The Lions Gate is a stunning craftsman style mansion that captures classic elegance and modern magnificence under one historic roof. Built in 1911 and formerly known as The Maggie Littlefield Historic House, it was exquisitely restored to maintain its structural integrity while showcasing the local contemporary artistry of tile, woodworking and design. “Stunningly beautiful, yet comfortable,” “elegant and welcoming,” “warm and sophisticated” are words frequently used by guests to describe the interior of The Lions Gate. It is rare to have such a splendid historic home available to share with others in an engaging and personal environment. Each of our spacious and elegant suites has its own private bath. Three of the suites have gas fireplaces and all come with a sitting area or comfortable reading chair. Amenities include: shampoo/conditioner, soap, hairdryers, ironing board, luxurious towels and linens. The covered outdoor living space and large grass courtyard provide an ideal environment for relaxation.
Lions Gate is a perfect place for large families or to bring extended families and friends together in one warm inviting space to spend time together, enjoying each others company and exploring more of what the Willamette Valley and surrounding areas have to offer. You will have full access and use of the large, gourmet kitchen and entire two main floors of the house. Enjoy relaxing by the fireplace, reminiscing about times together and making new memories. Play board games or watch Football in the parlor. Take full advantage of the large formal dining room to gather as friends and family and enjoy the bounty of the Willamette Valley. Lions Gate is the perfect place to call home while exploring the 100 plus area wineries. But if day long exploration is your pleasure visitors will find adventure at the Oregon Coast, Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood a short hour and a half scenic drive away.
After a day of wine tasting and country side adventure guests can take a short walk to one of Oregon’s top restaurants, The Painted Lady, Recipe, Subterra and new in town, Ruddick Wood. For those really wanting a feel for area and a sense of place, Historic Downtown Newberg is becoming an art centric community with The Chehalem Cultural Center in its hub, a lively First Friday Art Walk, and Art Elements Gallery.
We enjoyed tremendously the house. Everything was as advertised, or better. Would highly recommend it!
Loni was so helpful and accommodating as we planned the 70th birthday surprise party. She even came by with flowers and some bubbly! The property was lovely and the kitchen was perfectly appointed which was important for party preparations. It was so quiet and yet we were close to everything. Beds and baths were comfortable and spotless. Had we been in town during cooler weather we would have enjoyed the relaxing back yard but instead really appreciated the air conditioned house most of the time. This is a perfect place for a party or family/friends gathering. It feels like home away from home and Loni was the absolute best.
The house is at a great location for Oregon wine country tasting and also walking distance to many of the top rated restaurants in town. The property is clean and well cared for. Loni is a great host and even provided a welcome gift for the group. Thanks for the great hospitality and hope to see you again when we visit Oregon
This was a big, wonderful place to stay with a great kitchen, breezy front porch, and quiet back patio. Three couples in our family enjoyed this well furnished and decorated house for 8 days as we explored Willamette valley. It was a fabulous place to spend time together - the house is walking distance from some wonderful restaurants, a fresh seafood market, and produce market. It's a short drive to hundreds of wineries, restaurants and walking trails. We are looking forward to returning in a year.
We arrived, and everything was as described. It is a beautiful Victorian house on a shady lane in Newburg. Front porch was breezy and nice. Kitchen was well appointed and easy to use. We would definitely stay here again.
Wineries are very close, and several good bars/ restaurants are within walking distance.
This place is truly a mansion that is as impressive inside as it is from the outside. I'd seen the stately residence with its beautiful entry and lovely grounds and thought it would be the perfect spot for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner and stay for some of the wedding party. It far exceeded my expectations. The residence is so well decorated with furniture and art that is true to its historic 1911 architecture, but quality, quality, quality throughout. The 4 bedrooms are beautifully decorated with themes of Winter, Fall, Summer and Spring all have private baths and the most comfortable beds and décor. The kitchen is fully equipped with service for many guests and there is even a basement so we had ample room for supplies. The side yard is really a gorgeous extra lot fully landscaped with a covered patio, BBQ and owner even gave us access to extra chairs and tables which made our event so easy. We had about 40 people to a catered dinner and we really enjoyed having Red Hills Market drive their wood-fired oven up to the side yard to cook Salmon & Pork onsite. Our guests said it was the most fun and comfortable, but elegant place they had ever stayed and the wedding party raved over the outdoor summer dining venue. I can't recommend this home more highly for a family reunion; couples who want to go wine tasting (as everything is so private) or for your wedding party and rehearsal dinner. The summer/fall is outstanding to spend time outdoors but I'd love to go back in the rainy season and enjoy the large comfortable living quarters too. Great location, wonderful owners to work with who made our stay feel very luxurious and memorable. This house is a stunner and thank you for allowing us to enjoy your wonderful home.
