River front luxury log home, FISH RIGHT FROM THE HOUSE, 5 Bedroom/3 Bathroom

Our beautiful, custom log home, which we call The Caddis Shack, was completed in 2014. By no means a “shack” with 3800 sq. ft., with 4 bedrooms plus a loft bedroom, and 3 full bathrooms, on 3 levels. Sleeps 10.

We are located DIRECTLY on the Madison River on the best fly fishing section of the river! The home sits on a 1 acre parcel and is a short, scenic 25 minute drive to the West entrance to Yellowstone National Park. This is the perfect location for enjoying all the area has to offer.

We have furnished the home entirely with locally made custom log and barn wood furniture, and great quality mattresses, soft linens and premium cookware. The interior walls are well insulated for sound and keeps the home quiet and private from room to room.

Fish the legendary rivers of the Madison, the Gallatin, the Yellowstone, the Firehole the Gibbon and the Henry's Fork all from one destination. If you prefer lakes, Hebgen lake, Quake lake, Henry's lake, Cliff and Wade lakes are minutes away.


The main level has a master bedroom suite with private bathroom, 2 additional bedrooms and a bathroom. Also on the main level is the entry, dining room, kitchen and great room. The loft has a queen bedroom. The lower level, walkout basement, is a large unfinished area. A Second master suite with full bathroom is under construction in the lower level, ready for 2018. (The bathroom and bed are there now, but sleeping area and walls need to be finished, please see pictures for better visual description) Our home sits on a 1 acre parcel right on the river.


Spacious, fully equipped modern kitchen with quartz counter tops, knotty alder cabinets, under cabinet lighting and stainless steel appliances including trash compactor. There is a nice propane Weber Genesis grill on the deck for your use including all the grilling utensils needed. There are plenty of small appliances such as crock pot, blender, Cuisinart food processor, rice cooker and coffee grinder. We have provided two small 28 qt. coolers and blue ice packs to use during your stay for picnics and trips to the market.


Beautiful great room has 21 ft. tall ceilings, large elk antler chandelier and free-standing gas stove fireplace with river rock surround and hearth. There is plenty of comfortable seating offering space for everyone to stretch out and relax. There is a large 65' LCD flat screen TV with Direct TV, Bluetooth surround sound and Apple TV. Open the dual 6ft sliding glass doors and hear the sounds of the river.

MASTER BEDROOM has a Cal-King bed, private bathroom and a 6ft sliding glass door opens to a deck over-looking the river. 58' LCD flat screen television in room, electric fireplace to provide a little extra warmth and ambiance as well.

GUEST BEDROOM #2 has a Cal-King size log bed and rustic log furniture theme. 50' flat LCD television in room. faces the river and has it's own sliding glass door to the deck over-looking the river.

GUEST BEDROOM #3 has Two twin rustic log beds, log furniture and 37' LCD flat screen television, view of the continental divide range and river.

GUEST BEDROOM #4 is the loft with queen bed, Rustic barn wood with tin themed furniture.

GUEST BEDROOM #5 Lower level

(Spring of 2018 this will become a 2nd master suite with queen bed and attached bathroom)

Here in the lower level you will find an area to stage all your fishing gear, rods and waders. This is an unfinished space with a concrete floor and outdoor carpet remnants. Our guests love the indoor area for changing at night or rainy weather, no need to worry about bringing water and dirt inside. We have provided wader hooks, rod holders, big tables for packs/clothing/rod set up, and chairs to sit in while getting in/out of waders and boots. Just outside is bench for changing, hooks for waders and a hose to wash off.


A large rear deck overlooks the river and runs the full length of the house. There is a table and chairs with a propane Weber Genesis gas grill (extra propane provided, you will not run out).

Bald Eagles, Osprey, Red Tail Hawks and sometimes Golden Eagles, fly overhead as they glide up and down the river. You will also see Pronghorn, deer, moose, river otters, beaver, and red fox near the house. Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats and Elk roam on the mountains above and can sometimes be seen coming down across the river.


There is a rock fire pit down by the river with 6 adirondack chairs to enjoy the stars and s'mores together. Firewood and marshmallow sticks provided.


*High-speed Wireless Internet service is included.

*USB Outlets in living room with multiple outlets for charging everyone's must-have electronic devices.

*House has forced-air heat system and additional electric foot heaters under cabinets in the bathrooms and at the kitchen island.

