The spacious gite - “Havre Paisible” (French for peaceful haven) - is a traditional farmhouse nestling serenely in an unspoilt village in the heart of rural Burgundy which has been completely modernized and exceptionally well appointed to ensure a relaxing holiday. A comfortable 5 hour-drive from Calais, Havre Paisible affords the opportunity to visit many parts of this varied region.
Relax by your private swimming pool and sip local Burgundy or Chablis wines on your terrace. Take a stroll in the fields which surround the village. Dine outside on your terrace and experience the starlit skies, savor total tranquility and listen to the sound of silence. Drive to a local cave for a degustation followed by lunch at one of the local restaurants. Catch up with your “other” world via the free Internet access. Or simply soak up the sun, read a book and do nothing for a change!
Bonjour, I am Jackie Rollo, an American and have been blessed to call Gigny my home for over 12 years. I am aware of all the comings and goings and am happy to share my local knowledge of the best affordable restaurants, local walks, history of the surrounding area, introduce you to our local cremant maker.
Even though I sometimes live on the property, I am always conscious that this is your holiday and I am happy to give you your privacy or share the many wonderful stories that go along with living in a foreign country.
If you want to 'experience' France rather than just visit, please contact me if you would like to add cooking demonstrations, have meals prepared for you, need a babysitter, or recommend local tours, or you just want to ask questions about the region while planning your trip. I delight in helping my guests get the most out of their visit to this little piece of heaven, so do not hesitate to ask!
I hope to be able to welcome you to Havre Paisible! The nicest comment I hear most often is we came as strangers and are leaving as friends.
Jackie Rollo purchased this farmhouse in 2003
Gigny really has it all - located 5 minutes by car to the local village of Laigne which consists of a tabac, a pharmacie, a movie theatre, a wonderful grocery store, an antique store, a florist, 2 boulangeries and an electric store with all kinds of gadgets. Within 20 minutes east or west, you will find larger towns with more amenities. When feeling more adventurous, there are plenty of beautiful villages with fresh air markets a plenty, museums and wonderful restaurants. Enjoy the tranquility where you can restore your soul, but find everything you need just a stone throws away. It is the very best of both worlds.
I live on the property which allows you to get to know the local area without stress and experimentation. Quite a few of my guests started coming for 1 week and then started booking for 2 weeks - they say the first week is for getting settled and the 2nd is just for 'absorbing the beauty and tranquility of Havre Paisible'.
Thank you for an enjoyable week. We have sampled the good food and hospitality of many towns in the area. Your friendly smile and good nature are hard to beat.
We stayed 1 week in Jackie's lovely house, 2 kids and Grand Parents as well. We enjoyed the silence and the most wonderful starry nights as there is not much light in the village. Jackie is a great host and very helpful, friendly and warm. Thank you Jackie :)
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this lovely, peaceful gite. It provided a 'home from home' in the middle of the beautiful French countryside. The surroundings were delightful, we spent many happy hours relaxing and swimming in the pool. The gite was beautifully appointed and comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay a holiday to remember. Jackie was a truly welcoming host and was discreetly available to help with any enquiries. I would fullly recommend this lovely place to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in a beautiful location. Thanks for a great holiday; we really needed it!
Havre Paisible is a pretty well equipped and comfortable cottage with a lovely enclosed garden and pool. Jackie Rollo who lives in on site was very discreet, but made us feel very welcome and was on hand to help and advise on local attractions, including ringing up a local hotel on behalf of a lost English family at 11:30 at night who we met whilst star gazing and meteor spotting outside the village. The local Spar minimarket 5 minutes away by car provides most essentials but we recommend a visit to Chablis on Sunday morning for the bustling market and wine tasting. There are plenty of places of interest to visit nearby. Although Gigny itself doesn't have a shop or cafe/restaurant, we can recommend Le Saint Pere in Tonnerre half an hour away.
An ideal property for two couples, giving us privacy and our own space. Jackie was there to greet us and immediately made us feel at home. She shared her wide knowledge of the area and was able to suggest some lovely places to eat. The garden and swimming pool was ideal for relaxing in at the end of a day exploring the beautiful local countryside. Early morning swims were so enjoyable watching the sun rise from behind the farmhouse, and then evening star watching from the patio at night. A great holiday destination.
We had the most wonderful 4 days family vacation in "Havre Paisible". We chose this cosy house as our base for exploring the Burgundy area and it was a perfect choice for us because of the location - 2.5 hours from Paris, because of the layout of the house which was very comfortable for 6 adults + a baby, and, last but not least, because of Jackie - the owner of the house. The house is well maintained, equipped and comfortable for a family or for a group of friends and the option that Jackie is offering for breakfast and dinner is an added bonus that enhanced our vacation a great deal. Jackie is a very nice and welcoming person and a great cook!, who made us feel that we don't want to leave
We have no hesitation in recommending this vacation house to any future guests!
THANK YOU JACKIE and we hope we will have the opportunity to visit you again in the near future.
Drorit and the rest of the C. family
We spend our first family holiday with our new baby here. It was wonderfully calm and listening to the church bells in bed was so relaxing. The house has a very cosy lounge room. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money. Jackie is a wonderful lady and goes out of her way to help.
My village - Gigny - is located between Chatillon-sur-Seine and Chablis in Northern Burgundy. Havre Paisible, the original farmhouse from the 1600s was remodeled with all modern conveniences including 3 bedrooms, 3 modern bathrooms, a washing machine and fully equipped French kitchen. The farmhouse is enclosed in a beautiful courtyard with a heated 5 x 9 meter swimming pool (open mid June – mid/lateSeptember depending on the weather). The garden is compact but designed specifically for relaxation and tranquility.
I have called Gigny home for over 12 years and live adjacent to the property. I have designed the gite so that you are assured of the same relaxing and private holiday even if I am present during your stay. I am here to help with any information you may need and to ensure that your stay is as perfect as possible.
Other Activities: wine tasting - which consists of Chablis, Champaign and Burgundy reds, boating on the Burgundy canal. Breakfast/Dinners can be prepared and served with advance reservation.
Golf: Beautiful 9 hole course located approximately 15 minutes from the house in Tanlay. Don't forget to visit the beautiful Chateau of Tanlay and Ancy-le-Franc and the Abbaye de Fonntenay - a Unesco site.
