Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom With Queen Sized Sofa Bed

Hermanor Cottage was built in the 1830's and is a fine example of New Orleans Creole architecture. A beautiful, spacious front porch added in the early 1900's is both a welcoming feature and a wonderful place to sit with a cool drink and watch the quaint neighborhood go by. The location of Hermanor Cottage is both convenient and a bit off the beaten path. We are a few short blocks from the superb music, food and fun on FRENCHMEN STREET and only slightly further from the world-renowned FRENCH QUARTER. If you choose to arrive by car there is adequate parking on the street. The bus is right out front and cabs are readily available.

Our cottage apartment is professionally decorated in the traditional New Orleans style with original art and vintage pieces. The living room is charming and comfortable with a queen sized sofa bed and a 40' HD TV. The front room is furnished with a vintage oak table that can serve as a desk or a dining spot for up to 6 people. The fully furnished ,spacious kitchen has been recently renovated and has all new SS appliances. A round table seats 2 and a decorative fireplace add lots of quaint charm. Pick up some groceries at the nearby co-op and easily prepare a dinner at home. Several times a week MR. OKRA drives his colorful truck through the neighborhood offering fresh fruits and vegetables. His lilting song alerts all to his arrival!

our unique Marigny (pronounced Mare-i-nee) neighborhood has much to offer. Some of our favorite places are MIMI'S IN THE MARIGNY for great, live music, SCHIRO'S for take-out food and CAKE CAFE for fabulous breakfasts. All are just a block or two from the cottage. Several venues for live music are close by on the newly developed ST. CLAUDE corridor and include ALLWAYS LOUNGE, CAFE ISTANBUL, and SIBERIA.

My husband is a concierge and tour reservationist. We live right next door and are always available for fun, creative activity suggestions, restaurant recommendations and general hospitality. We guarantee a good time will be had by all at Hermanor Cottage! New Orleans Short Term Rental Permit # 17STR-05022

About Sara Hauge

My husband and I have been visiting New Orleans for over 20 years. This year we were finally able to fulfill our dream of moving here permanently from Minneapolis. We love the weather and the diversity of the colorful culture. We purchased a double shotgun cottage so we can share our love of this city with family ,friends and you!

Sara Hauge purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Sara Hauge chose World

We finally chose to live in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood because it is so interesting and eclectic and yet close to the French Quarter and the Frenchmen St. excitement.

What makes this apartment unique

Our cottage is unique because it has so many years of history that have not been erased by modern renovations. It is comfortable to modern standards yet maintains it's historic beauty and authenticity.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We came to NOLA for a long weekend for a wedding. This place was perfect. Close to the Quarter but very quiet. This is an up and coming neighborhood with great restaurants and coffee shops around each corner. We had multiple events to go to so had more clothes than we usually bring on vacation but there was plenty of closet space. Lots of room to relax and spread out. We had our little dog with us and he enjoyed the space and meeting Sara's dog Lulu. Could not have had a better host than Sara - no need was unmet. Would certainly stay here again if/when we come back.

One Great Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Once again, we had a great vacation while staying at Hermanor Cottage. This was our second time at the cottage and like the first time we found it a great experience. Tom and Sarah were very helpful, recommending restaurants and music venues. Tom even made reservations for us on a steamboat cruise and a tour of plantations. The cottage was clean, cozy and comfortable. We spent every morning having coffee on the front porch greeting the friendly neighbors.

It is a short four block walk to Frenchmen St. and its many music venues, the French Market and its many food and craft vendors and all the sights and sounds of the French Quarter.

However, you do not have to leave the Marigny to experience good restaurants, the positive vibes of local bars and attractions such as Crescent Park and St Roch Market.

We look forward to our next visit to New Orleans and Hermanor Cottage.

Wonderful shotgun house, beautifully decorated and much help from the owners. Ideal location for visiting French Quarter and other attractions. Would happily return at some point in the future.

The Only Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We could not ask for a better place to stay in New Orleans. Feels like home the minute you walk in the door, wonderful porch and courtyard! The neighbors will adopt you as part of their group. Sarah, Tom and Lulu are simply the best hosts. I can't wait to stay with them again next year!

Outstanding Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house in one of the city's best neighborhoods. Sara's attention to detail (as designer/decorator and host) made our extended stay in New Orleans delightful and worry free. The photos are representative of this beautiful home's exterior (great front porch, relaxing back courtyard) and interior (clean, tastefully decorated). If you are looking to immerse yourself in a memorable New Orleans experience I would absolutely recommend staying in this Marigny gem!

Charming and quaint Shotgun home

  • 5 of 5

I loved this quaint shotgun in Marigny! It was exactly what I pictured and wanted for my stay in New Orleans. I went to New Orleans for a nursing conference the beginning of the week, towards the end, my husband and mother-in-law met me. The home was spacious enough for the three of us. Very comfortable. We enjoyed the front porch and back yard and everything was furnished well and quite comfortable. I hardly needed to "Uber" anywhere. The location was excellent! It was a 10 min walk to the French Market street car and from there you can take that to the conference center as well as transfer to other street cars to take you all over New Orleans. I enjoyed the coffee house, Who Dat Coffee, which was a 2-3 min walk from the house. There is a co-op grocery market a couple of blocks away as well. It was a great location and safe area to walk from and to. Love this place and hopefully will stay there again in the near future.

Location

Car: not necessary

The Faubourg Marigny is a quaint, historic neighborhood just adjacent to the French Quarter. Once named the hippest neighborhood in the US by Travel and Leisure magazine the neighborhood is at once bohemian and traditional. Many unique privately owned bars and restaurants abound. Walkability is fabulous and the people are friendly. The historic nature of the area is a treasure to those interested in the architecture of the last 200 or so years.
