Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chalet in Hunts Point - Ocean View Chalet

Two bed/two bath chalet with ocean and forest views

OCEAN VIEW CHALET IS A ROMANTIC ESCAPE overlooking White Point Beach Resort enjoying views above the trees and far out to sea.

Apart from the accommodations offered by the Beach Resort itself, Ocean View Chalet is one of only a handful of adjacent properties available for vacationers.

The chalet is secluded with no neighbors in view, a "Hilltop Hideaway". The only sound is the ocean, breaking against a dramatic and rocky shoreline about 300 feet away and accessible within a minute's walk.

Roads (more like nature trails really) are private, quiet and great for strolling or jogging. The sky at night is DARK as there are no street-lights or other sources of light pollution; so stargazing is amazing. Within a five minute walk of the chalet are additional deserted and dramatic ocean viewpoints (see pics).

A stay at Ocean View Chalet offers significant savings compared to similar accommodations offered by the Resort - and which usually sell out; yet the Main Lodge of the Resort is only a walk away - fifteen minutes along a gorgeous waterfront nature trail (or a 5-minute drive). The Resort's dining and lounge facilities (and, of course the beach) are open to the public. We highly recommended the hospitality services, both for their ambiance and for the quality of the food (the wine list is extensive).

If you want the total Resort experience (short of staying there), day passes can be purchased. Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, saunas, kayaks and games rooms. Passes are usually available (subject to capacity or special event constraints) at $9 per person per day or 15 passes for $90.

Feel like being pampered? The Resort's "Ocean Spa" offers a variety of relaxing massage therapies as well as other aesthetics services - all at reasonable prices (especially compared to the big city!).

Besides White Point beach Resort, there is lots to see and do while you are here, much of it within an hour's drive.

Two minutes to the west of the entrance to the resort lies the quaint seaside fishing village of Hunts Point (and at Seaside Seafoods, some of the best clams this side of Digby), a couple of minutes beyond that is the beautiful Summerville Beach Provincial Park with its mile long white sand beach. The Broad River empties into the bay and is crossed by the Trestle hiking Trail running both inland and back to the historic town of Liverpool.

Also at Summerville Beach you will find the designated "Taste of Nova Scotia" eatery, the Quarterdeck Grill as well as kayak and surfboard rentals.

Further down the coast, about 15 minutes, you can hike through the Keji seaside park with its vast seal colony, view historic lighthouses, fishing boats and stroll both sandy and rugged rocky coastlines.

Start your day with with breakfast "at home" followed by a relaxing stroll along the private road to the nature trail and perhaps on to the lodge. There, aside from a delicious reasonably priced breakfast buffet - for days you don't feel like cooking - there is a choice of menu items). Walk along the sand, feed the bunnies. Later, rent a kayak or surfboard or, with the purchase of a day pass ($9), make full use of all facilities available to White Point guests. These include indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, hot tub, pool tables, tennis courts, outdoor shuffleboard etc. There is also the Ocean Spa with all manner of massage options - hot stone, Swedish, sport etc.

After a day of touring, the Founders Lounge at the Lodge, or your own private Chalet are there for your enjoyment.

Ocean View Chalet is the affordable way to enjoy the facilities of a fully equipped house in a private and rugged solitude, yet with excellent dining and resort facilities virtually on your doorstep.

OTHER TOURING IDEAS

Within a Fifteen Minute Drive: Head south down Hwy 103 through Port Mouton to one of Nova Scotia's finest beaches: Carter's Beach. With a parking area for all of fifteen cars (and rarely full), it is a series of three crescent shaped beaches with offshore islands reminiscent of the Caribbean (minus the palm trees of course). If you like deserted, this is it, though it has become a favorite stopover for sailboats and the occasional tall ship.

Drive east on Hwy 3 to the Town of Liverpool, one of the oldest towns in the Province. Noted for its colorful maritime history, it is a treasure trove of historic homes, many of which date back to when captains of industry and of the sea vied for the most impressive homes. One of them is now a fascinating museum of local history.

Within a Forty-five Minute Drive:

To the south (a twenty-minute drive) is the wild rocky coastline and surrounding natural splendor of the Seaside Adjunct of Kejimkujik National Preserve and its seal colonies. A 'must sea'.

In the opposite direction, the Town of Bridgewater sits on the LaHave River. There are wonderful scenic drives on both sides of the river down to the sea, from where you can follow the coast by road. Have lunch at the LaHave Bakery where they bake their own breads and pastries and continue on to the LaHave Islands, Crescent Beach and Petite Riviere.

Just beyond Bridgewater are the major attractions of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, the latter a Unesco World Heritage Site. Home to the Bluenose, a beautiful tall ship in port for daily excursions, Lunenburg is also a departure point for spectacular whale-watching excursions.

About Jeff Percy

A retired couple transplanted from Ontario with backgrounds in law, education and the civil service, we also enjoy offering the vacation rental 'Ocean Surf Cottage', as a vacation destination just down the road from White Point Resort

Jeff Percy purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Jeff Percy chose Nova Scotia

The chalet style cottage is designed as a vacation home and feels like a place to enjoy rest and relaxation - as opposed to a 'regular' house, where it is harder to feel on vacation. Situated high on its property and with nothing visible but rocks, trees and, most of all, the ocean, it feels isolated without actually being so. Having White Point Beach Resort right there, it offers the convenience of being at the resort but with more private and personal space plus the flexibility to reduce your vacation costs by cooking some meals at home - at substantially less than the two bedroom, kitchen-equipped accommodations of resort itself. Bottom line: we bought the property for exclusive use as a vacation destination for our visitors.

