|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
The house has a private master bedroom & bath en suite on upper level with balcony overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea & Pitons. The main floor has 2 bedrooms both en suite with one having queen sized bed and the study having a single day bed.
The villa has many communal areas including a large living room & dining room that open up to the outdoors and large deck all with amazing views of the Caribbean Sea and the Pitons. There is a kitchen with attached small sitting area that has cable TV. There are other sitting areas including a private covered deck in the garden and a nice bathing deck by the pool as well as a outdoor cooking area. WIFI is available at Hermitage Jewel.
Private, very romantic, quite, spectacular view, fabulous house, near two very good restaurants and bars, with entertainment. near beach, near town, cooler temps because of high elevation. We also offer a local complimentary breakfast, of fresh seasonal fruit, local coffee, tea, bread, jam/jelly, and butter, all prepared and served by , your housekeeper, 6 days a week.
What a wonderful place to spend our first married week of life! From start to finish the villa staff ensured everything was perfect. From arranging the excursions we wanted to enjoy to planning where we would eat each meal, the staff arranged everything. All we had to do was be ready to go! Upon arrival, our driver NeverWeary who we used the entire week, picked us up at the airport and was the perfect tour guide as we made our way to the villa. Dian, the property manager, was there to greet us upon arrival with a fruit drink and a fabulous local meal delivered directly to the villa so we could relax and take in the sunset in romantic serenity. We were provided with a cell phone for use during our stay so we could call Dian or NeverWeary at any time. The house keeper Glenda, came by every morning at the time of our choosing to prepare an excellent island breakfast of fruits, juices, coffee, teas, breads, and jams and to clean up after us. We really enjoyed snorkeling using the gear provided by the villa. Anse Mamin was by far our favorite because it is very secluded and we loved the natural volcanic black sand. Have NeverWeary run you by the store to buy beers on the way to the beach. We hiked the Gros Piton and it is quite an exhaustive journey but well worth the views from the top. I would not suggest the hike unless you are in really good physical condition. We also enjoyed soaking in the mineral baths and walking from the villa to the volcano to soak in the sulphur springs. One evening Dian arranged for a private sunset boat ride which was very romantic. I believe our 2 favorite days were spent lounging all day at the villa. The views from the villa are nothing short of spectacular and the beautiful flowers surrounding the property provide for excellent bird watching. Each morning we would put out a banana for the birds and watch them enjoy breakfast as we enjoyed ours. During the middle of the day the crisp waters of the pool felt like paradise under the tropical sun. We also enjoyed a private massage at the villa! The open air nature of the villa was very romantic and it is secluded from surrounding properties. We loved falling asleep each night listening to the sounds of insects, birds, and rustling palm leaves. All of the staff went out of their way to make sure it was a memorable and perfect holiday.
Every review we read on these pages led us to expect a fabulous vacation. But everything we read was an understatement! From our first evening meal, catered by Chef Andy, to our sad drive back to the airport with Neverweary, we could not have imagined a more perfect escape.
We chose to get married in St. Lucia because it was about the only island left that neither of us had visited. Our priorities were privacy, local flavor and romance, as opposed to the action, nightlife and alcohol promised by the big resorts. And Hermitage Jewel exceeded our expectations in every way -- for a lot less than Sandals, by the way.
Other reviews do a good job describing the accommodations, the amazing breakfasts, the birds, the pool, the garden and the views (though no picture captures the feeling of awe as you first see the Pitons from your bedroom balcony). But the thing that differentiates Hermitage Jewel is personal service: the staff. Dian, Glenda and Neverweary not only anticipated and met our every need, they also became friends, served as our wedding attendants and joined us for our wedding night dinner at Ladera -- where Neverweary's band "Future Lights" was playing.
We came with a big list of things to do in St. Lucia. But as we sat on the deck looking at the Pitons with the Caribbean in the background, we decided to forego the activities we can do elsewhere or at home. Yes, we probably would have enjoyed the zip line, catamaran cruise and nature walks, etc., but we can do them later. We ended up only visiting the botanical gardens, soaking in the mineral springs, playing in the mud baths in the volcano and snorkeling from Sugar Beach, all of which we wholeheartedly endorse. With Neverweary as our personal tour guide, I imagine the cruise ship tourists were jealous of our VIP treatment. But our favorite activities were watching the sunset while lying on the bed, trying to photograph a hummingbird by the pool, laughing at the birds & lizards fighting over a banana on the deck, shooing the chicken from the kitchen … :-)
We will never replicate our Hermitage Jewel experience, and can’t wait to return.
We came BACK for a 2nd time...what a wonderful place to unplug and disconnect. While the hermitage jewel is a special place, my wife and I both feel that it's the people that really make this place so unique...Dian, Neverweary, Glenda, and Eddie. Words aren't enough and we couldn't be more thankful for our 2nd experience on this beautiful island. We really enjoyed taking walks around the property this time around...so much beauty to take in...just lovely! We're so thankful to all involved with caring for the hermitage jewel...wonderful people ensured another wonderful experience for our 2 yr anniversary.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here for 9 days, but weathered out Tropical Storm Matthew for an extra two! Let us assure you that the house is fantastic, but those that staff it are truly where its heart is. This was our first experience with any sort of VRBO or rental.
