Blocks from Jackson Mississippi's Belhaven University, Milsaps College, Baptist Hospital, University Medical Center, St. Dominic's Hospital, and VA Medical Center. One block away from Sophia's Restaurant and Fairview Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Three levels. Top floor contains one bedroom with queen bed and one bath with a large Jacuzzi tub. A door in the bedroom opens to a small balcony on the outside. There is a tv in the bedroom as well as one mounted from ceiling in the bathroom for tub viewing. We have a rollaway twin cot upstairs if you would like your little one to sleep with you.
Main floor has a modern kitchen featuring granite countertops, travertine tile, and stainless appliances. Also on main floor is a spacious living room with large tv. Doors in the living room open to a small outside patio which is equipped with a barbque.
House has a basement which has a full bath and laundry room. Beware: the basement is for short people; if you are over 6' tall you might want to duck in the basement! There is a king bed in the basement.
Not wheelchair accessible. See photos: there is a really cool but narrow spiral staircase leading to bedroom on second floor.
Note: I charge a $75 cleaning fee. I charge you what it costs me to ensure a clean place for you to stay. Whether your stay is a night or a week, it costs us the same to do a top to bottom cleaning of the house. We do not skimp on cleaning because we know you wouldn't want to stay in a place which does; we appreciate your understanding!
The renovations to this property are very nice. We were there for the Freeze Weekend - so we were without hot water for a few hours, but nothing major. Our daughter, son in law and their 3 small children stayed here for our son's wedding weekend. It gave them their space near by. The updated kitchen and bathrooms were great. So convenient to the center of Jackson events that were on our weekend agenda. All was clean and ready for arrival. Prompt service.
This is the second time I have stayed here. Several of us from Alabama stay here for a conference in Jackson for teachers of gifted children. The carriage house is an actual old carriage house that has been nicely renovated into a three level house. The downstairs bedroom and bath have a low ceiling and my 5'10" frame is a bit too tall, but my shorter friends are fine there. The upstairs bedroom and bath has a tall ceiling and spacious rooms! It is in the Belhaven community near the moving and shaking Fondren area with lots of restaurants and shops. You will enjoy it!
I absolutely loved my stay here. The house is easy to get to, and I felt completely safe. I stayed for a week. The owners have done a fabulous remodel Of the kitchen and master bath. The kitchen is great to cook in, and is fully stocked. The master bath has a massive tub and it's a great shower as well. Both bedrooms seemed comfortable, although I stayed upstairs. This house is not suited for anyone who cannot handle stairs, as one bedroom is downstairs and the other is up a spiral staircase. If you don't mind that, it's a great place, with a giant, comfy couch and TVs throughout. I would definitely recommend you stay here.
Overall great experience. I was in town for a weekend with my wife, two young daughters, and her parents.
The property was centrally located, clean, and had a great kitchen. The pictures are accurate so I won't spend time reviewing the property other than to say it was exactly what the pictures say it is and it was clean.
The owner was extremely easy to work with and is part of what makes HomeAway great. He was easy to get in touch with and extremely nice.
- Our plane was landing prior to the stipulated check-in, he was perfectly fine letting us show up a little early.
- Similarly on the way out, our plane didn't leave until the evening and given there wasn't any one coming after us, he was fine letting us stay. For someone traveling with two young kids, it was a life saver to not have to be in limbo.
- He also went out of his way to provide a crib for our youngest daughter which is really just above and beyond. I asked the question in passing two days before we got there. He said they didn't have one. I told him not to worry about it and we would bring our own pack and play. Most people would just leave it at that (honestly I probably would). But I got a text a few hours later saying that a crib was on the way to the house and it would be there for us.
The house was convenient for hopping on and off I-55, and just across the street from Millsaps College, around the corner from Belhaven College and just a few blocks from Jackson State Universities football field. The house is also very close to several hospitals, so if you have anyone in for extended stay, this would be a great location for easy back and forth.
The kitchen has been newly renovated with really nice upgraded appliances. The house is cozy and plays well to it's historic past, with the kitchen and living room on the main level, nice bedroom and bath upstairs with a huge jacuzzi tub and a spacious bedroom with bath/shower and laundry facilities in the basement.
Attending a conference in town and this was a great location. We enjoyed sitting on the patio, going for a run through Belhaven and even walking down to the Fondren district for dinner one night!
Belhaven Neighborhood or 'The Greater Belhaven Area', often simply called 'Belhaven', is a neighborhood located in Jackson, Mississippi. Belhaven Neighborhood is named after Belhaven University, one of Jackson's oldest institutions of higher learning, the main campus of which is located on a forty-two acre plot of land within the neighborhood itself. Belhaven is a historic district and one of Jackson's oldest neighborhoods and cultural centers as well as home to many of the city's oldest houses and buildings. Many popular and successful locally owned businesses are located within Belhaven, including a number of restaurants, shops, stores, and a Bed and Breakfast inn. Belhaven is considered to be one of the most architecturally diverse neighborhoods in the United States, much of which can be seen through the Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Architectural Tour.
The area now known as Belhaven Neighborhood or 'The Greater Belhaven Area', then located to the north of Jackson city limits, remained largely unsettled until shortly after the American Civil War. Many Jackson residents, seeking refuge after the destruction and chaos wrought by Union soldiers during and after the Siege of Jackson, moved northward and began rebuilding their homes. In 1894, what is now Belhaven University was chartered by Dr. Lewis Fitzhugh as the 'Belhaven College for Young Ladies' in a house located Boyd Street in what is now Belhaven Heights. In 1910, the school burned down but was reopened in 1911 as 'Belhaven Collegiate and Industrial Institute' at its current location on Peachtree Street. In 1915, the school was renamed 'Belhaven College'. Subsequently, residents began referring to the area around the school as 'The Belhaven Neighborhood' or simply 'Belhaven'. Over the years the name has extended to include what became known as Belhaven Heights. Today, the use of the name 'Belhaven' can refer to 'The Greater Belhaven Area' (meaning both 'Belhaven' and 'Belhaven Heights', Belhaven University, or both.
Fortification Street, which runs East and West through Belhaven, is paved over what was once one of the last Confederate battle lines during the Siege of Jackson. Although most structures in Jackson were burned by Union soldiers employing a Scorched Earth Policy during and after the siege (under the direction of General Ulysses S. Grant), many of Belhaven's older structures remained untouched.
Next to Belhaven, the Fondren District is one of the funkiest, hippest places to enjoy great food, wonderful shopping, fashions, art, original pieces, vintage merchandise, fabulous homes, healthy living, and the coolest vibe around the Capitol city. You can find it all, in Fondren! Just click around our site - proudly advertising Fondren Mississippi businesses since 2004.
