About Terry Myers

Hi, we are the owners, Ted and Terry Myers. We love the outdoors and especially this beautiful lake. Over the years we frequently vacationed at Dale Hollow Lake. In 2000 we rented a cabin on the lake and dreamed of having our own. During that vacation we met a log home builder who also had lake view property for sale so you can guess what happened. We purchased the property and began the planning process for building our own log home. The building of the chalet was a family affair so we took great pride in the work quality completing 80% ourselves. A year later the home was complete and we have been enjoying it with friends and family since 2001. Now we have decided to open it up to you.

We feel very blessed to have the Chalet and choose to pass that blessing on to others by donating a week's vacation at the Chalet to various charitable groups. Since we began renting the Chalet in 2014 we have donated over 10 weeks. Our goal is to donate 10% of our gross revenue annually, and we have far exceeded that number to date. We are truly blessed.

Ted was born in New York and moved around quite a bit as a military kid. His father's last post was at WPAFB in Dayton Ohio. Terry was born and raised in Ohio and met Ted when they both worked retail during college. We married after graduation and a few years later moved to Kentucky and we have been here since.

Terry Myers purchased this chalet in 2001

Why Terry Myers chose Kentucky

Imagine traveling down a county maintained gravel road for a mile. At the end of the road sits a beautiful log home for your vacation. Surrounded by woodlands, some of which are owned by the Army Corp of Engineers, your only visitors will be squirrels, deer, and turkey by day and owls by night.

Friends and family who have stayed with us say there is something about staying at the Happy Hill Chalet that makes you sleep better at night. It could be its secluded location, it could be a day of fun on the lake, hiking, or ATV riding, it could be relaxing on the back deck or in the hot tub, or the comfortable beds, but whatever it is it seems to work if you need to rest.

What makes this chalet unique

Large enough to accommodate a group of 19 without feeling like your are crowding each other, yet cozy enough for smaller groups. With 3,800 square feet inside plus upper and lower decks on both the front and back of the home, you will have plenty of room to come together or have some separate space.

Oh my goodness!!! What an amazing place for our family reunion!! Everything we needed and more. Kitchen was wonderfully stocked with all our needs including great seating areas. Had 2 great meals thanks to gas grills! Basement game area was spacious and had plenty of fun things for every age. All 3 outside decks were awesome! The front porch was so inviting and great for group pictures. The porch swing so roomy. The campfire area was a popular gathering spot. Beds were so comfy and the sheets were soft. Decor was so fun throughout! View from the hotub was beautiful and close to deck seating to include everyone in conversations. We had a the absolutely fantastic weekend. Availability of owners to handle minor hot tub problem was immediate and very kind. We just had such a GREAT time and appreciate how secluded it was from everything. Was very well prepared for our stay. Thank you just doesn't say enough!!!

A few things to consider. The Chalet sits at the end of a ridge and is accessed by a gravel road. The road is approximately 40 feet wide with forested hills on either side. There is a large hill with a steep grade at the entrance to the property. Therefore leaving the Chalet in a two-wheel drive vehicle requires speed and momentum to carry you up and over the hill, especially if you are loaded down with people and coolers. If you are towing a boat, we recommend you rent a slip at one of the nearby marinas and drop the boat off before you arrive at the Chalet. It is possible to bring a small boat down to the Chalet (24 feet or less), but you will need four-wheel drive to get out over the hill if you are towing a boat. The chalet is surrounded by forest and sits on top of a ridge. Therefore, it is not practical to get to the lake from the Chalet. We recommend accessing the lake via one of the nearby marinas.

Family fun

We stayed at the cabin Feb 16-20. This was our first time in the Dale Hallow area. The cabin is in a very quiet and secluded place. Everything was in place, clean and ready for our arrival. Terry, the owner, answered all our questions we had before arriving. The packet he sent had every detail about the area and cabin. We have had our yearly cabin trip at other places but none had as many extras as this one. The hot tub was huge! And the game room had enough to keep us all busy at night.

One disappointment was that the lake was a distant view. Did not see a trail going down but would have been quite a walk down through thick woods and then back up. We did go to the Dale Hallow Park to do our hiking. We spent a lot of time outside since the weather was so nice.

The only real problem was the wasps! My daughter in law was stung on two different occasions INSIDE the cabin. The bedroom she was in had many wasps and she took another bedroom after the first sting.! We did find wasps in most rooms, even in the bathroom, on the main floor and upstairs, none in the downstairs level. We saw many nests in the eaves on the outside of the cabin. There was bug repellent in the cabin but we needed something more but also did not want a strong odor of pesticide in the cabin. I am allergic to bees but luckily was not the victim.

Other than the wasps , the cabin was perfect for us. The only noise was our conversations and laughter, no city lights , just stars, so very peaceful. This cabin has it all. And we didn't turn on the TV, not once!!

This cabin is a little piece of heaven!!

