About the property

Refurbished stone house for hikers and families with children and/or pets

Casa Borgo in the hamlet Tonno in the untouched Brevenna valley, 40 kilometers far from the cultural melting pot Genoa and the seaside, is the right place for those ho really want to relax. Pure nature as a balm for spirit and soul. The archaic atmosphere of this village will have surely effect on you. Casa Borgo, the former village school, has been restored respecting the old, architectonical features and now offers all comforts. Thus the former barn became a rustic kitchen, the school rooms two bedrooms. A large roof terrace invites to sunbathing and panoramic views around the green Brevenna valley.

Discover a world of yesterday ...: I have to confess, Casa Borgo is not the right place for shopping- and computer-addicted people or those who think Italy that means VIPs and glamorous lifestyle. But just do it as Casa Borgo´s owner. Avoid for a while any phone ringing and traffic noise. Get rid of your usual multitasking and concentrate on a contemplative dolce far niente. Start your holiday in Casa Borgo with a walk to the source 'Moia' with ‘healing water’, used for centuries by the locals. But no fear: the village also has a direct water supply. Meet the locals at the church square, which is now a meadow with a children's playground, because pastor Don Stefano from the 20 km distant Savignone celebrates mess only once a month.

Amidst unspoilt nature ...: Tonno in the nature park Monte Antola is the ideal starting point for hiking- tours. A must is the climb to Monte Antola (1,500 m). On the way back you stop at Elio and Laura´s, a young couple that lives totally self-sufficient in a deserted village and will prepare delicious dishes for you.

Hot minded people will find slowdown in the cool waters of the torrent Brevenna. Who loves adrenaline kicks, tries free climbing in the nearby Reopasso rocks. Explore also the scattered villages of the Brevenna valley, the frescoes from the 15th century in Mereta or the Farmers Culture Museum in Senarega. A return to civilization (such as a day trip into the cultural metropolis Genoa) should be made with the old Casella train.

The neighbourhood to the region Piedmont, known for wine and trufle, is ideal for daily escursions such as Gavi and the Langhe around Acqui Terme.

With culinary highlights and all comfort: For passionate cooks Casa Borgo offers the 'devices' and the organically grown ingredients of the Brevenna valley.

Corrado in Tonno supplies you with fresh bread and vegetables from his orchard, zou can get dairy cheese in Nenno, organic meat from the butcher in Ternano, bread and pastry from the organic bakery in Avosso. There is also a well-equipped supermarket. What you miss in between, you will buy in the Alimentari in Molino Vecchio with daily newspapers. In Molino Vecchio you find also a pharmacy and a restaurant-pizzeria-bar that sells cigarettes.

And don´t miss the 5-course menu in 'Il Camminetto' in Nenno for a reasonable price under a romantic pergola or inside in front of the fireplace.

The windows of Casa Borgo are made of Isoglas so that no warmth will get lost. Typical of the village and a requirement of the strict land protection regulations within the nature park are the brown wooden shutters and exterior wood doors. Inside you will be delighted about the rustic country house furniture and about the many 200 year-old farmer tools, that having been found in the former stables, now are exposed decoratively on the walls.

Reines Naturerlebnis in absoluter Stille

  • 5 of 5

In vollkommener Ruhe vom Alltag entspannen.

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

The hamlet Tonno (918 m) is at the end of the Brevenna valley below Monte Antola in a huge nature park about 40 km from Genoa and at the border between the region Liguria and Piemont. Approaching Tonno you can get a first impression of the archaic and untouched landscape bordering the torrent Brevenna, that locals use as an alternative to swimming in the sea. A well-maintained road takes you in just 30 minutes from the noisy civilization into a silence to which the ears of stressed city commuters have yet to get used. Tonno is also ideal for families with children. While the parents take it easy of sunbathing on the roof terrace of Casa Borgo, the youngsters go to the playground in front of the church. Hikers can climb in two hours directly from Tonno on marked paths up to Monte Antola. Who loves it more easy, can reach in 20 minutes small lakes with waterfalls and spend there - equipped with a picnic basket - the day just doing nothing.

Other Activities: Freeclimbing, Footing, Canyoning
