Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Le Cannet - The Bonnard Museum Villa

3 Bed - 3 Bath - Sleeps up to 8 - WIFI / AC - New PALM EXPRESS Line to Beaches

This is indeed a true hidden gem in Cannes and within the lovely old town of Le Cannet. This 17th Centuary village house has been totally refurbished within the last couple of years and whilst still retaining a charming provencal feel - the property has 3 well designed modern bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. The villa is presented over 3 levels with sea views from the 2 upper level bedrooms. The 3rd bedroom is accessed from the garden terrace . All bedrooms can be made up either with king or 2 single beds. The drawing room has a large italian sofa bed with lovely views over the garden. The dining with large dining table has convenient direct access kitchen. The provencal garden - complete with plenty of lavender has a terrace area and also an upper level terrace from the kitchen. The house has all up to date amenities to include air conditioning, wifi, satalite tv, plasma tv and HD recorder. There are plenty of local shops close to this villa as well as a convenient taxi service directly to the Croisette. Do note also that the brand new Palm Express Line runs directly to the beach. Quiet neighbourhood!

A little History of this lovely property:

The Uultimate French xxperience - charming 17th century Provençal house which has been in the owner's family for over 3 centuries and has been added to in the course of centuries. It is named Le Cros (the Hollow) and gave its name to the neighbourhood. Located at the top of Cannes's well-known Boulevard Carnot which directly connects the Palais des Festivals to Le Cannet. The rue du Cros is off the rue Victorien Sardou in which Le Cannet's cinema is located.

The new Palm Express Line is now available to take our guests to the beach as well as plentiful bus services

There is also a taxi rank at the nearby town hall - travel to the Croisette in less than 10 minutes.

It is very easy to park close to this villa either in the street or in the free communal car-park.

The villa has a sea-view from the upper level bedrooms and is definitely a much better and cheaper experience than staying at a hotel.

You can buy anything you need from the local small shops on Boulevard Carnot. Pharmacy, Post-office and Library as well as the excellent Baker and Butcher are just 1 minute away. How about taking home some delicious gourmet food from these local shops and relax in the garden if you do not feel like going out to expensive restaurants. Try the delicious local produce - the breads, cheese and a bottle of wine is often a much better way of enjoying French cuisine and Provençal delicacies than dining out. Needless to say that the villa and its quaint garden offer you much more space than a hotel room. What is more you can wander peacefully and safely in the village's main street, pedestrianised rue Saint-Sauveur with all its Arts and Crafts shops, its fine art galleries and numerous cosy restaurants without forgetting the Place Bellevue where from you will admire the liners moored in the Bay of Cannes.

You will be able to walk to the other villa for 8/9 by the same owner, please ask for details.

More Chic: The villa has entirely been refurbished and is equipped with all modern amenities while retaining its 17th century charm with its 'tommettes' (red tiles) ; its old stone fountain dated 1867; its ancient stone 'lavoir' (wash-place); its old wine press where the owner's father, grand-father and great-grandfather used to 'tread' the grapes from their land barefoot and finally its rounded staircase 'confiturier' (marmalade cabinet) to keep the orange preserves they had made from the bitter 'Bigarade' oranges that grew (and still grow) in the garden. The garden is planted with jasmine, orange, tangerine- and olive-trees (that make a natural parasol over the elegant garden furniture) not to mention a Muscat grape vine that yields delicious grapes.

About Janet Byrne

I am Janet Byrne and I am Irish. My company is called Top Class Holiday Rentals and I am in business since 2008 following a successful career with one of the large banks in Ireland. I rent holiday properties in France, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. I will only rent a property that I am happy to stay in myself

Why Janet Byrne chose Cannes - Grasse - Antibes

I loved this property as soon as I arrived to the hall door. It is located within the Old Town of Le Cannet which is so pretty and is full of little shops, excellent restaurants, great cafes and is still within a short bus ride to the Croissette. I would have no problem booking a holiday for us here.

