Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Valatie - The Kinderhook Farm Cottage

A Unique Place To Experience The Best Of The Hudson Valley.

The Farm Cottage is a restored 18c farm house nestled in the outlying pastures of Kinderhook Farm. Enjoy a private retreat surrounded by our grazing cattle and sheep, wild turkeys, foxes, Red Tailed Hawks, Barn Owls and an occasional Bald Eagle.

Please note that The Cottage is not The FarmStay - see listing # 342648 - which is an open sided red barn in the central area of Kinderhook Farm and is available late May through early October only. However, selective farm activities can still be enjoyed by conferring with farmers, Lee & Georgia, when you arrive.

Our kitchen is fully equipped to rustle up a delicious farm meal. We stock a variety of dried herbs and spices. In the warm months an outdoor herb garden is at hand and a barbecue is ready for grilling up some grass fed beef.

During the colder months, enjoy a meal by the fire with unobstructed field views through french doors. Either season our sunsets are spectacular displays of violets, pinks, golds, and soft greens.

The hub of Kinderhook Farm is in walking distance.

If you're traveling with young children we can provide you with a portable crib and linens, highchair, baby pool, kiddie bike and jogging stroller. We've also stocked up on board games and books for young and old. You'll find croquet, badminton and horseshoes available. Local tennis courts abound and there exists a secret swimming hole on the farm only available for FarmStayers and Cottagers.

Those who have experienced Kinderhook FarmStay know the unique excitement and beauty of living on the farm. The Farm Cottage is in response to those who have been interested in an extended opportunity - a stay that's available all year round.

In the fall, Columbia County is a painter's palette of color. Crisp weather is perfect for hiking, shopping and dining in Hudson or the Berkshires. Winter is beautiful, often snowy - and nothing better than having breakfast next to a cozy wood fire with a view of rolling pastures. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing is outside your door. Spring is seductive as flowers and trees emerge in soft yellow greens and lambing goes full tilt at the farm. Early summer is the beginning of the busiest time at the farm and in the Hudson Valley and things don't slow down until mid December.

The entire cottage is light filled. The first floor consists of a small entry way, living room, small sitting room/bedroom, bathroom, a kitchen/dining area with wood burning fireplace, and pantry/laundry room, Both the living room and kitchen have french doors leading out to a wrap around bluestone patio.

The master bedroom is upstairs as well as a bedroom with twin beds. There's plenty of storage.

Air conditioning and heat are included as is WiFi and cable television.

About Please check availability and book online

Renee and Steve are owners of Kinderhook Farm. Renee is an artist who shows at John Davis Gallery in Hudson, NY and is a tennis enthusiast. Steve manages money, the farm, and loves aviation, sailing, motorcycles and tractors. They share 5 children and one grandchild.

Why Please check availability and book online chose Hudson Valley

Renee redid this old cottage shortly before their main house up the road went through a major renovation which lasted two years.

Both Steve and Renee loved their time in the cottage where they often entertained lots of family and friends yet on cold winter mornings looked forward to coffee and breakfast sitting next to the kitchen fire.

The cottage was rented for several years and then accommodated extra weekend guests.

Renee decided to rent the cottage on a weekly basis when requests for Kinderhook FarmStay indicated that a lot of people might enjoy a farm stay year round and that the cottage could include more people in the farm experience.

What makes this cottage unique

Kinderhook Farm Cottage is an opportunity to experience life at Kinderhook Farm all year long as well as an opportunity to enjoy the vast number of attractions offered by Columbia County - the galleries, restaurants, shops, farmers markets, music and theater venues as well as a plethora of outdoor activities such as kayaking, skiing, tennis, birdwatching or just relaxing in a hammock under the radar.

Beautiful cottage and property!

  • 5 of 5

The owners left the light on for us as we were arriving late. The bed was ultra comfy so we slept really well. The next afternoon my husband enjoyed the hammock and at night we took advantage of the outside fire pit and the peaceful surroundings to enjoy a glass of wine before heading to bed. If you're looking for a quiet get-away in the country, this is the place.

Enjoyable and pleasant stay in a truly comfortable, well furnished, clean & well-maintained cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely cottage, that was comfortable and clean. Nice furniture, well stocked kitchen, fire pit in the backyard was a nice touch. The proximity to the lake was a nice bonus. Great place for kids as we were pleasantly surprised to find kiddie bikes, life vests , fishing gear, etc. Lots of pillows, blankets and air mattresses if there aren't enough beds to easily accommodate additional guests. The farm was close by and the farmers graciously let us partake in activities. All in all - a great trip!

Beautiful rustic cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful property- charming, cozy and with all the amenities you need. Not often you get to stay in a place, and location, as beautiful as this. My wife and I loved our stay and the property owners were equally warm and welcoming! Very highly recommended and we hope to come back again.

Pastoral charm!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a full week at the cottage with our 17 month old son. We figured he'd get a kick about seeing all of the animals at nearby Kinderhook Farm, but we never expected our backyard views across acres of rolling grassy hills to be so beautiful! Our son was entranced by the herd of cows grazing so close by, while my wife and I enjoyed reading in the hammock and stargazing by the light from the outdoor fire pit. The cottage itself is rustic and authentic, but well appointed and very clean. Sunlight poured through the myriad of windows, which we often opened in order to enjoy the cool breezes from outside. We had fun touring the farm, herding goslings and watching lambs being born. We hiked on a number of different nearby (10-20 min drive) nature trails well maintained by the Columbia Land Conservancy. Farm fresh produce was of course abundant. The trip way over-delivered versus our expectations!

For lovers of food and the outdoors

  • 5 of 5

My dogs and I were up for the week during lambing season at Kinderhook Farm and had a wonderful time (didn't hurt that we had 7 straight days of clear skies!). The cottage is as charming as it looks in the photos. Only a 10 minute drive away from Chatham and 15/20 minutes to Kinderhook and Hudson, so easy access to shops and local markets. And what a great kitchen! With access to amazing meats and eggs at the farm and local produce, it is the perfect place for any family that enjoys cooking & eating well.

Stopping in for a tour of Kinderhook Farm is a must or spend an afternoon helping out - the farmers are so welcoming and kind. I was lucky enough to be there at the start of lambing season to watch and learn from shepherd Anna and even got to gather eggs in the evening with farmer, Georgia (but beware of the brown Silkie...). Can't wait to go back!
