Convenient location with a wonderful feeling of being home. My house belong to the Merrill's who were artists, gallery owners and school teachers in Taos in the 40's. I love there story!
I totally renovated my house and in doing so put in a courtyard that not many houses feature. I kept the original wood floors and incorporated some of the pieces that the original owners used. It also has such privacy with the walled front yard and coyote fencing. I love my neighborhood.
My mom and I and two pups stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house has a wonderful open floor plan with plenty of room to spread out. It's also within walking distance to the plaza--huge bonus. I loved the convenience of being able to let my dogs out and not having to watch over them as the house is completely fenced. There is also a grass area (not pictured) that is very large and the dogs loved this area. I was very impressed by the artistic decor throughout the house and loved the entire Southwest vibe. The master bathroom had an added bonus as the flooring was heated. My mom loved that! As other reviewers mentioned, there are several outdoor areas to choose from (the middle courtyard), the backyard/patio area and the front courtyard. We weren't sure if the front courtyard was part of our rental space or not so we didn't use. There is a tenant that lives next door , and when I say next door it is on the same property. It's about 10 feet from the house. I would say this was a downside to this rental. If you want complete privacy, this place is not for you. We did see the tenant Thanksgiving day doing yardwork most of the day which was strange but it wasn't a complete turnoff. She did however forget to close the gate after finishing up the yardwork and later on I had let my dogs out and one of them went right out of the gate. Thank god my dog didn't get very far. I will say, that was upsetting. She certainly knew there were two dogs staying at the main house.
As many other reviewers mentioned, not all windows have curtains or adequate curtains to make it feel like you have complete privacy. Not a big deal for my mom and I but probably would have been a big deal if I was with a signficant other. The kitchen area is where this is needed. I did place towels over the 2nd bathroom window since the curtains were somewhat see-through.
The biggest issue we had was the kitchen. I read other reviews saying the kitchen was substantially stocked. This was not the case. Kitchen utensils were limited, cookingware was limited and there was absolutely no tupperware. So, if you have leftovers, there is nothing to store food in. Spices were very limited and for that we had to stop at the store and buy garlic/onion powder & sea salt and ended up buying tupperware. I've stayed at many VRBO's and I will say this was the most minimalist of kitchens.
All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing time and really enjoyed our stay.
Property was as advertised. Comfortable living area with all amenities. Light bulb over kitchen sink was missing so that area was quite dark. We had to call owner for WI-Fi help and she responded immediately. Some kleenex and bar soap in the baths would have been nice. The third bedroom is a converted garage and is still used for storage. Not the best situation for sleeping. All in all, we four ladies enjoyed our stay.
This is as good as it gets on location. It is a short walk to several good restaurants and the Plaza is about a quarter mile. Just a good place to start from. The house is comfortable. Everything we needed to move in and get started was in place.
An interesting side story. One couple that stayed with us did not like the memory foam mattress at all and thought about sleeping on the couch. Another couple that visited us tried to find a name on the memory foam mattress as they claimed it was the best sleep they had in a long time. Just goes to show you cannot please everyone.
All who visited liked the place and the location.
Very cute house with plenty of room to spread out. Loved the location to the plaza. The place was clean, good beds, but pillows could be improved. The kitchen was well stocked, nice t.v., furnished nicely and great location. If the owner has the option, it would be great to replace the one twin bed with a double. Otherwise it was a perfect place for three individuals or two couples. Really enjoyed our time there.
Wonderful! From the minute you walk in the door a comfortable and relaxing home with everything you need for a fantastic vacation, so close you can walk to Taos Plaza! We are already planning next year's trip.
My family and I stayed here January 2016. The home had lots of space, perfectly appointed kitchen, walking distance to plaza, doggie door, 2 courtyards and 30 minutes to TSV. The home was comfortable and cozy. We will return.
Walking distance to the plaza with shopping, restaurants, bars, music, theater, museums, park.
