This a one acre private property with Casa Cowee as the main house and Temple Tree house high off the beach which is used for local access to the properties on it. The houses are designed to catch the breezes off the water so the use of AC is really not necessary. Sunsets are absolutely the most stunning from our home.
This is a one acre estate which is lush with many fruit trees including lemons, limes, mangos, bananas, avocados, nuts etc.
The property is gated with a private circular drive around a massive Mango Tree and in the back there is a towering Rain Forest LeCeiba Tree that takes your breath away.
Just one to two minutes walk to 4 great restaurants and two fun bars. 10 Min. drive to West End which is filled with restaurants and bars. Or you can have our staff bring you local food which is delicious. There is a produce truck that comes by daily if you ask and small local stores and restaurants.
Everything for a true island experience.
This property is located 100' away from the larger Casa Cowee VRBO listing #126086 So if you are looking for space for more people. $50.00 for pick up and drop off at the airport along with your grocery stop. AC is a min. 75.00 + surcharge for the week as most people do not want to use it so not built into the price. We meter it for you so you pay for what you use.
My name is Suzanne Boyce and I purchased The Casa Cowee Estate (2013) from the original owners that had it built in 1974 after falling love with Roatan and the local people on a road trip from Aspen Colorado. They commissioned the design with a famous local architect to capture the luscious warm breezes off the Caribbean. The same love of the island and it's people and slow lifestyle took hold of me. Unfortunately I still have to work in Canada but good for you as you will have a chance to have the same great experience while I work to get back down there. The property has undergone many upgrades this year and we are continuing to improve. Not to say we are changing anything that will lose the total island feel of unique rustic Casa Cowee. Did I mention the sunsets?
Go to Casa Cowee (the main house) VRBO 126086 Both houses can be rented together.
Suzanne Boyce purchased this cabin in 2013
If you are looking for a gated community and concierge service this is not it. This is a one acre private estate that is planted with an abundance of tropical trees, rainforest trees, fruit and fragrant flowers. It sits right on the beach but sits higher on a hill to catch the caressing Caribbean breezes. We have all new security system with live monitoring day and night by Bull Dog Security. The house is yours to live a self sufficient island life. . You have towels provided and bed linens. The towels are changed out once during the week. If you use a lot of beach towels maybe bring some of your own. We have laundry facilities on the property for a small fee per load.
Security, Casa Cowee had a theft in 2010.
Since I bought Casa Cowee in 2013 I have made it one of the most secure properties on Sandy Bay. Reason? Same as at home in Canada. If security is high there is less chance of intruders. I stay here on my own most times and I like to feel safe like everyone else. This Island is wonderful oasis and there is no need to live in a gated community. The Islanders are wonderful and helpful. The laws are now extremely strict about stealing and penalties far exceed petty crime.
We ask that all our guests use the security provided. Not only to protect them but to protect Casa Cowee's reputation and it's staffs jobs.
Temple Tree House is part of the Casa Cowee estate VRBO 126086 and the new Bamboo Casita and can be rented at the same time for up to 8 people so you will have up to four separate bedrooms three baths and three kitchens
The decks overlook the water and you will experience breath taking sunsets. We have our own dock to swim off of and swim out to the reef to snorkel or book a snorkelling tour with Channin and Kim Bodden our property managers, to adventure to some other spectacular sites. You get use of our two kayaks and snorkelling equipment with your house. Walk to everything on Sandy Bay, Diving, Dining, bars, Fishing, Spa. 200 ft by water from Anthony's Key Dolphins. 10 Min drive to lively West End.
No car necessary for two people. Channin Bodden Tours is the best for great Island Tours. They have a web site. Sandy Bay has the best local fisherman to take you out fishing.
Temple Treehouse was lovely and comfortable for my wife and I. The property lived up to its description of amenities and services.
Channin Bodden and Jose were very helpful with information about Roatan, its people and our requests. Would highly recommend day tour of the island with Channin to get a feel of the culture and island. Also got good info on "local" cuisine and eateries. Blue Bahia and Tranquil Seas are easy walking distance for great food, drinks and entertainment. Property is close to gardens, dolphin experience. To snorkel, all one has to do is go down the steps to the beach , out the dock and jump in. The reef is a short swim and runs all along the beach.
We did rent an SUV and did some exploring in our own. Do not miss Daniel Johnson's Monkey and Sloth Hangout. However, there are inexpensive transportation options if you don't want to drive.
This was our first trip to Roatan and we will certainly consider another vacation there.
