About the property

A Pet Friendly Original Restored Cottage In Indian Rocks Beach

Manning Hammock is one of the oldest private residences in Indian Rocks Beach. Built by Captain John Manning in 1926 and lovingly restored, the cottage is nestled in a hammock of live oaks and palm trees just a block from both the beach and the intercostal waterway. Our large, fully fenced yard offers a shaded retreat with a fountain, hanging orchids, and many birds: an island oasis and a safe play place for dogs and children alike. With two queen-sized bedrooms and a sofa , Manning Hammock can accommodate up to five guests. A garden room, screened porch, separate living/dining room, and outside seating area provide ample space for reading and games. Rinse off after the beach in the secluded outdoor hot-and-cold shower. Seagrass flooring, ample parking, original wood paneling. Owner has additional nearby properties to accommodate larger groups.

About Harry Flowers

Hal and Marian Flowers, Tampa residents spend as much time as possible at Indian Rocks Beach. They originally purchased Chicasi Cottage in 1998 for their family beach house. They acquired Manning Hammock, just a block away, to preserve the historic cottage and the beautiful property, and to accommodate their ever growing family with a fenced in yard for children and pets. Although across the street from the beach, Hal loves Manning Hammock because of the 12 majestic live oaks on the property which provide a cool shady retreat, the tranquil setting, and the access to the City boat docks on the Intercoastal across the street. Marian enjoys tending the many orchids which hang in the trees, and everyone enjoys the variety of birds who come to enjoy the feeders and the flowing fountain waters.

Harry Flowers purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Harry Flowers chose Indian Rocks Beach

The most beautiful landscaped garden in Indian Rocks Beach with real attention to tropical gardens and to the design of the cottage's interiors.

What makes this cottage unique

Privacy in a beautiful setting. At the beach, but not on the beach.

A Gem of Old Florida Charm

  • 5 of 5

Spending a week a Manning Hammock is like stepping back in time. It has all the modern conveniences you would want in a vacation home; well stocked kitchen , super comfortable bed and linens, wifi, cable tv etc. but it offers so much more. Set truly in a 'hammock' the fenced yard is lush with tropical landscaping and is a great place for your dogs to spend an afternoon chasing lizards. The bird-feeders call to many different types of birds ( including green parrots) and the outdoor shower and patio is protected from the weather and very private. The inside is decorated in 'Old Florida' style with many interesting books, collections and local art. The home is close to great restaurants and cute shops and is about a 150 yard walk to the beautiful beaches of Indian Rocks. You can park your car when you arrive and never use it again until *poof* it's time to go back to reality! Harry is a great host - unobtrusive but attentive ( he even called to apologize for the rain) and he offers great recommendations on local restaurants etc. Indian Rocks is a laid-back beach town that's perfect for relaxing. After seven peaceful days we made our way back home with sand in our shoes and a new home away from home in our hearts - we loved it here! Thanks for a great week! See you again soon!

Beautiful Property - Relaxing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing vacation at an absolutely wonderful home. The location could not be any better. Steps to the beach, restaurants, bars, and ICE CREAM. The home and furnishings were a really neat step back through history. BUT, the most spectacular part of this property has to be the outside. The property, the landscaping, and the wildlife made us want to sit outside for hours and just relax. It was fun to hear every person that walked by on the sidewalk talk about how much they loved the house and the property. This place is definitely pet friendly. We have never seen our dog have so much fun!!! She chased squirrels, woodpeckers, blue jays, and other birds for hours and hours. AND….to top it off, the owners are very nice and accommodating. Hal was always available for anything we needed, and responded immediately. Thank you Hal for allowing us the opportunity to stay at your beautiful home!!!

Looking forward to another stay here. We have always loved this area. Tried this place for the first time. We were not ready to leave when the week was up, but reality called us home.

This cottage is across the street from the beach, good food venues all around and the yard is a private jungle all your own!

A Little Piece of Old Time Florida

  • 5 of 5

What a place! If you like old world charm and an absolutely beautiful yard then you've found your house. We knew we rented the right place when we opened the gate and entered the tropical oasis that is the back yard. A wonderful patio, fountain and palm trees everywhere. There were some days we didn't even walk (it only takes two minutes) to the beach. The house is charming too, with lots of cool antiques. The kitchen is quite adequate although we never cooked. The bedrooms were nice and the Florida room has a great view of the back yard. We loved the screened porch too. Enjoyed breakfast out there and afternoon drinks. People walked by on their way to the restaurants and commented "we love your place." After saying a few times that we were just renting, we just stopped answering and accepted the compliments.

Anyway, the location is prime. A quick walk across Gulf Blvd (don't worry, there's a blinking light cross walk on the corner) to the beach. Within two blocks of three restaurants/bars, including the famous Crabby Bills. A small strip center and a CVS are quick walks too. We also had a rental car, and getting across the bridge to Largo and tons of shopping is less than 5 minutes away.

All in all, we were thrilled with this place. Hal was a great host and called to check on us a couple of times, just to make sure we didn't need anything. If we come back to Indian Rocks Beach, there's no question to where we'll stay.

Very unique & charming historic cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Manning Hammock. We really enjoyed the cottage with its unique charm, antiques and artwork. We loved the Old Florida historic feeling of this place - an old ship captain's cottage surrounded by a lush tropical garden- a perfect spot for our kids to play badminton and to just sit enjoying the beautiful palm trees and nature. It was really nice to have bicycles to use too...

We had our family Christmas there - we hosted an outdoor festive BBQ lunch and found a real Fraser Fir tree to decorate with citrus fruit and shells from the beach. A Christmas to remember! This lovely cottage had everything we needed for a very comfortable 2 week holiday and really felt like a home away from home. We loved the porches and different sitting areas to relax in.

The owners take great pride and care in the cottage. Very clean and well maintained. Hal came by and was very friendly and attentive to any needs we had. We appreciated the welcoming treats and kindness. The cottage is situated in a perfect location - 2 minutes to the beach, nearby cafes, restaurants and the new kids waterpark. We would definitely stay here again!

Swimming, shelling, boating, fishing, snorkeling, shopping, (antique

guides are available), relaxing in the hammock, or rocking on the

front porch with a good book. The Indian Rocks Area Historical

Society is a block away, housed in an old beach cottage. Tampa, just

25 miles away has International Plaza, Busch Gardens, and historic

Ybor City. The Seabird Sanctuary and Clearwater Marine Aquarium are

an easy drive. But better yet is the Beach Trolly (cost $1.25) which

runs up and down the beach, as far south as Pass-a-grille. Many

great places to eat, from casual for a grouper sandwich or stone

crabs, to the fancier. There are a number of places to eat

within walking distance, including the Lighthouse Donut shop for a

latte or espresso and fresh donuts, Crabby Bill's, Villa Gallace, Tapas Garden & Wine Bar & JDs.