Owner's Response: We agree, the chalet is a little piece of heaven. We are so pleased you found the Chalet had many more extras than other cabins you have rented like the large hot tub and game room. We too wish we could build steps that would allow you to access the lake from the Chalet. However, Army Corp of Engineers rules for Dale Hollow Lake do not allow them. That is how they maintain such a pristine lakefront which is beautiful when you are boating on the lake. We were very disturbed to hear that you had problems with wasps. We spray twice a year which is the manufacture’s recommended maximum frequency. We normally spray at the end of March which catches them before they emerge. However, I guess with February’s mild temperatures they emerged early. We have since sprayed and removed nests so there shouldn’t be a problem going forward. Our sincere apologies that you and your family encountered them.

What a beautiful log cabin!!! It had every amenity we needed and we enjoyed every moment here.

I have never stayed in a cabin that met all the needs for our large group. Terry was easy to get ahold of and the place was perfect!! We travel each year as a group to different places for New Years and this was the best place by far!

This cabin is absolutely gorgeous and very secluded. It is beautifully decorated and so spacious. They have literally thought of everything - there are games, coloring books, a great selection of movies and books, kitchen has anything you might need - you just need to bring your food. The lower level has a pool table and foos ball which were big hits in the evening with parents vs. kids! The Directv has some good channels available (not just basic or those where you can't find anything on). This is a pet friendly cabin and we were so pleased that we were able to bring our dog along. They have recycle bins and a bin of things for your dog in case you forget your food/water bowls. It was very clean all throughout. The views off the back deck towards the lake are lovely. The hot tub - it is probably the nicest hot tub I've ever been in in a rented cabin!

You should know that the driveway is long and you really should have AWD or 4 WD as some of the hills are steep and there are ruts from previous vehicles trying to make it up. We just it took very slow in and out. The owner's suggestion that you rent a slip - my husband agrees with this completely. He pulled our boat in initially and we realized that was not something we were going to be able to do each time we wanted to go out. The driveway was just really hard on the trailer tires.

Would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Whether beautiful sunny days, snowy wintery days, or somewhere in between we strive to have amenities to accommodate our guest’s needs. We try to think of everything from what you need in the kitchen to serve up a meal for 19, to what your pets may need to be comfortable, to how to minimize our impact on the environment. We are glad our efforts are noticeable. The hills around the Chalet are steep and for convenience we recommend guests rent a slip at one of the local marinas rather than launching their boat each time. We have found that the nearby marinas do a good job of overseeing their docks and most if not all have night security. We moored our boat at Holly Creek Marina for over 10 years and never had any problems. Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and we hope to have you back the next time you come to Dale Hollow Lake.

What a gorgeous place and beautiful view! We had the amazing opportunity to spend ten wonderful days at this one of a kind property. It was so spacious for all our guests who joined and very accommodating... to the fully stocked kitchen to the comfortable beds. There are not very many places you can find that accomodate 19 people comfortably and this fits the bill. It's very well maintained and beautifully deocorated. With only minutes to the mariana we spent wonderful days on the lake to come back to this relaxing, cozy chalet. The owners take great pride in maintaining this place and you can tell. They are wondeful people and are attentive to their guests needs. It was hard to leave to come back to the real world! Will definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: The view from the property is the main reason we picked the lot where the Chalet is located. It is so enjoyable to sit on the back deck with a cup of coffee in the morning and listed to the woods wake up in the morning, and equally as relaxing is enjoying the hot tub while star gazing in the evening. We do all we can to make sure the interior of the Chalet is comfortable, especially the beds, and is decorated in an inviting manner. We want our guests to feel like they are surrounded by comfort and beauty as they get away from their daily responsibilities. We often hear that our guests do not want to leave and go back to reality and we feel the same way when we stay there. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to having you back again.

The property was very nice. Very secluded and close to the marina. They provided just about everything you would need. The fire pit was amazing. The down side were the wasp inside the property and directly outside on the porch. The road to the property was also very trying. And no access to wifi.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and feel the owner was very accomodating in providing accurate information that affected our stay.

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear you found the Chalet provided most everything you need. The secluded location is a favorite of many guests. Being surrounded by nothing but trees and beautiful scenery while still having access to town and the lake makes most guests feel like they really “got away from it all”. We are sorry to hear you had a problem with wasps. If we knew; we would have come over immediately and sprayed to get rid of them. Being situated in the woods, we can’t avoid them, but we do everything we can to minimize them by spraying several times throughout the season. The staff checks for them in-between guests and sprays if they find any, but they must not have seen the ones that were pestering you. We are careful to make sure our property amenities (such as no WiFi) and unique characteristics (such as a steep road) are accurately described on our site. We reiterate these in writing when our guests book their stay. However, we realize guests are busy and don’t always have the time to read everything. I hope these two items did not cause too much of an inconvenience.
