About Greg and Michele

We bought a vacation home in Big Pine to be able to relax and enjoy the Florida Keys atmosphere! We have decided to share our Sunsplash getaway with others. We hope you get as much enjoyment from it as we do, and make our place your vacation destination for years to come.

Greg and Michele purchased this house in 2013

Why Greg and Michele chose Big Pine Key

You will love the beautiful canal view and all there is to offer in the area such as great fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, water sports, shopping, local restaurants or just hanging out. The Winn Dixie grocery store is a five minute drive away. Coupon Bight Aquatic Preserve and Bahia Honda State Park are both nearby attractions. There is nothing like the laid back atmosphere of the Keys to make it your vacation destination. Relax at one of the many open air restaurants such as Boondocks (with live music), and have a cold drink and a great meal. Sunset Grille in Marathon offers al fresco dining and spectacular sunsets, or if you prefer indoor dining, try Square Grouper Bar & Grill, Bella Luna, Fish Restaurant & Bar.

What makes this house unique

The Big Pine Key area offers much to do and much to explore. It is far enough away from the 'big city life' which makes it far less congested and more 'natural' than the Upper Keys, yet it is still close enough to the 'Southernmost Point of the United States', Key West, to enjoy a multitude of opportunities for both fine and casual dining, nightlife, shopping and outdoor activities for all members of your family. Enjoy the Key Deer while staying on Big Pine Key. They're a natural beauty in our area, but please do observe the speed limits during day AND evening driving so they remain safe!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing us to stay at your lovely home for our family vacation. We made some terrific memories here on Big Pine Key. We visited all the Keys from Marathon to Key West during our stay. There was a five point buck in the yard when we arrived! We enjoyed the lobster season, diving at Looe Key, and fishing for Mahi Mahi. We hope to be able to come back and visit soon!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

We chose this place due to its proximity to Looe Key diving. The home was very clean in a quiet neighborhood. Great location to scuba shop and marina for gas. Also nice to be close to Key West too (30-40 min drive). We enjoyed dinner at Boondocks one night:) Make sure to visit the deer and the No Name Pub if you can! We were not impressed with the Bahia-Honda park (not much beach, overcrowded), but we have the best beaches here in SC! Having a boat there was a must! The kids enjoyed the xbox a lot when we were home. We had 3 teenagers with us, and they loved it too!

Owner's Response: Wonderful news that you enjoyed your time at Sunsplash and exploring Big Pine Key, as well as Key West! Boondocks is a great open air restaurant with a steady flow of live music to accompany dinner. No Name Pub is such an eclectic restaurant; worth the few mile drive into the quieter part of Big Pine Key, and a great opportunity to see many Key Deer!! We'd love to have your family back to Sunsplash when you're ready for another Keys vacation!!!

clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our trip to the Florida Keys. This year we were lucky enough to have stayed in Greg and Michele's Sunsplash property on Big Pine Key. The exterior as well as the complete interior was clean and well groomed. The tastefully decorated home had ample space for us to spread out. The access to the clear and quiet canal was awesome. I only wish we had a boat to pull into that great space. Other than the occasional Key Deer, the neighborhood was peaceful and consisted of other well-kept properties. Big Pine Key is a wonderful location to stay and allows excellent access to Bahia-Honda one direction and Key West the other. Michele was very quick to respond to all of our e-mails and phone calls making our rental process very pleasant. We enthusiastically recommend this property for a family or group of friends to enjoy the Florida Keys.

Owner's Response: We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at Sunsplash and found it to be clean and comfortable. Our location on Big Pine Key allows either a short trip to Key West or Bahia Honda, affording something to do for everyone. The Key Deer are always a beautiful site and a wonderful reminder of nature. We hope that you are able to return to Sunsplash for future vacations!

Warm and smiling

  • 5 of 5

Sunsplash was a very comfortable, exceptionally clean and sunny home to spend a great vacation. There were 5-6 of us and the home absorbed all of us so easily. Close to both Bahia Honda State Park for beach days as well as opportunities for snorkeling, fishing and other day trips. We loved being on the canal and only wish we had our own boat to explore the waters nearby -- next time. Big Pine Key is relatively quiet with the Key Deer Refuge and there are lovely walking trails and bike paths too. Some eclectic local and very tasty restaurants added to the fun as well!

Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our Winter Getaway at Sunsplash. We had a wonderful winter in Greg and Michele's beautiful, clean and well kept home. It definitely is a turn key home and has everything you need for a most enjoyable stay. We especially loved all the space we had in the closets and in the empty cabinet drawers in the bedrooms and the kitchen. We have rented in the Keys for many years but this was our first year at Sunsplash. The owners have a hands on approach to renting this property which more owners of rental properties should have. They truly care and see to it that you have everything you need to make your stay perfect. They were a delight to work with. Sunsplash is close to everything you need without having to travel to other Keys. We highly recommend this property and cannot wait to return this coming Winter.

Great Vacation - Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Booked Sunsplash in March, stayed in April. Greg & Michele tag-teamed the email correspondence and were back to us within minutes on everything. Couldn't ask for any better on booking logistics & questions.

The place itself is immaculate and very spacious. Kitchen is big and opens to the dinning area and family room. Fans throughout made it very comfortable. There were 7 of us (me, wife, in-laws, & 3 kids) and it never felt crowded.

Location was perfect for what we were looking to do. Very deep canal access directly into Pine Chanel & Newfound Harbor. Had a 23' center console and was out to Looe Key within 25 minutes or Gulf side within 45 minutes. We snorkeled, swam, fished, & relaxed in the crystal clear, warm waters of the Keys. Next time the kids will be old enough to dive! When the winds picked up we simply went to Picnic Island close by or made the journey around to the Gulf side where miles of endless sand bars & mangroves to explore await the kids. Key West is a short drive in for a day trip and Bahia Honda Park is definitely worth a visit. This was one of the best vacations we've taken and Sunsplash was a perfect place for us.
