Cartecay’s calling…come on up!
That's me on my favorite rock just upstream from our river deck. I love to spend hours there in summer, reading, sunning or sipping a refreshing beverage. This is our favorite cabin, where the children frolicked and fished in the river and where we set out for fun and adventure in the mountains. The walls are adorned with trophies from their dad's hunts and river outings. Our memories are warm and anticipations high when our thoughts turn to Cartecay Hideaway.
Jane Harrison purchased this cabin in 1994
There's no better place to enjoy the adventure in the Georgia mountains, small town charm, and solace of the river than this hideaway tucked in by the Cartecay.
The pine cabin has the warmth of wood from floor to ceiling and a sunny view of the Cartecay River from the den and screened in porch. A deck right on the river provides an al fresco dining table or a place to cast your line. The large mirrored Jacuzzi tub off the master bedroom offers a unique bathing experience. Hear and see the river run from the balcony off the master bedroom or the screened in porch beside a secondary bedroom downstairs. Head downstairs to a basement bar room reminiscent of a retro hunting lodge or bikers' retreat. Settle in the den on comfy sofas near the massive rock fireplace, sunny office nook, and fully equipped kitchen.
Really loved our stay at Cartecay Hideaway. Beautiful interior & had everything we needed & expected. We enjoyed sitting around the fireplace & also sitting outside & on screened porch enjoying the beautiful view of the river. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
The Carteway Cabin had an awesome setting with a lovely view of the river. It was very close to the river so you could enjoy listening to the water flowing over the rocks. There was also a deck that extended over the edge of the river providing a great place to sit and chill. My only minor complaint was there were some light bulbs in the kitchen area that were out, missing or did not work and quite a number of window screens were also missing. Otherwise I highly recommend to anyone that loves mountain and river settings.
We enjoyed our stay so much, we sat by the fire or the river then entire time. Everything was as it is pictured with the exception for an updated TV in the living room and even a crock pot at our request. If only there had been some fish in the river it would have been perfect. We were so blessed to spend time together, and even our Yorkie had a great time exploring. This cabin was exactly what we needed, and we will definitely stay again.
We had a nice time at the Cartecay Hideaway cabin. The sounds of the river flowing were very soothing and enjoyable. The cabin is nicely decorated and spacious. The upstairs master suite was nice, however, we were under the impression that it was a bedroom, not a loft. It would have been nice to know ahead of time with two twelve year olds, therefore, there was not a lot of privacy. The mattress was rather hard and could probably use a pillow top cover. The porch off the master suite was nice, listening to the river below. A screen door would be a nice addition in order to hear the river below without any bugs coming in. Also the master suite bathroom only had a tub, not a shower. We used the shower on the main floor bathroom. The gameroom is downstairs off the garage, but the boys didn't seem to mind. The boys had a wonderful time playing in the river and skipping rocks. The deck over the river was also very nice. There are two cabins across the river. The only time we had any issues was when one cabin had guests who were quite loud and using profanity during the afternoon and after midnight, playing music and talking rather loudly. I think the water tends to carry sounds more. We saw lots of beautiful waterfalls and overlooks at Ft. Mountain State Park. We went to an underground lake in Sweetwater, TN called The Lost Sea Adventure and went white water rafting with Rolling Thunder River Company in Bryson City, NC. Overall this was a very nice place.
we had a nice time easy to find good roads lots of stairs with this cabin lol
loved creek beside house ,river to rough for pups to play in ,plus the big snake that lives there lol
missed not having a tv in bedrooms we all thought there was tvs in bed rooms ,full kitchen lots of pots and pans, silverware ect... would recommend this cabin we also saw dear right in the driveway 2 times
nice quit cabin thanks for sharing with us and our pups . c.m.
The scenic Cartecay river flows through rural north Georgia east of the charming small town of Ellijay. The Cartecay draws kayakers and canoeists, anglers, and summer time 'tubers' to her mostly calm waters. En route to the cabin, guests often stop in Ellijay's 'Apple Alley' to buy fresh apples, peaches, and other seasonal produce. The Georgia Apple Festival, 2nd and 3rd weekends in October, is one of the southeast's largest craft fairs, attracting thousands of tourists both weekends. Fall tourists also enjoy scenic drives 'leaf looking' in the Georgia mountains. Our cabin is located about 20 minutes from the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain and is close to 3 game management areas where hunters seek deer, turkey, wild hogs and small game in season. Anglers fly fish just outside the door in the Cartecay river or take a scenic 15 minute ride to Noontootla Creek or 25 minute trip to the beautiful Toccoa River. Amicalola Falls State Park, about 20 minutes away, showcases one of the southeast's highest waterfalls in a well-maintained trail system. Numerous hiking and mountain bike trails give the outdoor person both challenging and easy perspectives on the Georgia mountains. Carter's Lake,
Fort Mountain State Park, and Lake Blue Ridge are all about a half-hour away. Unique restaurants, antique and craft shops, and traditional stores for all your vacation needs are just 15 minutes away in Ellijay. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad stops in Blue Ridge, a vibrant mountain town 20 minutes up Ga. 515.