What makes this villa unique

This house has been re-furbished in recent times to a very high standard and still retains the provencal feel. There are 3 spacious bedrooms, each having its own really well appointed bathroom. The principal bedroom has a lovely balcony with lovely views over the gardens. I love the fact that this house has its own terrace and terrific well tended garden.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I stayed from Friday to Monday and I couldn't believe I had to leave this little paradise. It was so good to come back to le Cannet after La Croisette's madness.

Really lovely property, quiet and very sunny. The roof of grapes in the garden made me feel like in a true fairytale.

Amazing taste, loved the pink/ocre walls, very good beds and showers- very well restored.

I had a beautiful experience staying there and I would recommend this property to everyone.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 chose to stay in Le Cannet while doing business in Grasse. The hustle and bustle of Cannes was fun, but it was great to retreat to the quiet streets of Le Cannet each day. The neighborhood is perfectly French - butcher shops, pastry shops, grocery, a local cinema, and some great restaurants and stores all within just a few blocks.

Patrice (the manager) arrived on time to our check-in/check-out, and he was a pleasure to meet. There's also a great list of recommended restaurants and local guide provided by the owner to ensure you can make the most of your stay.

Lastly - the garden! It's such a big plus with this house. Perfect to BBQ in the evening and soak in the sun and fragrant smells of this region.

I give this villa a 10 out of 10 in terms of quaint, convenient, and authentic French lifestyle

A tranquil place on the Cote d'Azur

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with friends for three weeks in July and August 2012 and everyone was delighted with the house, its garden and its location. Indeed the first thing everyone said was “The photographs don’t do this justice”. When we had any queries, both Janet in Ireland and Patrice in Cannes were more than helpful and everything they told us was surpassed by the reality when we arrived.

The house contained all that anyone might need for a short or long stay and all the rooms were light and airy, with magnificent Provencal shutters and air conditioning throughout. The standard of accommodation was very high indeed. The garden was professionally tended and the terrace in the first floor offered peace and privacy.

Le Cannet itself is a peaceful village with everything we needed in the way of beautiful French provisions, from bakers to butchers to fishmongers and more besides, including a delightful cinema at the bottom of the street. There are plentiful, varied restaurants within walking distance, several in a magnificent ‘place’ with views over the bay of Cannes; and an artists’ quarter as well!

The location also brought advantages in being away from the bustle of Cannes but within easy reach by frequent local busses, direct to the rail station, and reliable taxis. In addition the location also proved to be eminently suitable for exploring the Cote D’Azur avoiding Cannes town and its traffic.

Relaxing, peaceful, yet easily accessible, we would recommend this property without hesitation to friends.

Car: not necessary

Le Cannet, also called France's Madeira, is an old historical town between Mougins and Vallauris, on the hill overlooking the bay of Cannes - it has much to offer in terms of artistic life and has been the haunt of famous painters, particularly Pierre Bonnard who is buried there (the new Bonnard museum was inaugurated there on 27 June 2011). It is for tourists who want to experience the genuine french life, the historical sites and get a taste of the local folklore in addition to visiting the French Riviera.

The owner of the villa is a descendant of the 140 Ligurian families who, in the 15th century, came from Italy at the invitation of the monks of the Iles de Lerins (off Cannes) to cultivate their orange-trees. The genealogical tree on Place Bellevue still bears testimony to the adventure of the foundation of the village.

It is also important to note that this property is served by the new PALM EXPRESS LINE - 13 mns to Palais on the Croisette. This line also includes the train station!

Notes:
Review July 2011: We stayed in this lovely, old villa last week for a family holiday and it was perfect for us. The description and photos are entirely accurate but cannot convey the delightful feeling of seclusion and peace the villa offers. The large dining table was great for big family meals and the garden, sitting under the olive tree, was ideal for warm summer evenings. The property was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The manager was a delight, making us feel very welcome and offering help, if needed, through the week. The newly opened Bonnard Museum, less than 5 mins walk away, is highly recommended. 5 floors of fully air-conditioned, well presented material with an interesting local history. A car is really not necessary to stay in this house. Parking can be a problem and the nearby bus & taxi services into Cannes are excellent. So long as they could negotiate the lovely spiral staircase, I would unreservedly recommend this house to friends, it is a beautiful place to stay
