Overview

About the property

Two bed/two bath chalet with ocean and forest views

OCEAN VIEW CHALET is a tranquil, private and fully equipped 2-bedroom 2-bathroom cottage within a wooded vacation home setting and within walking distance of trails, rocky shorelines, a beach resort and other attractions..

The chalet is nicely secluded with no neighbors in view, a "Hilltop Hideaway". The only sound is the ocean - a constant - breaking against a dramatic and rocky shoreline about 300 feet away and accessible within a minute's walk.

Roads in the immediate area are private, quiet and great for strolling or jogging. The sky at night is DARK as there are no street-lights or other sources of light pollution; so stargazing is amazing. Within a five minute walk of the chalet are additional deserted and dramatic ocean viewpoints (see pics).

If you don't mind the summer crowds or choose to come during a less busy season, or have children, a stay at Ocean View Chalet can include resort facility usage until 5:30 daily. It may be unavailable some days due to capacity issues, but at $9 + HST per person per day ($90 + HST for 15 passes) and payable at the Front desk, these resort passes may be of interest. The Resort's dining and lounge facilities are also open to the public as well as on-site massage services. .

BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO DO THAN THAT!

Two minutes to the west of the entrance to the resort lies the quaint seaside fishing village of Hunts Point (and at Seaside Seafoods, some of the best clams this side of Digby), a couple of minutes beyond that is the beautiful Summerville Beach Provincial Park with its mile long white sand beach. The Broad River empties into the bay and is crossed by the Trestle hiking Trail running both inland and back to the historic town of Liverpool.

Also at Summerville Beach you will find the Quarterdeck Grill (check out Tripadvisor before booking) as well as kayak and surfboard rentals.

Further down the coast, about 15 minutes, you can hike through the Keji seaside park with its vast seal colony, view historic lighthouses, fishing boats and stroll both sandy and rugged rocky coastlines.

Start your day at Ocean Surf Chalet with with breakfast "at home" or with a relaxing stroll along the private road to the nature trail and perhaps on to the lodge for a look around. Check out the breakfast buffet. You may feel like you are back on a cruise ship - not necessarily a bad thing - and dive right in.

OTHER TOURING IDEAS

Within a Fifteen Minute Drive: Head south down Hwy 103 through Port Mouton to one of Nova Scotia's finest beaches: Carter's Beach. With a parking area for all of fifteen cars (and rarely full), it is a series of three crescent shaped beaches with offshore islands reminiscent of the Caribbean (minus the palm trees of course). If you like deserted, this is it, though it has become a favorite stopover for sailboats and the occasional tall ship.

Drive east on Hwy 3 to the Town of Liverpool, one of the oldest towns in the Province. Noted for its colorful maritime history, it is a treasure trove of historic homes, many of which date back to when captains of industry and of the sea vied for the most impressive homes. One of them is now a fascinating museum of local history.

Within a Forty-five Minute Drive:

To the south (a twenty-minute drive) is the wild rocky coastline and surrounding natural splendor of the Seaside Adjunct of Kejimkujik National Preserve and its seal colonies. A 'must sea'.

In the opposite direction, the Town of Bridgewater sits on the LaHave River. There are wonderful scenic drives on both sides of the river down to the sea, from where you can follow the coast by road. Have lunch at the LaHave Bakery where they bake their own breads and pastries and continue on to the LaHave Islands, Crescent Beach and Petite Riviere.

Just beyond Bridgewater are the major attractions of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, the latter a Unesco World Heritage Site. Home to the Bluenose, a beautiful tall ship in port for daily excursions, Lunenburg is also a departure point for spectacular whale-watching excursions.

About Jeff Percy

A retired couple transplanted from Ontario with backgrounds in law, education and the civil service, we also enjoy offering the vacation rental 'Ocean Surf Cottage', as a vacation destination just down the road from White Point Resort

Jeff Percy purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Jeff Percy chose Hunts Point

The chalet style cottage is designed as a vacation home and feels like a place to enjoy rest and relaxation - as opposed to a 'regular' house, where it is harder to feel on vacation. Situated high on its property and with nothing visible but rocks, trees and, most of all, the ocean, it feels isolated without actually being so.