What makes this chalet unique

OCEAN VIEW CHALET sits atop a rocky ridge with sight-lines above the trees and towards the open sea all the way to the horizon.

Located within the two hundred acres of protected forest that is White Point Estates, Ocean View Chalet is one of only 45 upscale vacation and year-round residences that make up this private resort community. It is accessed though the grounds of the Resort and its ocean-side Golf Course.

The chalet is very private with no neighbors in view, hence the 'Hilltop Hideaway' reference. The only sound is the ocean, breaking against a dramatic and rocky shoreline about 300 feet away accessible within a minute's walk.

Roads within the community are private, quiet and great for strolling or riding your (supplied) bicycles. The sky at night is DARK as there are no street-lights. Stargazing is amazing.

The Main Lodge of White Point Beach Resort is but a five minute bike ride away or fifteen minutes by foot via a scenic nature trail.

Ocean View Chalet is the affordable way to enjoy the facilities of a fully equipped house in a private and rugged solitude, within the purview of a premium resort destination.

Great Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful cottage for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. It was exactly what we expected from the pictures and description. The owners were so kind and corresponded through email as needed. So quiet and relaxing. We ate at the lodge several times and the food was great. We also golfed at the resort course and found it challenging to say the least :). There is lots to see and do just a short drive away. Summerville beach is nice and the Quarterdeck restaurant was one of our favourites.

Charming secluded chalet close to resort

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming chalet with ocean views (and sounds!) quite close to the resort community of White's Point. A great location for exploring the south shore, we were not more than 1.5 hours from Halifax and Annapolis. The chalet was comfortable, clean and the upstairs master suite is really charming. Our only disappointment was that there was no real path to the beach - we fought our way through the brush along one 'path' to discover an inaccessible boulder shore. However, there is a nice nature trail (clearly marked) that leads to White's Point where there is a magnificent sand beach. Wonderful dining at the resort too. We would definitely return.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words Diane. Sorry you didn't enjoy your hike to the "beach". Our listing and activity info both acknowledge that our nearest ocean-frontage is a rocky and rugged shoreline not suitable for swimming and that due to the nature of the vegetation we recommended jeans be worn getting to it. Your route through the ferns traversed what is an untended and still undeveloped lot leading to a stretch of natural ocean-frontage. Also since it is private property (though not barred to hikers), we have no right to establish or groom a trail or path across it. Although not suitable for swimming it is a great setting for relaxing, reading or sun-bathing on the rocks - all with spectacular views (it is picture #19 in the listing). Glad you enjoyed the Resort's sandy beach. Hurry back. If you get here earlier in the season the ferns in your path through the woodsto the rocky shore will be a bit easier to get through. Cheers

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is in a beautiful setting and very well equipped and furnished. We were fortunate to be able to spend two weeks, enjoying the sound of the ocean and views of the water. The owner was helpful and accommodating and we enjoyed meeting him. We had a delightful vacation. Thanks, Jeff

Peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Open the windows and bring the sounds and smells of the ocean inside. We had the most amazing week using this property as our base. The house is so comfortably furnished, the view from the front of the house beautiful and the location inside White Point resort property is very convenient. The resort offers an excellent selection of drinks and food, a lovely beach and more. Or stay at the house and utilize the gas grill. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: That's funny: you must have been writing this review exactly as I was processing your damage deposit refund; confirmations of both hit my in-box at the same time. BTW thanks for taking the time to submit it and for reminding everyone how great it is to have the Resort right there. We just got back from enjoying a great lunch there ourselves. Cheers, Jeff

Great location and great view

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this house! We were visiting for a wedding and could not be happier with the location and how easy it was to get to everything. After a 16 hour trip with an 18 month old it was great to show up to the house we did. The landscaping and the view of the ocean were amazing. You can tell that this property is cared for. Jeff was great to deal with and talk to. Kept the process smooth and helped recommend some great spots to visit. The accessibility to the White Point Lodge was also great. Our family loved that. I would recommend this property to anyone and if we ever decided to visit Nova Scotia again this would be my first and top choice! Thanks for everything!

Truly better than expected

  • 5 of 5

I am a self-proclaimed travel snob. If I leave the comforts of my home I expect to stay somewhere that does not disappoint me with that decision to leave. This property was better than explained, views are amazing, landscaping is very well done and extremely tasteful. The house is comfortable and cozy in every sense of the word. Great grill, had two pound lobsters and two pound steaks one evening, best dinner we had in NS. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend this property to friends and family. I've been told the surrounding areas are nice but I truly can't comment as we rarely left. Very very nice, you won't be disappointed. (If I can make one teeny tiny observation, it would be nice to have pots and pans and cutlery to meet the quality of the home. They are NOT bad, I am a foodie and love to cook, it would just be great for a couple hundred dollar update). This SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT DETER ANYONE FROM RENTING. Only an observation for the owner. Regards, BR/AW

Owner's Response: What a great reviewI. We often ask visitors how we might improve on their experience. Here is a case where a specific passion resulted in an unexpected but valuable answer. We will do it. Thank-you BR/AW.