*NO air conditioning and you won't need it. There are ceiling fans in all rooms.

*Local phone calls only.

*TWO SETS of high efficiency washer/dryers for convenience. Soap/dryer sheets provided.

I needed a break from reality and I can't think of a better place to have accomplished this. The house was amazing. Everything you need is provided for you. My husband and I and our adult kids just had one of the best vacations of our lives. Such beautiful scenery at every turn. We did not want to leave! Will definitely be returning. We love you Montana and The Caddis Shack! Thanks for life time memories!

The Caddis Shack was the perfect place to get away from the bustle of city life. It had all of the amenities one could ask for while having great views of the Madison river. It was also perfectly located for a day trip into Yellowstone. Would definetly stay here again.

Amazing place

The caddis shack was a suprisingly spacious house right on the Madison river. The view of the sunset from the back porch was breath taking. Getting to Yellowstone was a breeze and every local I talked to seemed to have nothing but good things to say about the owners. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful property!!!

My husband and I and our two Granddaughters, ages 13 & 14, spent a fablous week enjoying this beautiful home. The owners have thought about everything from any gadget you might need in the kitchen, the most comfortable beds I have experienced in any property we have stayed in, great washer and dryer and the TV's! The space was unbelievable......we didn't even use the loft or the lower level space and still had plenty of room. The deck over looking the Madison River was the place my husband and I loved to sit and just take in our surroundings. The sound of the river and sitting to watch the sun sets will forever be in our memories. Thanks to Kathy, the property manager for all of her assistance in making this a great experience for all of us. Also, Samatha, the owner, for her kindness in letting me know she found one of the Granddaughter's new Yellowstone shirt, and will be mailing it to me! It was a great experience from beginning to end!

Amazing family vacation in a beautiful home!!

The Caddis Shack is a beautiful log home right on the Madison River. The owners have thought of every detail from binoculars and the Audubon Field Guide to Birds, to toddler plates and cups to the most comfortable beds. We barbqued and ate on the deck almost every night but we had a difficult time reading the books we brought because we kept staring at amazing view! Randy and Sam's suggestions for places to eat and river guides were spot on. Our son was fly fishing like a pro by the end of the trip (thanks to Madison River Outfitters and Rick Welle)! We didn't want to leave so We have already booked our trip for next year!!

Why Kathy Looney chose West Yellowstone

We have been coming to fish the Madison River since 2000. Over the years we have stayed in motels in West Yellowstone, brought our RV to West Yellowstone and rented homes along the river. We really wanted to have a home on the right water and offer it as a rental to others coming here. In 2012, we were able to buy this lot and finished building our custom log home in 2014. So much thought has gone into making this the best rental around. We used our experience as guests ourselves and provided what we felt all the others were missing. We want you to enjoy our home with family and friends, feel at peace listening to the river and taking in all Montana has to offer. It's the perfect getaway spot!!

What makes this house unique

Fish right from this river front home. Gorgeous Montana furnishings and feels like home. Close to the Park and many other local towns, rivers and lakes.

We enjoyed every second of our time here. The house is beautiful, the scenery is amazing! You made the house so inviting and perfect! I really hope we can visit again! We appreciated all the little things, you've supplied all that is needed. It's so cozy. The beds are comfy, love the big screen tv's, the deck is my favorite, especially in the mornings around 7:-7:30, the Bald Eagle that cruises by.

Our Madison River front home is centrally located to many activities. 30 Miles to Yellowstone Park and the town of West Yellowstone. The town of Ennis is 40 miles to the North. Both towns offer grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, fly shops and guide service, tourist information, medical care and pharmacy. Henry's Lake is 13 miles away.

No smoking - please be considerate of homeowner and other non-smoking guests. If it is discovered that smoking has occurred, you will forfeit your deposit and be liable for cleaning all drapes and carpets at a cost beyond standard deposit.

No pets - unless on approval by homeowners under certain circumstances only.


A 50% deposit is required to secure a reservation within 7 days of booking. In case of a cancellation, the deposit is fully refundable less a $100.00 processing fee, if the written cancellation is received prior to 90 days of arrival. For cancellations within 90 – 60 days of arrival, 50% of the deposit will be retained unless we are able to rebook the rental. If a cancellation is made within 60 days of arrival, no refund will be made unless we are able to rebook the rental.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
