My husband is a native Floridian who has lived in the Mt. Dora area for years. We know you will love the area as much as we do!
Mary Horsman purchased this house in 2012
We spent 3 weeks in this wonderful place. Mary could not have been nicer or more helpful. What a gracious host. Her home has so many nice details. We cooked many gourmet meals in her very modern kitchen. The garden has fruit trees with a lush, tropical setting. Great place for morning coffee or evening wine! We really recommend this home. We are daily walkers and we enjoyed the path around Lake Gertrude as well as the convenient close by parks and paths. The downtown area of Mount Dora is so charming and friendly. It's just a nice place to relax. Lovely, safe neighborhood and a town with lakes galore.
My wife and I stayed at the Lake House for the month of February. It is a charming little house, comfortable and has some great orange and grape fruit trees in the back yard so we had fresh fruit every day which was a very nice treat for us. The owners were very attentive to our needs. Mt. Dora is a wonderful village with many excellent restaurants, bars, gift shops, art galleries and the entire village is very easy to walk through. We enjoyed some great food and sunsets at Pisces Rising and the Lakeside Inn. There is a boat tour of the Lake Dora that is very interesting and informative. Our 20 something daughters even enjoyed it when they visited with us. Also, Mt. Dora is only about an hour from the ocean and the horse country in Ocala. We had a great time.
Other guests have described this property as a home away from home and that's exactly what it is! Comfortable, beautifully furnished and in an attractive and peaceful neighbourhood, with a great garden, too! The owners are very friendly and attentive and provided a helpful list of suggestions of places to visit. Mount Dora is a charming place - lots of lovely little shops and restaurants. We would recommend a boat tour of the lake and surrounding area, which we enjoyed very much. We liked the fact that we were away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando but still within easy reach of the theme parks, Space Centre etc.
This was the most beautiful house we have ever stayed in for a vacation! There is everything you could need or want! The kitchen is complete with a full size refrigerator, a beautiful stove/oven, a full size sink. The bedrooms are very cozy. There are two rooms, each with a luxurious queen size bed. The beds are extremely comfortable and really allow for a refreshing night's sleep. Outside is a beautiful garden and a comfortable sitting area. There is also a pool outside that is perfect for cooling off. It is gated so we didn't have to worry about our little ones falling in. The town is also perfect with quaint shops and restaurants. We had Thai food one night that we really enjoyed. Our experience was a 10 out of 10 and that's a lot considering we have two babies and it's hard to find a place you can truly relax in and enjoy that is also safe and accommodating for a young family. We truly had a wonderful tI'm and look forward to our next visit!
My family and I had a fantastic week exploring Mt. Dora and surrounding areas. Every night after our excursions, we were so thankful we had a clean, comfortable, and fully-furnished home away from home to go home to. (The heated pool was a bonus!) We had a full kitchen to take advantage of; a washer and dryer that we used; a wonderful backyard to explore and so much more. We felt so at home that we even enjoyed pizza and beer while watching football!
Thank you so much for providing my family and I more than we needed to make this trip a super memorable one. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property to anyone and everyone looking for a great vacation rental. You will love it as much as we did!
What a charming home, on a quiet side street adjacent to Lake Gertrude! we were delighted with this beautifully remodeled classic home on a tranquil, tropical lot. On other trips, we've stayed in everything from motels to condos, but we've come to really appreciate the luxury of staying in a furnished private home -- it is relaxing in a way that even the fanciest B&B cannot match.
This cute 1950s ranch has been wonderfully remodeled and decorated, with the highlight being an elegant kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and granite counters. It was all spanking brand new as of our visit (2/2/14) and miles above anything we've ever seen in a rental. The rest of the home is a very classic traditional charmer, petite but gracious. There is a open living room (with original fireplace), dining area and kitchen, plus 2 spacious bedrooms. In the delightful back yard is a small heated pool in a "birdcage" enclosure, plus a lovely porch, patio and arbor leading to a sort of "secret tropical garden" in back -- a real surprise, you cannot see this at all from the street -- filled with orange and lemon trees and live oaks. Entirely fenced, this was a great area to relax and hangout (our dog loved it too!).
This area around Lake Gertrude was new to me (though I've visited downtown Mt Dora many times); it is only 5 minutes from the center of town. In nice weather, you could easily bike there (and the owner has been nice enough to leave two bikes!). We enjoyed the dog park across the street, and wonderful walks around the lake.
House is beautifully appointed with all the amenities you could want, from china & cookware, to upscale linens and really pretty antiques & paintings. This isn't the rental with the cast-off, make-do stuff -- it feels like you are staying in someone's beloved private home. A very special experience. We recommend this home without hesitation to anyone staying in the area; we only regret we couldn't have stayed all winter!