I suppose we should begin with our first encounter, who was our driver Never Weary. I had heard so many great things about this man, and they were all true! Kind, considerate, funny, knowledgeable! He picked us up from the airport, but we also requested him through our stay to drive us to different destinations - and we wouldn't have done it any other way! Even IF we were brave enough to learn to drive a car in the left lane and navigate our way through St. Lucia, he puts most tour guides to shame! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to all of his botanical lessons, learned to identify native trees and their fruit, and learned much about the very misunderstood Rastafarian way. You don't meet many people like Never Weary!
He took us to a supermarket to pick up some food items for our stay, and this is where we had our biggest laugh! We didn't realize St. Lucian currency is totally different that the American Dollar (though it sounds so silly to be admitting it here in a public forum!), and were therefore astonished by the exasperatingly high prices! Bear in mind, it is $2.67 EC to $1 US! I would also tell you to not really bother meal planning for the week, because more likely than not, you'll be eating out at the fabulous restaraunts around the villa. Drinks, snacks, but you don't need much else!
Dian greeted us at the villa upon arrival, and she is insanely sweet and thoughtful! She surprised us with a honeymoon gift by a local wood carver, whose work is displayed throughout the villa. After a tour of the villa, we discussed some ideas we had in mind of what we'd like to do for the week, and she had some ideas if her own! Our advice: do it all! She stopped by through the week to check on us and brought goodies with her every time to enrich our Lucian experience!
Glenda and Eddy were great to see every morning. Her breakfasts are delicious creations, and I learned so much about Lucian food preparation from watching her. I can't wait to make my own tropical juice here! I suggest you request the Johnny Cakes of her one day - both savory and sweet.
I'd detail everything we had done in St. Lucia, but I'm running out of room! Book your vacation here - you won't regret it.
We had such a great trip to St. Lucia. The views were amazing and we found ourselves constantly spending more and more time at the villa because the peacefulness and views recharge your soul. Sleeping with the doors wide open was such an experience. You felt at one with nature. Waking up each morning and seeing the Petit Piton was truly waking up in paradise. Ask Dian all kinds of questions as she will make sure you are catered to on every level. Glenda does a wonderful with breakfast and making sure you have everything you need around the villa. Eddy keeps the grounds looking great. Do not even think about renting a car because Neverweary is the best driver and a local google search engine for everything St. Lucia. Make sure hear his band play at Dashene, a short walk from the villa. He will even drive you home between sets or afterwards so you don't have to walk in the dark. Embrace the culture, the heat, the stars, the people, the rain, and the beauty.
Things we did:
Diamond Waterfall/Botanical Gardens
Tour of Sourfiere by Neverweary
Sugar Beach (Beach and snorkeling)
Anse Chastanet (Beach and snorkeling)
Neverweary's Band (Dashene)
Hiked Gros Piton
A lot of relaxing at the villa
We stayed at the Villa for a week with another couple. Our stay at Hermitage Jewel exceeded our expectations! I would recommend contacting Dian before you get there so she can plan your stay. She knows all of the details and events prior to your arrival and is happy to plan your vacation for you. I wish we had utilized her more. Glenda, the housekeeper, made amazing breakfast and juices each day! Eddie who took care of the pool was just the sweetest! Things I wish we had known:
- Hiring a driver is pretty much the same cost as renting a car. Netherweary and Mario were very friendly and reliable. Dian gives you a cell phone for the week so you can always call your driver to pick you up!
- Plan to have more meals cooked at the villa by Dian's cook. It's very expensive to eat out for dinner. We loved lunch at Fedo's and Martha's Table. The restaurant at Ladera was way overpriced and disappointing.
- Ask Dian to plan a dinner at Jade Mountain- it's expensive but our favorite night out!
- We hiked the Gros Pitons and it cost $35 per person. This took 4 hours and was a challenge but beautiful!
- The botanical gardens cost $7 to enter and $7 for the mineral baths.
-you can walk to the Sulphur Springs but it's a hike back! It's best to go early in the morning and they open at 6 AM. The cost is $5 per person.
-use the snorkeling gear from the house. Snorkeling is great at Anse Chasenet beach and Sugar Beach. Sugar beach is closer and more populated but they have white sand. Anse Chasenet has volcanic sand. We were glad we went to both!
-Tuesday nights, La Chocolat has a buffet for 50 per person. Delicious and close to the villa!
- We used Captain Dan's Feel Good Boat Tour. I wouldn't recommend the snorkeling tour because you can just snorkel at Anse Chasenet and Sugar Beach but we loved the sunset cruise. Check out Captain Dan's website for all of his tours! He was great!
There is so much to do you near the Villa! Don't even think twice about staying at a resort because this place is one-of-a-kind! You were treated like royalty and you feel like you're on a private resort! The only negative thing I will say about St. Lucia is that I had no idea how expensive it was to eat out and the water is greener rather than turquoise. I'm so glad we planned on staying at this villa! Staying at a resort wouldn't have been the same at all! You should book Hermitage Jewel.
The Hermitage Jewel villa is located within the property of the UNESCO World Heritage Site recognizing the beauty of the world famous mountains, Gros & Petit Piton. We look over the roof tops of the Ladera Resort. The house has a stunning view from the front of miles of Caribbean Sea and Piton mountains and behind the villa is a view of the tropical rain forest. The property is lush with flowers and fruit trees and there are lots of hummingbirds feasting on the abundance of floral nectar. Sunrise can bring a luminous rainbow and sunsets are brilliant and worthy of an evening toast.
It is a perfect destination for newly weds.
There are some of the finest resorts, restaurants and spas on the island within close proximity.