What makes this chalet unique

OCEAN VIEW CHALET sits atop a rocky ridge with sight-lines above the trees and towards the open sea all the way to the horizon.

Located within the two hundred acres of protected forest that is White Point Estates, Ocean View Chalet is among the few vacation and year-round residences that make up this private resort community. It is accessed though the grounds of the Resort and its ocean-side Golf Course.

The chalet is very private with no neighbors in view. The only sound is the ocean, breaking against a dramatic and rocky shoreline about 300 feet away accessible within a minute's walk.

Roads within the community are private, quiet and great for strolling or riding your (supplied) bicycles. The sky at night is DARK as there are no street-lights. Stargazing is amazing.

Owner's Response: Thanks Bruce. Even in the dead of winter our hilltop Chalet is perfect for a romantic - in this case Valentine's - getaway. The Beach Resort being only a short walk away likely didn't hurt either. Its excellent cuisine, and comfy lounge, not to mention available rec. facilities (especially that indoor pool and spa the kids love) make for winter escapes that are sure to lift the spirits.

Great place to stay. Well appointed and private.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the chalet. Great view of the ocean and very quiet and private. We ate at The Quarterdeck Grill once about a ten minute drive away. Great food and again a great view over the water. Bring your bug spray if you’re there in the summer!!

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

This chalet is a gem hidden high on a hill amongst the trees, with a great view of the ocean, the bay, and White Point Resort. The property is very neat, clean, well furnished and very well equipped with everything you could want to consider it your home away from home. Peaceful at night where you can see the stars, and the milky way all while listening to the sound of the ocean surf. Jeff also offered numerous additional tips and hints to make our stay even more enjoyable!. An excellent rental experience!

Owner's Response: Thank-you Ralph, especially for the reminder that with zero light pollution (other than occasional sightings of fishing boats coming in on the tide) star-gazing on clear moonless nights is absolutely awe-inspiring.

The chalet is the perfect place to rest and rejeuvenate

  • 5 of 5

We were due for a bit of rest and relaxation, and we found it at the Ocean View Chalet! The chalet was clean and well-appointed. Most importantly, the surroundings were beautiful and peaceful, creating a perfect environment for reading and relaxing. There is nothing better than going to sleep and waking up to the rhythmic sounds of ocean waves crashing on rocks. Finally, the chalet was perfectly located for day trips to beautiful hiking and cycling locations. We'll be back!

The Main Lodge of White Point Beach Resort is a five minute drive away or fifteen minutes by foot via a scenic nature trail.

Beyond the resort itself there is so much to see and do within an hour's drive, that the resort facilities are but icing on the cake.

For example, two minutes to the west of the entrance to the resort lie the quaint seaside fishing village of Hunts Point (and at Seaside Seafoods, some of the best clams this side of Digby), a couple of minutes beyond that the beautiful Summerville Beach Provincial Park with its mile long white sand beach. The Broad River empties into the bay and is crossed by the Trestle hiking Trail running both inland and back to the historic town of Liverpool.

Also at Summerville Beach you will find the designated 'Taste of Nova Scotia' eatery Quarterdeck Grill as well as kayak and surfboard rentals.

Further down the coast, about 15 minutes, you can hike through the Keji seaside park with its vast seal colony, view historic lighthouses, fishing boats and stroll both sandy and rugged rocky coastlines.

Start your day with with breakfast 'at home' followed by a relaxing stroll along the private road to the nature trail and perhaps on to the lodge. There, aside from a delicious breakfast buffet (plus menu items), check your email (Wi-fi at the Lodge) or walk along the sand. Later, rent a kayak or surfboard or, with the purchase of a day pass ($9), make full use of all facilities available to White Point guests. These include indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, hot tub and nicely equipped fitness centre. There is also the Ocean Spa with all manner of massage options - hot stone, Swedish, sport etc.

After a day of touring, the Founders Lounge at the Lodge, or your own private Chalet are there for your enjoyment.

Ocean View Chalet is the affordable way to enjoy the facilities of a modern, fully equipped 2bed/2bath cottage in a private and rugged solitude, all with nearby access to a premium resort destination.
