This beautiful 5 bedroom lodge home overlooks the most beautiful lake in Virginia and Tennessee (South Holston Lake) surrounded by the majestic Holston Mountains where you will find Fishing, Swimming, Skiing, Boating as well as Biking Trails, Hiking, Antiquing, Festivals, Wine Tours, and Sight Seeing, Leaf changing... such a beautiful part of the country... often referred to as 'God's country.' The cedar lodge has beautiful stonework throughout and 2 wonderful stone fireplaces with gas logs that turn on with a flip of a switch. The living room is rustic with high A-frame wood ceilings. Large picture windows offer fantastic views throughout. The five bedrooms are private and easily accessible to the bathrooms. The most delightful room is the glass sun-room with a panoramic view of the lake. You will find the kitchen fully furnished with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. The deck wraps around the front of the house with a large gas grill, jetted hot tub and seating for four. Imagine yourself sitting in the hot tub at night under the stars looking out at the lake. It is NICE... The den is spacious with a view of the lake and a large stone fireplace to enhance your evenings. We offer internet and cable and a library of wonderful DVD's (many for children). Outside your door is the lake with our own private small dock for boats, playthings or a place to just sit and fish with your son or daughter. Hop in your own boat and you will find a marina just down the way that has a full outdoor restaurant and live music all through the summer. Boats may be rented at the marinas as well. There is the beautiful South Holston dam on the lake and Cliff Island where you will find kids and adults jumping from a stone ledge into the water. The sunsets are spectacular but the turning leaves in the Fall are rich and colorful as well and then there is the winter snow as you soak in the hot tub overlooking a frozen lake that is indescribable. Finally, spring arrives with the purple martins returning to our bird hotel and all around turns green as life blooms everywhere. The activities and opportunities around this area are innumerable and the beauty does not fade with the summer... it lasts for 4 seasons. Come and stay and enjoy the festivals, the live theaters, the wonderful and delicious eateries. You are in God's country and it just doesn't get better than that. We would love to share our good blessings with those who are led our way as our honored guests.

Great Lake House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Doug-Out! The house is extremely well equipped and roomy. The beds are comfy and there are a lot of places to sit and enjoy the view. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the laundry is conveniently located off the kitchen. The sliding board on the dock was a huge hit as was the boat. South Holston Lake is beautiful and the views from the lake are spectacular. We rode the Virginia Creeper Trail which is only about a half hour away in Damascus. Highly recommend the Trail!! We made use of the camp fire pit and it was nice to have wood available at no charge. The hot tub was another bonus for the kids. Overall, our trip to the Doug-Out was wonderful and we made lots of great memories. We had three generations - ages 6-79, on our trip and the house was very accommodating. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!!

Beautiful view from the sunroom! Needs a deep cleaning and some repairs

  • 3 of 5

I must say that the sunroom is incredibly nice and the lakefront is a plus. However, be warned that the walk down to the dock is very steep and not very accessible to elderly folks. We also had an issue with the upstairs toilet leaking onto the floor during our stay. I did notify Bethany, but she did not offer to have anyone look at it. So we just put a floor mat around it to contain so it wouldn’t puddle in the floor. The kitchen is stocked decently, but extremely unorganized. The grill was very dirty and they only had a small 8” grill brush that was worn out and it was impossible to use without burning yourself. The grill also ran out of gas and there was no instructions on where to find a full bottle. I thought to look in the garage and thankfully there was one in there. Bethany did respond to texts, but she averaged 2-3 hours to respond. That was a bit excessive in my mind. Sports TV channels are slim as well.

Owner's Response: I am saddened to hear you didn't have anything but an exceptional time! We do apologize for anything that may have hindered your experience. I must have misunderstood our conversation about the toilet leaking as I was under the impression you would let me know if I needed to send someone out there, and I would have been happy to do so as we have someone on call 24/7. We do have lots of grill sets located in the kitchen, but have since made it much easier to find appropriate tools near the grill, thank you for your suggestion. As far as the cable channels, we have both an extended basic package that includes most sporting events as well as the upgraded sports package for more specialty events- college/pro games, etc. You called and requested us to pay for a Pay-Per-View event which unfortunately we do not include in our rentals. Guests are welcome to purchase those events at their cost. I make every effort to be available 24/7 for our guests, and am happy to do so. I made every attempt to answer each one of your 12+ requests as soon as possible over the weekend. For most needs, we have a handbook with tips about the house and locations of area attractions/amenities. We want our guests to enjoy their time and have everything they need at their disposal; however, I am certainly happy to assist and help in any way.

Perfect home away from home on Holston Lake!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our parents’ 45th Anniversary over Father’s Day Weekend. Trips into Abingdon and biking the Creeper Trail were wonderful! Our favorite part was spending time at the house and lake - what a gorgeous view in SWVA❤️! Thanks for sharing your home! Can’t wait to return!

This is one of the most beautiful areas in the country with 4 inviting seasons - Summer, Winter Spring and Fall. None too harsh and each with their own beauty and enchantments. We are located on the South Holston Lake which is one of the cleaniest and most spacious lakes in the South full of recreation, fishing, marina's, boating, skiing, music and much more. 15 minutes away is historic Abingdon for those interested in antiquing, live theatre at the famous Barter Theatre & where many actors and actresses have gotten their start like Ernest Borgnine. Also home of the Martha Washington Inn, where even the Presidents have stayed. Carriage rides and outside wedding are commonplace. Host of the Highlands Art festival and home of the VIrginia Arts Center. 25 minutes to the south is Bristol VA/TN, home of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. It was here that the Johnny Cash, the June Carter family and Tennessee Ernie Ford called their home. The first recorded country music was made in Bristol. The grammy award winning Mumford & Son band from England selected Bristol to be one of the five cities in the USA to visit during their music tour 'Gentleman of the Road'. Bristol, also, is the home of the Bristol Motor Speedway which is the fastest 'half- mile' in the country. Downtown Bristol features the Paramount Theatre, Art D'Vine tours, Border Bash Evenings, the incredible Rhythm & Roots Festival featuring 100's of bands from Bluegrass to Gospel and everything in-between. Bristol downtown is known for its arts & music and antiques...Finally the famous Bristol Train Station lives on with our infamous sign welcoming all her visitors - 'Bristol a Good Place to Live'
