'The Cactus Patch' is a second story full apartment over our garage. 1 Bedroom with queen-size bed, a full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, and coffee-maker. Living room has 2 futons that fold out to double beds, flat-screen TV, Dish network, and WiFi. There is a half bath, and downstairs is a full bath with tub/shower as well as a washer and dryer. Central heat to keep you warm in the winter and Air Conditioning to keep you cool in the Summer. There is an outside deck that is perfect for watching the sunrise with your morning coffee. You can also sleep under the stars on the deck if you wish.
We share the front yard which is the perfect spot to enjoy the gorgeous Sunsets.
You will have covered parking for you car, truck, or bike.
We are on 10 acres 1/2 mile up a dirt road off of Hwy 62, and 1/2 mile below JTNP land, which means Great Views and not too many neighbors.
We allow small pets, and smoking is only allowed outside.
We have extensive knowledge of the area and would be glad to help you plan your days, but if privacy is what you want, then privacy is what you will get.
We are pet-friendly, biker-friendly, hiker-friendly, rockclimber-friendly, people-friendly and would love to have you stay at this true 'home away from home'.
We are bee-keepers and have bee-hives on the property. They usually don't sting unless you bother the hives, but you will see them out and about gathering pollen.
Some extras that we offer are:
We will do your grocery shopping for you and have it in the apartment when you arrive (for a 10 dollar fee) if you don't feel like spending a minute of your vacation grocery shopping.
And if you don't want to cook, but would like a 'dinner at home', we will cook dinner for you (priced from 20 to 40 dollars per person).
Thank you for considering 'The Cactus Patch'.
We are 'Desert Rats' at heart. We have lived in the desert most of our lives, and love this area. We love to travel and see other places, but we always come home to the desert.
Gayle Austin purchased this apartment in 2011
The reason we love this property is the amazing views. We are high enough up to see across the valley to Sunfair, and to have JTNP lands 1/2 mile behind us. The Stars, Sunrises, and Sunsets are unbelievably beautiful. Being on 10 acres, we have privacy and room to breathe.
Beauty 360 degrees around!
Tim and Lisa were such wonderful guests. They and their 2 boys were so respectful of our property. They left the apartment extremely clean, and well-taken care of. Lovely personalities and very friendly. They are what I imagine when I think about "dream guests". We would absolutely love to host this family again. Thank you Tim and Lisa and A and R.
Gayle and Tom were super friendly folks. The apartment felt very homey and we liked the Dr. Pepper collection. The outdoor deck has a great view of the mountains and the place was very quiet. The kitchen was well appointed, it has everything you would need to cook a meal and the bed was comfortable. We recommend this place wholeheartedly!
It's easy to get comfortable in this place. It has everything you'd desire. The spacious balcony is a real treat. Our hosts have thought of everything that makes the visit so pleasant. We would definitely return to such a peaceful property with friendly hosts.
We shared Gayle and Tom's property for four nights to visit Joshua Tree National Park. The space is large, private and very comfortable. Gayle and Tom add to the "homey" atmosphere by suggesting things to do and providing EVERYTHING necessary for living in a home. We have stayed in 40 - 50 VRBO properties; this was the best stocked home we have experienced containing everything from plastic bags, to-go coffee cups, hair dryer, and every possible cooking accessory imaginable. Sitting in in the hot tub while watching the desert sunset was a memorable experience. Thank you Tom and Gayle!
The house was extremely clean and well organized, the location was easy to find and access. The owners Gayle and Tom are wonderful people and the entire experience was delightful.
The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need, from water bottles for your hike into the desert to mugs in the freezer for a cold beverage when you return. Clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We enjoyed the proximity to Joshua Tree National Park and to the town of Joshua Tree, yet distance from the neighbors out in the desert. The cooking facilities and the laundry area were super.
Gayle and Tom are super hosts. We had a great stay.
Most people come to Joshua Tree to visit Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP), we also have murals and museums in 29 Palms, The Integratron and Gubler's orchids in Landers, Wildlife Sanctuary in Morongo Valley, Arts and Crafts galore in Joshua Tree, and museums and shopping in Yucca Valley.
JTNP and has hiking trails, rocks to climb, flora and fauna to view, and sights to see. There is a visitor center in Joshua Tree, and it is the west entrance to the Park.
Palm Springs is less than an hour away and is a mecca for food, shopping, spas, and sunning. The aerial tram in Palm Springs takes you one mile up Mount San Jacinto into a whole different world, 40 degrees cooler and lush trees and bushes, with snow in the winter.
