First, PLEASE save yourself ridiculous new fees by contacting us directly. VRBO just initiated big fees by constantly urging you to book through thier website....under the misleading suggestion that you are better protected!! Well, we owners would like to talk to you / vet you as much as you should want to talk with us and vet us! We have been renting this wonderful family cabin for the last three summers. Every renter has received their full deposit immediately. That is because we have spoken with them prior to their renting. We have screened them and they have screened us! ANYWAY....on to the description.... This landmark vintage cabin sleeps 12 comfortably in 5 bedrooms with 3 & 1/2 bath . This number includes a sleeping loft for 4 children or young adults ( no bathroom in the loft area.) Our family has owned this for nearly 50 years. Of the several hundred homes on the popular Whitefish Chain, there is only one other cabin that is in such original, untouched condition! Even the furniture is from the 1920s and 1930s. This cabin was the only cabin to be featured three times in the prestigious Crosslake Historical Log Home Tour since the tour began 20 years ago. Antiques, log chandeliers, and bear rugs hanging from loft railings add to its warmth and charm. Nooks, crannies and cozy corners abound! Huge screened in porch (with antique birch bark canoe perched over the beams) ,... The porch comfortably seats 12 for dining or schmoozing. A 12 ft x 60 ft long, huge deck runs the entire length of the cabin and also seats another 12 - 14 around a log table and gas fire pit. Huge sweeping lawn down to the lake and panoramic views from the bluff overlooking the islands across the water. State land adjoins this property so it feels as if you are miles from civilization but the town of Crosslake is only 4 miles away and you can walk 3/4 to the charming local pub! Please call me for additional pics and info. Nancy 973 670 1952
Grew up in St. Paul; my husband was born and raised on the east coast. We have retired here to the family cabin where I have been spending summers all my life. My folks bought this cabin almost 50 years ago! We spend winters in Palm Springs, play lots of golf and travel. We are blessed. I have no children so we are truely happy to be able to share this wonderful cabin with other families. The last three summers has been the first time we have EVER rented it and we were delighted with ALL the families who stayed here! Wonderful, wonderful families who loved it and took such good care of it!...and EVERY family over the last three summers has gotten there entire deposit returned immediately !....and, most are planning a return visit in summer of 2017 so I sincerely believe we will book up early.
Nancy Thayer Haggerty purchased this cabin in 1965
This cabin has become a landmark on the Whitefish chain of lakes as it is one of the few remaining original, untouched log cabins. Most everyone knows of it and boats seem to slow down in admiration as they pass by! It has been featured three different years at the Crosslake Historical Log Home Tour which was begun by my mother and our current neighbors who also have a wonderfully special home. 90% of the furnishings and decor are original and of the 1880 - 1930 antique period (minus, of course, modern necessities ie; beds, appliances and TVs). A wonderous step back in time! We think you'll just marvel as you will feel like you are back in the 1920s / 30s of 'Up North'...but still, the cabin is very comfortable and livable .
This cabin and the grounds are unusually peaceful, private and serene. My husband and I were married on the lawn overlooking the lake 25 years ago. Could be used for a family wedding !? An amazing deck runs the entire length of the cabin and has French doors leading to it from almost every room in the cabin. The huge screened in porch makes for great entertaining and just hanging , talking eating, laughing and drinking late into the night!
this 1932 cabin is about as untouched and original as it gets. Like staying in the best cabin at Yellowstone Lodge. Amazing views, great lakeshore, wonderfully charming, lots of room inside and out. So much better than the pictures! A MUST if you like to go back in history but have all the modern amenities of....immaculate, fully equipped with everything you could need and the owners were delightful.
If you are among those of us who are nostalgic for a true week at a cabin in northern Minnesota, do not miss this glorious venue. From the beautiful pines, to the lake view, to the constant loon calls, the environment surrounding this log cabin is wonderful. The cabin itself feels like a museum dedicated to the days when cabins were truly cabins made out of logs and wooden planks and not mini suburban mansions that happen to be built on lakeshore. Yet, the home has been modernized just enough that you will find updated bathrooms, modern appliances, and state of the art television and internet connectivity. In the midst of this lovingly kept cabin we spent a glorious week reading on the porch, swimming, renting jet skis from The Bait Box, roasting marshmallows and listening to beautiful violin music on the deck provided by our family of musicians.
We really hit the jackpot with this log cabin vacation rental!!! The dwelling is clean, charming and cozy and the owners are so caring and friendly and wanted out experience to be the best ever!
Our grand-kids loved the huge front yard, boating from lake to lake, finding a new sandbar each day and tubing to their hearts content. We enjoyed all our meals on the huge screened-in porch and all three generations together watched the Olympics nightly on their big screen television.
We'll be back next year!
This cabin was amazing! The water is clear and the kids spent their days swimming off the dock. The cabin is beautiful inside and it feels like you are staying at a resort. The owners are super friendly and want you to enjoy your stay. We had a party of 12 and we all comfortable fit in the cabin with space to spare. Hoping to stay here again next summer. Thanks for a wonderful week in Crosslake.
We couldn't have asked for a better week up north. The cabin has been beautifully updated without losing any of its authentic charm and the location is top-notch. We ate every meal on the screened-in porch and enjoyed fires both in the pit and on the deck with the gas flame. The views were stunning and the lake was wonderful for boating and tubing. The small children were able to swim and splash along the shoreline, and there is a great sandbar nearby perfect for hanging out and enjoying the water. The fishing off the dock was also a huge hit with the kids.
The owners are wonderful and accommodating and the cabin was fully stocked. There is nothing we would change about our stay and we can't wait to return next summer!
Even better than the pics! ...fully equipped...great views, immaculate and SO charming! Can't recommend it more highly....and such privacy
What a perfect home and location for our family summer vacation. It surpassed my expectations and we will definitely try to come back here again. We have 3 children and I can't describe the excitemnt they had in exploring this beautiful log cabin home with its nooks and crannies for hide and go seek. It was beautifully kept and was the perfect get-a-way. Situated right on the lake with a dock that was perfect for our boat and wave runner. I spent lots of time on the swing overlooking the lake and the goregous deck off the back of the house. We roasted marsmallows in the fire pit and played in the large back yard. We saw lots of deer and enjoyed walks in the area. It was a quick ride to town where there were several great restuarants. The owners of this beautiful log cabin are the best and made us feel like family staying in their home. The home is decorated with wonderful antiques and neat things to see. We enjoyed perfect weather, but there are TVS and DVD players if you need a break from the sun or have a rainy day. We enjoyed building puzzles (there are a couple there) and playing a bunch of games. We stayed for a week and I didn't want to leave. I definitely recommend it.
