Yoga teacher, design enthusiast and world traveler born and raised in Los Angeles! I love managing this property on behalf of my family.
I love being active...yoga, pilates, or hiking daily is a must! I have traveled to over forty countries, and can't wait for my next adventure. My favorites are India, Syria and Thailand.
I'm extremely organized, dependable and detail-oriented so rest assured I'll make sure you stay goes well. I'll be easily reachable throughout your stay should something arise.
My family has owned this property for over 20 years. Prior to that, it was owned by a close family friend. My family has lived in the area since the early 1900s.
Everyone who steps foot in this house falls in love. It has more character and charm than any house I've seen. Having been built by a famous Hollywood set designer, many of the pieces in the home are parts from old Hollywood movies.
We really enjoyed this property it is exactly what is described - a 1930's seaside retreat. Well maintained, Very clean, beds are in good condition. great water pressure, no A/C. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating areas. The only minor improvements I would suggest are to update bath towels, provide beach towels and beach chairs. The only major complaint - the living room couches and chairs should have been replaced long ago, made the living room unusable.
We had four adults and five children staying in the house and there was plenty of space for everyone. The house is the last one on its street and has wonderful views of the ocean and convenient beach access (about a 10-minute walk down a residential street, a few series of steep staircases and across a bridge over the highway). The beach was uncrowded and had a lifeguard station that was staffed during the day. There are grocery stores nearby and it was easy to get to places in L.A. The Getty Villa is also only a mile away.
Our family really enjoyed the house with its unusual layout and interesting decor. There is no central area in which a large group can dine together, but if you don't mind sitting in two different areas it was fine. There are numerous outdoor patios which were fun to access and the views from all the rooms were wonderful. There was always a nice breeze from the ocean so no air conditioning was needed. A great house for a family vacation.
John was a great host. Quick with responses, not a single problem. The house itself is a gem. Tons of character with unique living spaces. Every room is unique. Great for multiple couples/families who appreciate their own living area (and own bathroom) with a central common area. Close to a lot of attractions and a short 5 minute walk to the beach. Parking is limited so it's best to carpool if possible.
This place is so cool!
It's an adventure in and of its self!
So much better than the photos, really must see it to believe it. It was a weekend in wonderland. Thank you John!!
My family and I like to do little get away a every once in a while. This home was exceptional. Beautiful views, unique interior, and a wonderful host. I definitely recommend this home for anyone.
Property was unique and interesting. Very picturesque. Bathrooms and some of the bedrooms were nicely upgraded from the 1920s construction. The location was popular with my group.
However, must admit I have several complaints.
At the last minute the price was substantially increased over the published price. The house is not worth what I had to pay for it. If the owner publishes a price, he should stick with it.
Many of the rooms were dusty and dirty; the windows were dirty, interfering with the nice views. Not enough cleaning equipment and supplies -- would have appreciated a vacuum cleaner for the living room, more broom, etc.
The furniture in the living room should be discarded.
Lighting was quite dim in many rooms.
Having no central heating, the property relies on space heaters; uncomfortable in the winter!
I shan’t rent this house again.
The house is in the upscale residential community of Pacific Palisades. It's conveniently located just five minutes away from Santa Monica with the pier and 3rd Street Promenade shops/restaurants. Continue south a few minutes form Santa Monica to reach Venice Beach and the famous Boardwalk. Take Sunset Boulevard into Beverly Hills/West Hollywood/Hollywood (20-40 minutes) or drive just a couple miles north to Malibu. There's a grocery store VERY close to the house...about 1/4 mile away. It's also about 1/4 mile away from the Self Realization Fellowship spiritual center and the original Getty Museum.
