Massa lubrense: The territory of Massa Lubrense occupies all the final part of the Sorrento Paninsula, with a settlement divided into about thirty hamlets. The early testimonies about Massa belong to the 10th century, when it was property of the Sorrento Duchy. It succeeded to gain its freedom from Sorrento only in 1470. Its name is derived from the Langobard word 'mansa', which defined a territorial unit, with the adjective 'lubrense' related to the Church of Madonna della Lobra, so named because it was built upon a preexisting pagan temple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pipIOjVAtFs.
From the centre of Massa Lubrense starts the road leading to Marina della Lobra, a seafaring suburb with the houses built in front of the seashore and of the harbour. At the entrance of the village there is the Church of Santa Maria della Lobra (Our Lady of the Lobra), built in 1528 to replace the former paleochristian church. Inside the church there is a beautiful pavement in majolica of the 18th century

We had a great time and will come back soon. Thank you to all of you. Isa e Dario. Andrew Vissichio
Large well appointed apartment in quieter less crowded Massa Lubrense. Lovely antique furnishings. Biza was very helpful and informative.
I travelled to Italy with my very elderly parents, my partner and two adult children. We stayed at this wonderful place. The view is fabulous from the terrace where you can eat all your meals. The rooms are bright and have lots of personality. Upstairs the bedrooms have so much history. There is a short walk down to the delightful town where you can buy great food. The pizza restaurant up the hill is also good.
The owner prepared a number of excellent meals for us. She is a wonderful person who made our stay even more special
You should try this place
We were 2 families with our 2 grandchildren, 10 in total, who enjoyed two weeks at this lovely villa. Isabella the owner was very gracious and helpful. The villa was spacious and had all the facilities of home, the view from every room was spectacular.
There were several restaurants, pizzeria's and bakeries to choose from on the days you didn't feel like cooking. If you did decide to cook and buy your fresh fruits, vegetables and groceries around the corner at the local store you could enjoy your meal and wine on the terrace with the gorgeous sea view.
The bus stop was just around the corner from the villa which you could take to the other towns on the Almafi Coast or you could call Persico's Taxi & Limousine service in Massa Lubrense and go by Taxi or Limo. Going to the island of Capri by boat and visiting all the other towns along the coast are a must. There are also several beaches to choose from, the one we went to was just a short bus or taxi ride away in Nerano, you could rent, umbellas, chairs for the day, shops and restaurants to choose from.
This was a family trip I will never forget, it was fabulous.
We are 6 adults who enjoyed a super long weekend at this lovely property. Isabel the owner could not have been more helpful. On arrival Isabel took the 3 ladies to the local supermarket to stock up on provisions which was much appreciated as we had decided not to hire a car. The bus stop was just outside the villa and we used this to take us into Sorrento for the day. We spent one day on the Isle Of Capri and it was great to be able to walk down from the villa to the little harbour in Massa Lubrense to catch the boat. The walk back up was very steep so a taxi was required!! Another day spent touring the Amalfi coast which starts just around the corner from the villa.
Isabel was always available to give advice as to the best restuarants and places to visit. The villa is very spacious and well equiped and the view from the terrace stunning. Super for breakfasts and nightcaps!!Would certainly recommend this property to anyone
thinking of going to this wonderful part of Italy.
It's hard to imagine how charming this place is before you see it in person. The location is just ideal. Away from the traffic of Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast, just up the hill from the gentle bustle of downtown Massa Lubrense, the villa commands a perfect vista of the Mediterranean from two levels. We watched the sun set over the sea every evening from the terrace.
The house is quiet and peaceful but very conveniently located to an excellent little grocery store and a great Pizzeria. It's easy to take a 2 minute walk to re-provision. The kitchen is well-equipped and comfortable for 2 cooking together. The local produce is so outrageously good that it's a shame to stay anywhere without a kitchen in this part of Italy!
The inside of the house has been decorated by an artist with a vivacious color sense and a playful imagination. Every room is comfortable and beautiful, filled with excellent original artwork. It is a cheerful, welcoming place. There are plenty of quiet places to steal away and read or sit together and visit. The beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are also. The access to a clothes washer is also a huge benefit.
Isa was an ideal hostess, ready to help or answer any question we might have about the area. She made a wonderful neighbor for the duration of our stay. The enthusiasm of her morning "Buongiorno!" is in itself worth the trip!
The other member of the welcoming committee is Prince, the cat. He moved in with us for the week (with our enthusiastic encouragement). A big talker (and a bigger cuddler), he made the place really feel like home.
The villa is a 10 minute walk from the beach, conveniently located to all kinds of footpaths, and an ideal staging area for all kinds of excursions on the Sorrentine Peninsula. The famous Amalfi Drive begins around the corner. Sorrento is minutes away by car, and there are several less famous little villages nearby which are well-worth visiting. It's also easy to arrange a visit to Capri. But, you'll probably find, as we did, that it's just as good to stay put. The villa itself is so comfortable, with such a lovely view, and Massa Lubrense is such a charming little town, there isn't much pull to leave. In fact, it was very hard to leave at week's end... I'd like to be there now.
We would like to let everybody who reads this page know how much we enjoyed our stay in Isabella´s villa in San Francesco, Massa Lubrense. We were especially impressed, that villa was so spacious, furnished with original paintings and live colours. Old and very modern items were tastely choosen to build a joyful environment for a lived and loved house. It had ample space for 10 people, although we were only 6, we would recommend villa even for smaller groups such as we were. Boungainvilla had a gorgeous sea view. We also greatly appreciated having a large kitchen completely furnished with all necessary kitchen utensils, as we took a chance of fresh italian vegetables and other groceries we bought in a little grocery store just behind the corner from our villa and cooked wonderful italian dishes ourselves. While eating al fresco we enjoyed spectacular views from the terrace .
The owner and her family were so nice and helpful. We would really recommend this place and accomodation for all those who want to have unique holidays. The villa was everything and more we had thought of. Thank you Isa!

Tennis, sailing, trekking, cooking lessons, wine tours, disco, mountain biking, musical concerts in Sorrento and Ravello, festivals in the tiny villages, boat trips to Capri and the towns on the Amalfi Coast. Excursions to Pompeii, Vesuvius Park, the famous museums in Naples and shopping (wonderful ceramics, linens, handmade sandals, specialty markets). The friendly owner will arrange as many of the above as you want. However, it will be your responsibility to save time for at least a few evenings spent on one of the outdoor terraces watching the sunset and then all the little twinkling lights of Naples and Capri across the Bay
