Great friendly hosts will welcome you in English, German, French or Finnish and with a nice bottle of California wine.
We are Carmen and Elmar. We like to share time with friends, enjoy music and we love to travel. A few years ago we discovered VRBO, rented places all over Europe and the Middle East and decided we could be hosts as well since we know from our own experience what visitors need and want.
Our day jobs? Carmen is a teacher working at the University of Southern California. Elmar is a journalist specialized in film (that's why our guests can enjoy an extensive movie library).
Having lived in many countries before we settled in beautiful Southern California we always find it interesting to meet new people from all kinds of backgrounds, generations and cultures.
And we try to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as we would like to feel whenever we are guests.
Elmar purchased this apartment in 2001
Wonderful property in the Hollywood Hills. Quiet comfort off the main drag but close to everything. Elmar and Carmen were extremely accommodating. A recent leg injury made things challenging for me, but Elmar made it work. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
This apartment was exactly as described! The home was beautiful, and the views were amazing. We loved that we could cook ourselves meals with the kitchen appliances provided, watch movies from the extensive collection, and sit out on the balcony to read. Very relaxing!
We came to Hollywood specifically for a John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and chose this location because it seemed like a reasonable distance to walk. While we could have walked to and from, we had a great conversation with the homeowner about where best to park downhill to avoid a strenuous uphill walk on the way back. She even hand drew us a map and gave us advice on how to get to the Bowl. So helpful!
Parking was surprisingly not an issue even though the home is in the hillier neighborhood area of Hollywood. Only one instance were we not able to find a street spot on the same street as the house and had to park just downhill in another neighborhood. Not too stressful!
Thank you for a great experience and visit to Hollywood - one of our best trips yet!
The perfect base for exploring all the best places in Los Angeles. Loved the decor, the balcony and all the amenities offered as part of the rental. Thanks Elmar!
The property is perched on the Hollywood Hills, overlooking Hollywood and one can see all the way to the twin towers in Century city and Fox plaza - "Nakatomi" Plaza, the building used for the movie "Die Hard." Sunsets here are magical and EVERYTHING is within a short drive. The place has its own private driveway with safe and easy street parking. The apartment is filled with movie industry memorabilia, and most of it is dedicated to the owner, so, no nameless autographs, but everything here like a movie promotional poster of the movie "Last Vegas" with Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro and Kevin Kline is signed by the actors for the host. We were looking through some art books, and came upon one for Frida Khalo, and what do you know, but a signed picture of Salma Hayek thanking the host for his support through the years fell out of it, one can tell he has been a Hollywood insider for a while and the place reflects that. The apartment is exquisitely decorated, WiFi, cable, and all other amenities, advertised EXACTLY as it is... no surprises... What a beautiful property to enjoy at any time of the day. Quiet... very quiet, which was completely unexpected in a place in the heart of Hollywood. We will definitively stay with them again whenever we come to So. Cali.
I travel to LA often and usually stay with friends or in hotels, but for this trip, I decided to roll the dice and stay here for 9 nights. I'm so glad I did, the apartment was great, with beautiful sunsets, an incredibly charming, quiet, clean and comfortable place to live/work/sleep. The hosts were fantastic and incredibly accommodating. It's a short walk to great neighborhood restaurants and bars, or up the hills for a beautiful hike around the Hollywood reservoir. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for anybody looking for a place to stay in Los Angeles.
Stayed here from Australia. What a lovely gem. My partner and I were pleased with the owners and accommodation. Came and left as we pleased. Neighbors/street not rowdy. Peaceful. The cottage inside feels like old time Hollywood. Loved it. Close to it all.
From your apartment you can overlook Hollywood with the Hollywood/Highland Complex (annual OSCAR Gala). You are in walking distance to the Walk Of Fame, the Hollywood Bowl, short distance by car to Universal Studio, Paramount, Musso & Frank's (Oldest Restaurant in Hollywood - since 1919 serves the best Martinis in town). Restaurant Row on nearby Franklin Avenue is THE meeting place for Young Hollywood.
Even if you're not in town for 'Hollywood', the location is very central: 15 min to Downtown, 5 min to bus station, 15 min walk to subway (Metrolink), direct Freeway access to Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Culver City, Burbank, etc.
And for your fitness needs: Our neighborhood borders on the huge Griffith Park with hiking paths at the Bronson Caves or at the Ferndell Park just minutes away. Trips to mountain biking in Griffith Park, jogging around Lake Hollywood or horseback riding at the Sunset Ranch are shorter than you can sing Randy Newman's 'I Love LA'.
