About Andy Garrett

Originally from rural South Dakota, I've been a resident of the Puget Sound area since 1977 where I've owned and operated an industrial business for 20 years. My home is in nearby Steilacoom.

Andy Garrett purchased this house in 2006

Why Andy Garrett chose Puget Sound

I love the location of this home, with the daily cycle of foot ferry running from Port Orchard to the Bremerton terminal and the big ferry going to and from Seattle. Open the window or step outside and you'll hear the gulls and see the flocks of ducks on the water. You will often hear sea lions from across the bay and always the scent of salt water.

What makes this house unique

I enjoy bicycling and this house sits right on one of my favorite routes. Indeed, it is a popular year-round biking destination because of local waterfront and rural paved roads. The location makes the house a great hub for day trips. The local foot ferry is about a mile and a half away and it travels all day Monday through Saturday to the Bremerton ferry terminal. There's live music on weekends just a couple blocks away at the Blue Goose and good restaurants within walking distance.

Nice place and nice location, with a couple of things to beware of.

  • 3 of 5

We had a good time staying here while spending time with family during our granddaughters wedding festivities. Took the ferry into Seattle to meet our niece at Pike place Market, for lunch.

The accommodations were clean and tidy and had all the amenities we expected.

We were there July 5th - 12th and 5 out of the 7 days it was over 80 degrees in the house (no air conditioning). Andy was nice enough to bring over additional fans, which helped a bit with the heat, but made it difficult for conversation or TV.

Something that should be mentioned is the fact that the climb from street level to the house is a bit difficult for seniors. Winding and irregular height steps make navigating a bit of a challenge. Do to this we will not be returning.

Perfect size and location

  • 5 of 5

We chose this home due to the size, laundry facilities and proximity to the Navy base. We were visiting my son who is in the Navy. We originally had booked for later in the year but needed to reschedule due to the Navy's schedule. The owner was super understanding and we were able to change our plans. The house is exactly as pictured. The size was perfect for our family of 4. There were plenty of linens, pots, pans and other kitchen necessities. The house was close enough to foot ferries to Bremerton to catch the ferry to Seattle. There is a Walmart and Albertsons nearby for shopping. I love outdoor space, which was limited, but we just brought out the kitchen chairs to the porch and had our morning coffee and evening wine. There was also enough off street parking for our rental and my son's truck. I would definitely stay here again while visiting my son.

Sweet vintage home with stunning views!

  • 4 of 5

Andy was absolutely wonderful and his Bay View home is so sweet....However, the reason we can't give it 5 stars is that the beds were hard as ROCKS! AND they rustled like straw ticks! Investing in more comfortable mattresses would go a long way in whether we'd return. The rest of the home is sweet and pleasant. The steps getting UP to the house are stone and uneven, so keep that in mind when planning! My husband has a bad knee and found them a bit difficult. Other than that, Andy was very available and the view is fascinating!

Great location, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming, older house and it was perfect for my family. There was plenty of room for the four of us, the living room was quite cozy and the kitchen was stocked with all necessary utensils for cooking. The house is also walking distance from downtown with an amazing view of puget sound. My twin 6 year old girls really enjoyed exploring the small yard as well. We will be back!

Okay but maybe not what I expected

  • 3 of 5

Andy's house is in an okay location, the views are amazing but feels a little sketchy for leaving your car on the road. The house itself is okay but old and creaky. If you are looking for an older home on the bay with pretty minimal amenities then this should work for you. A little over priced compared to most I have stayed at in relation to what you get for the money. As far as cleanliness most of the house was good the bathroom not so much with hair still on the shower walls. 😕

I probably would stay away from this one if I go back.
