About Michael Kjelgaard
I own an engineering consulting firm and I am not a real estate professional. I have a wife of 20 plus years, two teenagers and a yellow lab that loves to dive for rocks on the lake bottom. We have lived in New England all of our lives and don't think we would ever leave the area. We live in Easton MA, only 45 minutes away from the cottage. So we are available to respond quickly if any problems arise during your stay.
Michael Kjelgaard purchased this House in 2011
Why Michael Kjelgaard chose Plymouth
We bought the house in 2011 and our family has enjoyed it immensely. Its the perfect location for a vacation home given that we live 45 minutes away and can get there whenever we want to. We decided to offer it up for rent seasonally because the kids are getting older and have other responsibilities and social lives that sometimes don't always allow for multiple long stays at the cottage. So instead of letting it just sit there when we are not there, why not offer it up to others to enjoy?

Early Summer getaway.
Great location away from it all.
Very private. A little rustic, but a lot of charm. Patio area and fire pit were great.
We may have been first renters of season, so full dock wasn’t in, so probably not suitable to have power boat until in.
Great Lake views from patio.
Sonus sound system was a big hit.
Downstairs bar and sitting area great for hanging out.
The home was well appointed and exactly as advertised. We were very pleased.
Our Happy Place
This was our 4th stay at Trails End Cove, this year for 2 weeks.
The new chairs around the fire pit and beach area . . . along with an adorable table and chairs for our 3 grandchildren were great additions.
Michael is a pleasure to deal with and we love the wine and chips upon arrival!
Trails End Cove is a great place to get away, swim, kayak and relax. A very peaceful place :)
Till next time - Jim & Joanne
Thanks again Jim & Joanne. See you next year!!
Magical Family Vacation on Great Herring Pond
We cannot say enough about our Homeaway experience with Michael and this lakefront vacation home. It was absolutely perfect for our family getaway. We felt like we had our own private retreat with all the charm & natural beauty of Maine without the long drive and with all the comforts of home. We had a wide range of ages ranging from 2 to 62 and there was something for everyone. Kayaking & swimming in the pristine, clear water, cooking out at night, toasting marshmallows & telling ghost stories around the fire pit, and then retreating to the comfy family room to watch the finale of Game of Thrones on the big screen TV! We were also able to enjoy other activities close by; a delicious lobster dinner, a bike ride to the canal and a walk on a Cape Cod beach only 15 minutes away! Michael was only a text away when we had a question and he was so responsive. We will definitely be back to make more wonderful memories. I highly recommend this property!
We felt like we were far from home, in reality it was a 40 minute drive. Very private, relaxing and beautiful! The house had everything we needed and there was plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 teenage boys...and the family dog! We would definitely recommend this rental to anyone looking for home away from home!
We very much enjoyed our stay. House and lake are beautiful. Close to a lot of places for day trips. Cold and rainy at the end of the week so we didn't get to take advantage of the outdoor area. Would definitely recommend.
The location is absolutely ideal for so many reasons. If you have been to Cape Cod before, you are likely familiar with the infamous bridge traffic (sometimes for miles), or even the bumper to bumper traffic just driving around the Cape. Our house is located very near the canal on the mainland side of the bridges ('off Cape') and you can get to the house through back roads (we will provide specific directions), completely avoiding bridge traffic. In addition, living on this side of the bridge allows you to plan your trips 'on Cape' strategically to avoid the busiest of times.
The house is just about half way between Boston and Provincetown (the very tip of the Cape), realistically opening up many options to explore historic Massachusetts in day trips if desired. Boston is an hour drive North (with no traffic). Venturing into Boston is best done on a weekend or after 10am on weekdays to avoid rush hour.
Down town Plymouth Harbor is only 20 minutes away, offering many sites and activities including whale watching, deep sea fishing, (Captain Johns), Plimouth Plantation, Plymouth Rock, The Mayflower and all kinds of water front restaurants and antique shops.
If you want to go to the beach without crossing the bridge there are a handful of awesome beaches with plenty of parking to check out just minutes away (Scusset, Onset, Sagamore). For the kids – the Water Wiz water park (featured in the recent movie Way Way Back) is also minutes away.
Scusset beach is located at the canal inlet, has plenty of parking and is a great beach to spend the day. It also offers great salt water fishing from the jetty and a fishing pier located in the canal. Scusset is about a 5-10 minute drive. You can also get there on bike traveling along the scenic Cape Cod Canal bike & walking trail (about a 30 minute bike ride to Scusset starting from the house). The bike ride from the house is for adults only as the ride requires about a mile along the main road and a mountain style bike to navigate some unpaved and steep hills near the house. If you have small children and/or road style bikes its best to park at the canal public parking area and start the ride there. Our shed has plenty of space to store your bikes.
Of course going 'On Cape' opens you up to some of the best beaches in the world. You can even ferry out of Woods Hole (and take your car with you) to explore Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket for a day or more. Don't miss the free Oceanographic Museum at Wood's Hole; where you can picnic outdoors while enjoying the ship scenery, live seal shows and even a hands-on area.
Other possibilities include world class golf courses, wineries and all kinds of restaurants & dining experiences both on and off the Cape. Of course spending quality down time at the lake house is a must - you may even find that after showing up to the cottage and settling in, that you don't want to leave!
