Alder Creek! Warm And Inviting Cozy Rooms At Classic Ivy Bear Inn

Bedrooms 2
Space 400 sq. ft.
Property type apartment

About the property

Loowit Room, And Wy' East Room, Two Very Comfortable And Inviting Rooms

These two rooms can be rented separately, or together. They are located at Ivy Bear Inn, located above historical Ivy Bear Pizzeria.

You can drive here very easily, about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from downtown Portland and about 30 minutes from PDX. Plenty of parking in the ample parking lot. Or, if you don't want to drive, you can take Mass Transit from either Portland, or PDX, the Portland area airport. Daily service on the Mt. Hood Express which stops in front of the Ivy Bear is also available from Sandy and can take you to Ski-Bowl or Timberline.

Our Two Delightful Rooms:

Wy'east Room *

Large room with 2 queen beds, and sitting area. Decorated in traditional style, newly renovated10/13. Tempupedic mattresses. Luxury count bed linens. En-suite bathroom with shower. Personal private amenities provided. Outside and inside entrance. A cozy home away from home while you pursue all of Mt Hood's wonderful possible adventures. Sit out on deck and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

Loowit Room *

Large room with queen pine 4-poster bed. Double topped Designer Mattress. Luxury count bed linens. Sitting Room, En-suite bathroom with shower. Personal quality amenities provided. Newly renovated 10/13. Also has a futon that can be made to sleep 2 additional people, but more comfortable for children. Perfect family room. Also outside and inside entrance.

Both Rooms:

Both rooms come with flat screen TV's, DVD players, and cable TV. Both rooms have refrigerators, coffee makers, and microwaves. A great setup for families, a girlfriend week-end, a guy's retreat for hunting and fishing, or even that wonderful romantic getaway for couples.

Rooms are located over Ivy Bear Pizzeria, but no noise or cooking odors are evident in any way. You may smell some delicious smelling home-made marinara sauce aromas drifting up the stairs occasionally, but that is brief, and according to all, when it does occur, very enjoyable! Great soundproofing, no noise of restaurant below reaches the top floor. Restaurant closes at 9pm. Free wi-fi throughout the building.

Delights Of Your Stay At Ivy Bear Inn:

Just imagine a typical day: You have had a full day of skiing, (or snowboarding, or hiking, or fishing, or kayaking, or white-water rafting, or just enjoying the mountain) and you come back to your warm inviting room. You can access either room either by the outdoor deck, or go through the restaurant, and up through the renter's private stairs to their own piece of mountain heaven.

But, the recommendation of most people on restaurant review websites is, do not miss the pizza! This is thin crust, freshly cured and yeasted, made from scratch, on-site with our own secret recipe. As is the sauce, with secret herbs and spices ground daily.

All food made at Ivy Bear Restaurant is made from only the freshest ingredients, and completely home-made.

Many choices of beer taps of exotic and favorite brews awaiting! Many local beers and ciders available. We are licensed, if you are so inclined, you can take your libations to your room for further enjoyment.

So enjoy the restaurant, and admire all the historical objects, pictures, and displays within the building while you are waiting for that tempting slice of epicurean delight. This place is a museum to the Oregon Trail. The owner's love of the mountain and also his appreciation of the pioneers who sacrificed it all to come to this glorious place is evident throughout the building.

There is also a arcade/game room to lure in the old and young alike downstairs in the restaurant part of the building. Many new games, and yet some of those oldies but goodies, those old ones from the 80's and 90's that we all still love and enjoy playing. This is open to renter at all times. So if you get that nagging desire to play one more round of midnight pinball, it is there waiting just for you!

And don't forget to look at the 30' tall Ivy Bear outside! This is where the Inn and Restaurant gets it's name. A must read is the history of the place, from the gun-slinging bootlegging madam of the 20's, to the current owner, Scott Olsen.

