Having lived here on our farm for over 20 years raising gardens, lamb, pork & poultry, as well as 5 kids, we know what it takes to keep things active and entertain large groups. Being avid hikers, cyclers and skiers ourselves, we can be of service in guiding you to whatever your passion may be.
So, if you’re looking for a 4-season playground, a lovely spot to host an event, or just a place to relax, the Cherry Valley Farm is waiting for you!
We are 'locals'. I (Sam) was born and raised in nearby Sugar Hill. Louisa has been coming to Franconia since she was a kid and moved here in the early 80s.
We are a blended family with 5 kids, all of whom have gotten through college and moved on leaving us in the dust with a big, empty farm house. Bitter sweet...
Louisa is a middle school math & science teacher and I am a woodworker.
Outdoor activities are our passion. Whether it's running up a mountain, riding down the road or 'sloppin' the hogs'.
We are also travelers ourselves having hiked and biked much of France and England so we know what itchy feet can feel like.
Sam Cushing and Louisa Bliss purchased this apartment in 1992
In 1991 we started looking for a place where we could raise our kids and have a small farm. The Cherry Valley Farm turned up and immediately we knew it was the place for us. A quiet street, a spacious house, BIG barn and enough property for raising animals and kids with plenty of privacy.
Over the past couple years of renting our apartment we have had requests for the availability of our entire place to host a larger event. In response we are making that offer.

Literally, right from our dooryard, you can put on your hiking shoes, snow shoes, cross country skis or clip into the pedals of your bike and go for miles and miles. Our farm is surrounded by fields, forests and trails that cater to four season fun.
And if you're into cycling, we can guide you to any level of some of the best road riding in the world.
If hiking is your thing, we're 15 minutes from trail heads to the Presidential Range and Appalachian Trail as well as a myriad of other options from peaceful and pleasant to painful.
Love to ski? Again, we are minutes from some of the best downhill and Nordic skiing the East has to offer.
The house (attached to the owner's home) is located on a farm in the beautiful White Mountains region. The design of the interior was modern and had all of the necessary amenities that one would need for a short or long-term stay (there's even a bonus of the floor being heated in the bathroom). You are close enough to the towns of Bethlehem and Littleton (grocery stores, etc.) but far enough to feel like you've really gotten away from the city. The views of the trees and the mountains in the distance are beautiful and the drive to Crawford and Franconian parks are 20 minutes away. It's also fun to see and hear the horses, chickens, pigs and the owner's dog! The owners were very friendly and hospitable and were there if needed, but we did not have any issues so we did not need to contact them after checking in.
The only minor comment is that we kept hitting our heads on the triangular/slanted ceilings (A-frame style) on the top floor of the house and the main bedroom has a bed on a somewhat awkward step-up which can be hazardous if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Overall, it was a superb house, location and destination for anyone who is looking for a comfortable & peaceful getaway!
The apartment is well organized, clean, enjoyable. Everything needed is there. The surroundings are beautiful, the land is loved and well taken care, so are the horses running in the fields, the dog is lovely, the chickens are funny! We had a few talks with the owner and she was relaxed and helpful. The week we were there it was very very hot so the rooms upstairs tend to get too warm if it is an issue with you. But at night, every things cools down.
Enjoyed the terrace in the evening and the sun sets very much. Well located to go hike in any directions. We would go there any time. Must be beautiful in all seasons.
My husband and I recently visited the farm for 4 days with our two dogs. The apartment is beautifully updated and has many little perks including a beautiful deck. Our hosts Sam and Louisa were very kind and considerate. They let us have our privacy and enjoy their beautiful piece of property. But they were also available for any questions on local hikes and places to eat. We had such a fun and relaxing time and would love to come back for the fall foliage. Thank you so much for everything.

Cherry Valley Farm was everything we were looking for in a vacation rental; quiet, clean, with a beautiful view from the back deck. The kitchen was well stocked and all the appliances were nearly brand new. Sam's skill with woodwork is evident throughout the apartment. There were trail maps provided for us to plan our hiking routes, and the owners also gave us some great ideas for some relatively easy and more difficult day hikes. The location was perfect for accessing many of the popular areas in the White Mountains and shopping was less than 10 minutes away. We definitely hope to return soon!
My husband and I (and our dog) just returned from a ten day stay at Cherry Valley Farm. Sam & Louisa were the most gracious and welcoming hosts we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They welcomed us and our dog as if we were lifelong friends and bent over backward helping us through a few vacation "issues" that we were faced with.
The apartment was clean and cozy and offered us the most beautiful of sunsets. The working farm was a fantastic change of scenery from the overcrowded NJ town where my husband and I reside. Sam & Louisa are a wealth of information for anyone looking for great hiking, biking, and swimming holes.
My husband and I can't say enough good things about Sam & Louisa and Lucy their dog. We feel like we have made friends for life!
