Suzanne, a former Wall Street Investment Advisor, and wife of a career diplomat, returned to hometown, Malone NY 25 years ago when she purchased Kilburn Manor to run as a Bed and Breakfast. In September 2016, she married Bill, a childhood acquaintance. Their 4 children live in 4 countries and both are avid travelers. By transforming what has been a very popular Bed & Breakfast ( search reviews on the web for Kilburn Manor Bed and Breakfast) into a Vacation Rental, Suzanne has created opportunities to visit her children and to explore a few vacation rentals herself!
Suzanne Coughlin purchased this house in 1992
Malone's citizens are overwhelmingly friendly and open. I had a fascination for this beautiful home formerly owned by Congressman Kilburn. My mother used to regale me with stories of the myriad of dinner parties given by Congressman and Mrs. Kilburn. When I saw the inside of the Manor 23 years ago I was absolutely smitten. It needed some TLC but the bones were amazing. Nearly 5000 sq. ft., it is a most welcoming home, so well -built with so much character and a plethora of unique features. Although somewhat formal, the Manor is nurturing and supremely comfortable.
You will likely find everything you might possibly need for a large family or friends gathering. There are several areas for both inside and outside gatherings whether it be the Dining Room, Breakfast Room, fireside in the great room, nestled in the library, mind drifting on the Verandas watching the birds or the children play, poolside or even in the forest's canvas tent Each bedroom has the top of the line mattresses and was conceived with comfort and convenience in mind. If you are looking for the perfect place for a family
reunion, a corporate retreat, a wedding, a golf or ski gathering with your friends or family we think you will all be delighted with your choice to gather at Kilburn Manor.
This is a lovely home, well furnished and roomy enough for our 14 traveler group. It has a wonderful pool that was an important feature for the five eager tweens and teens. Malone is located very close to the Canadian border and the huge Adirondack State Park. The Almanzo Wilder Farm has tours of the historic property (remember reading those "Little House" books?) and local farmers offer great produce, meat and dairy products. Make sure you visit Nancy's restaurant in town--the home-cooked comfort food is fantastic and the staff is welcoming. The property could use some updating to make it a bit more fresh and modern--new sheets, towels, and cookware--if you are staying a week or longer, this becomes important. We were glad for the special attention from Susan, the owner, via phone/text, and from Liz and Gene on the premises. We had a great stay!
I grew up in Malone and never knew this wonderful property was there! My wife and sister, my nephew and his wife and five children were privileged to stay in the historic and welcoming manor for five days and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We rented the entire Manor and it was the perfect setting for this large of a group. The children enjoyed the large yard and the pool and we all enjoyed our meals around the large kitchen table. We look forward to our next stay at the Kilburn Manor!
My wife and I stayed in the Judges suite, just a simple stay to do some black Friday shopping. What a wonderful property. Lots of old character, and warmth. We really look forward to returning next year, perhaps maybe more often. Nice and quiet, and the Owner was very accommodating considering I was arriving on thanks giving.
This historic home was warm and inviting. Very comfortable. We rented the whole house for a family vacation that included kids ages 8-17, and 6 adults. There was plenty of space for all. The bedrooms are light and bright, beds comfy. The main living areas were enjoyed by all. The kitchen is particularly well equipped and easy to work in. Skiing nearby was great and we plan on returning in the future.
My daughter and her fiancé rented the entire Manor for their bridesmaids and groomsmen. They figured it was much more economical than renting 14 motel rooms. Where else would you have free run of a house (a mini museum-really) with an expansive living room, pool, and yard. And although not many in the wedding party used the library, it was a nice quiet place for me, the Father-of-the-Bride, to sit and talk with old friends from out of town.
Your beautiful manor was the perfect backdrop for our bridal party pictures. We had a wonderful time: Thank you so much! --Happy Bride
We had such a great time here and created unforgettable memories that we will cherish forever! Thank you! --Happier Groom
Malone is a charming village which offers visitors numerous examples of superb Victorian as well as Greek Revival Architecture of which Kilburn Manor is one. Malone's citizens are overwhelmingly friendly and open. Malone is ideally located at the edge of the Adirondack Park, within minutes to several lakes, rivers, mountains climbs, and museums.
We boast world class golfing (our pro is 2015's PGA President). Our trout streams are said to be the best kept secret in North America. We are home to the Almonzo Wilder Farm (Little House on the Prairie series) Within approximately an hour's drive, Lake Placid, Ottawa and Montreal make wonderful day trips