The Temple Treehouse was everything I hoped it would be and then some. From the communications the months before my arrival to my departure two weeks after it, Suzanne responded immediately to any questions I had. I was met by the property manger Kemberly who took me to the grocery store to stock up. As soon as we pulled into the circular drive, Jose was there to meet us. How he carried my ridiculously heave suitcase up those stairs was a miracle! I settled in quickly and for the most part spent the next two weeks exploring Sandy Bay, as well as other parts of the island by foot, by taxi or with friends I met during my stay. Channin and Jose took me out for a day of snorkeling and made sure we found the place where hundreds of starfish lay about the soft sandy bottom. Jose also was kind enough to accompany me snorkeling right off the beach in front of the Treehouse dock, which was spectacular reef life. Even saw an octopus snoozing in the reef grass! The accommodations of the Treehouse were more than sufficient for 1 (or 2) people. Spacious, clean, modern. It was stocked with all the necessities as well as some extras, like a beautiful floral arrangement in the bath and kitchen. Air Conditioning was not needed thanks to the breezes off the sea. There are a few beach restaurants just a quick walk down the sandy shore where there were nightly specials, sometimes live music, and most certainly friendly people. The Blue Bahia Beach Grill owners were kind enough to include me at their Thanksgiving table. Gracious folks. There is so much to do and see around the island, and yet so much beauty in just doing nothing. In my opinion, Sandy Bay is the PERFECT location, whether for short term vacation or long term stay. It was convenient to West End, West Bay Beach, the airport, and other local attractions like Anthony's Key Resort/Roatan Institute for Marine Science, diving, dolphins, ziplining, hiking, and the botannical gardens. All in all, as a single 50 year old woman traveling alone internationally for the first time, I highly recommend any of Suzanne's Casa Cowee properties (Main house, Temple Treehouse or Casita). Thank you Suzanne, Channin, Kemberly and Jose for your hospitality and wonderful lifetime memories!
Great location. Management was very attentive and friendly. Overall, couldn't have been happier.
If a recipe were to exist for a first-rate honeymoon, it would have included all of the ingredients that made up Temple Tree House. We arrived, exhausted from our wedding, to find a veritable paradise waiting for us. Turquoise ocean before us, luscious jungle beside us, and any remaining stresses laid far behind us. We had arrived.
Of the three main living spaces that make up the Temple Tree House property, we were staying in the 1 bedroom cabanna. A great bed room, kitchen and large bathroom were all we needed for the next 9 days. The entire space was open and constantly kissed with ocean breezes through its many windows. The air conditioner is available, but during our stay that peaked at 29°C daytime high, it was never even a consideration. To give in to air conditioning was to laugh in the face of the favorable breeze that was gifted to us.
While there, we were able to walk safely and comfortably to a number of wonderful restaurants. Tranquil Seas Eco Lodge was just a short walk away, along with Blue Bahia, Dolce Vita, and Anthony’s Key Resort. All offered a great mix of local and standards to choose from. When we didn’t dine out, we did small shopping trips to Eldon’s supermarket (think small Safeway) where we bought some basics just to have handy.
Our cabin tree house was a wonderful part of our whole experience on the island. For a more sanitized holiday, you might want to stay at a resort, but for us the adventure was important. There was never a thought that we had bit off too much adventure though. We snorkeled almost daily in the clear blue wonder of a 79°C ocean and tried scuba for the first time at Tranquil Seas. If you have done scuba in other places like Cuba or Jamaica, please do it here. You won't believe the difference.
We’d like to thank the wonderful on-site caretaker José who kept the grounds beautiful and helped out with anything we required. The off-site managers Channin and Kimberlee were equally wonderful, informative, and welcoming to us, and always just a call away for anything. Suzanne, the owner was always wonderful to deal with for booking. Extremely quick replies and always looking out for our best interest and enjoyment!
In tragic dating profile write-ups, the phrase “loves long walks on the beach under the stars” appears time and again. I can only assume that all of these people have stayed at Temple Tree House. It truly is a place to experience all the things you just don’t know that you love yet.
Temple tree house is located in a great area. A mixture of tourists, expats and locals. The beach is nice and uncrowded even in the busy season. Very helpful staff. The house had everything we needed except for a phone which would have been useful a couple of times. There is wifi which was great. It was peaceful and quiet and had a great view of the ocean and a mere steps from the beach. Will definitely rent again
This is the best place ever. We had the most relaxing time, enjoyed magnificent sunsets and local hospitality. The locals are very friendly and helpful. A grand shout out to property staff; Channin, Kemberlee, and Jose......they are the best! Look forward to going again.
The Temple Tree House located on the beach of Roatan, a true Caribbean Island. It is extremely hilly and is surrounded by the second largest reef in the world. Our part of Sandy Bay is a small community right on the water. The growth is lush tropical. In fact we have up to 75' palm trees, 100 foot La Ceiba tree and fruit and flowering plants and trees that cause you to pause. You can watch our humming birds bath on the leaves of our trees right outside your window and hear birds of the jungle shouting out their greetings. A short walk up to the main road and you are at the botanical gardens in which you can climb up through the jungle to the top of a hill to get the eagle eye view of our Tranquil little Sandy Bay.
Our local fisherman will take you out for a day of deep sea, or fly fishing.
Great diving shops are within one to two minutes walk down our beach, where you can take your courses, open water dives etc. on the less used Sandy bay side which still has pristine sites to explore.
You are a 10 minute taxi ride to the popular laid back West End if you want to step it up a notch with dancing, karaoke, dinning and bars!
West Bay the place for larger resorts is a great beach and fantastic for snorkelling and fascinating people watching, beach massages, hawkers galore.
For me fun for a few hours for sure.
Our Sandy Bay you have an opportunity to get to know the locals and everyone parties together on this island so get ready as the native people are super nice and lots of fun. If you need anything or some advice just ask they are more than accommodating.
Casa Cowee estate and activities are managed by locals of Sandy Bay, their pride of their island shows.