Talk to Scott. He is on site almost always, and loves to share his passion of the place and is always readily available for a little history lesson or advice on where to hike, ski, mountaineer, you name it. He is an avid out doorman himself and knows the area thoroughly. He'll happily share some little know delights known only to the locals. Example is the pristine 'river jumping-swimming hole' in the Sandy River behind the inn just a short 5 minute walk away. Perfect for that hot lazy summer afternoon. Little sandy beaches on this same river too that are perfect for the small fry. Scott will get excited telling you of the waterfalls that can be hiked into, or the caves that can be spelunked!

Scott has also been skiing the mountain for 20 years and can tell you of the best runs, black, blue, whatever. Get him talking about the glories of Heather's Canyon at Mt Meadows ski resort during the winter time, a thrill of a lifetime.

Or even, his most avid passion, the sites that still remain of the Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail itself passed right in front of where the Ivy Bear now exists. This is true history right where you are. He can tell you and show you where to go see Laurel Hill, the most difficult traverse, according to many pioneer journals, of the whole Oregon trail. This located within a short drive. Many other Oregon history sites abound in this area. Stop off at the Oregon Trail History Museum on your way to the mountain at Oregon City for even more awe-inspiring and inspirational tales of these early souls. Much of the decorations at the Ivy Bear Restaurant are from this time period and are very thoughtfully presented.

So, hopefully Scott will be there, and most likely he is, so indulge in the incredible food if you decide, linger over a few good beers and good conversation. Then you can take the few steps up the stairs to your own little home away from home, just waiting for you.

The next morning, lucky you, you are one of the clever ones. You have found this little piece of mountain heaven. The mountain and all it's wonderful activities, the cozy rooms, the good food and conversation. You've enjoyed it all.

As one recent guest commented: 'Wow, a full day skiing on the mountain at one of the best resorts I've ever been to, then to come back to this incredible restaurant with the best pizza in the world, then to just climb up the short flight of stairs to the most comfortable room ever? Oh, it just doesn't get any better than this! I never want to leave!' Dr. Nathaniel Gebhard, Sacramento

And now YOU get to do it. Lucky, lucky you.

*Loowit, Wy-east, and Klickitat names are from 'The Legend of Loowit', These are the three mountains from Native American Legend located all within close driving distances. Loowit is Mt. St. Helens, Wy'est is Mt. Hood. And Klickitat is Mt. Adams. These three mountains are the mountains that surround this area and are available for immediate exploration. Read the entire legend framed in the hallway outside the rooms. Very romantic reading! Klitckitat room coming soon!

Super stay

  • 5 of 5

The Ivy Bear B & B was a great choice for our snowboarding vacation to Mount Hood. The room was comfortable, roomy and felt like a home away from home. The B & B is located above the Ivy Bear Pizzeria in Sandy, Oregon. I really liked the location, which was between Portland and Mount Hood. We were able to stop at a shop on the way up the mountain to rent gear and beat the crowds at the top.

Scott, the proprietor, was very friendly and approachable. He is so knowledgeable about the area and so enthusiastic in sharing info about it too. You can tell that he has put his heart into this place! The rest of the staff was awesomely friendly and helpful too.

Beware while staying here! Doesn't matter if it is morning, noon or night; when you emerge from your room, the aroma from the downstairs kitchen will entice you to order a delicious pizza. The Greek pizza was delicious!!

Warm and Cozy right above delicious pizza!

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay, right on Highway 26 on the way to Mount Hood. It sits above a pizza restaurant, but the rooms themselves are actually pretty quiet and private. The restaurant is fantastic with delicious pizza, a fun arcade room, and lots of historical mementoes around. I definitely recommend you eat there as much as possible and try all the amazing kinds of pizza they offer. The inn is a historical landmark, it has been around since the early 1900s and it used to have a real bear that you could give coca cola to drink, thus the name. The beds are cozy and everything is nice and clean. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. I definitely recommend you stay here!
