not there and there is only one way to reach Hilo which is long now. So if you are thinking of targeting Hilo this might be a little far. If you are looking at Kalapana-Kapoho and neighborhood this is an ideal location
Nice stay. The rental had everything we needed for a quiet break.
Home was nice however we had no tv when it was listed
Also, location was quite a drive to many of the sites
very nice experience

Great place, clean, fabulous hosts!
We arrived to a clean (small) apartment with fabulous hosts (Max and his family) who introduced themselves and were incredibly helpful but gave us our space at the same time! They shared their home grown bananas and coconuts! Yum! It’s define a small two bedroom but it was doable for my husband, 2 year old, and father in law. The stairs thatvwe thkught would be difficult for my aged father in law were easier than we expected as they are sturdy and not on a huge incline. About a mile from the ocean (slight ocean view) but still a pretty view. Has mostly everything one needs. A little sparse on kitchen utensils but it was definitely doable for the 3 weeks we spent during our move transition. Beds were comfy. No tub. Just a shower so a little more challenging with a kiddo. Overall we would totally recommend this place without a doubt!
We are located just 5 minutes from the most recent lava flow, where you can explore the new beaches and caves.
