About Nancy McCarthy

We are empty-nesters who greatly enjoy the Breckenridge area. Leo is an avid snow-boarder, hiker and biker. Nancy likes the snow and small-town feel, as well as the great location. We hail from Missouri and have been married for 32 years now. We both attended college at Southwest Missouri State University (that is where we met). We run a couple of businesses back in Missouri and are now venturing into the mountains.

Why Nancy McCarthy chose Historic District

Leo fell in love with this property the first time he saw it! Although it is only two blocks from downtown, it is fairly secluded on the 1/2 acre wooded lot. The home is perfect for us since it has both the Main House and the Apartment. Our children all love the Breckenridge area and love snow-boarding as well. For many years we visited (rented) and when this property became available, we decided to take the plunge and purchase a home in Breckenridge.

PERFECT Location, AMAZING views, COZY home, and WONDERFUL hot tub!

Our group of 11 LOVED this house! We were a crew of college friends (graduated more than 5 years ago) reuniting from around the country for our annual ski trip. You're located a block from the free bus to the mountain and around Breck, only a few blocks to main street, and walking distance to the transit center and gondola! Views of the mountain were stunning, we loved watching the groomers light up the hill at night. Hot tub was amazing with gorgeous views. Plenty of rooms and space for our group in the home and the beds were comfy. The home is a tad outdated, but that doesn't really matter when you're there to ski - it's still a beautiful, comfortable home. The square footage of the home is plentiful but a bit deceiving as the layout is a bit funky and much of the space is unusable. However, perfect amount of space for 12 people. Our only bummer was we couldn't find wood for the fireplace - we also didn't ask, so does not reflect on management whatsoever. The owner was in the apartment next door and didn't seem to mind our liveliness, so don't let that deter your decision to stay. Would stay again and recommend!

Lots of personality, beautiful house, management company was lacking in customer support.

The house itself was beautiful. The views are to die for. Incredibly warm, floors felt heated. Beds in the community/common areas were rather broken down (futon and pull out in basement much left to be desired in comfort). Communication between owner and management company was very quick when the owner wanted something but when I called to ask questions/acquire information I was mostly brushed under the rug. Person who answered the phone very clearly didn't even go check the database to followup and it was very clear there wasn't much communication in the office. Suggest renting both the house and second unit if you don't want a stranger hanging around, though Leo and his pup were very nice... we had clearance to bring our pups and didn't expect another to be present. Luckily our pups love other pups but it would have been rather outputting had they not gotten along. We even tried to clarify multiple times if we should expect someone in the unit and again, multiple times (both before and during our stay) we were either underinformed OR misinformed. Max cars allowed in drive is 4 or 5 which isn't a problem when all occupants are traveling without cars but 15 people in 5 cars with gear and pups and so on is a challenge and would have been great information to have before our journey. House has nice little fenced in yard for pups, that was nice. Pots and Pans are older, some rusting, so if possible I would suggest bringing your own - specifically large sauce pots. Bedrooms are all pretty nice, beds themselves are comfortable. Handle on middle floor toilet often liked to spin and not flush but eventually would work. Easy walk to town and the resort, shuttle ran often; plenty of resources and entertainment nearby. Private house, unless the owner or his friends decides to come hang at the attached apartment (so like I said, get the second unit if your family really wants their true privacy). Would have given 5 stars had communication been better between management company and myself in terms of occupants in the house, mostly because it's nice to know when you're expecting a stranger and his pup to share space with you. Luckily, we had a great time and would consider the house again if the management company changed or we opted to rent the full property.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Sorry to hear you were disappointed with other aspects. I wish you had contacted me during your stay to discuss issues. Think we could have cleared up most if not all of your concerns if we had known about them at the time. Now, to address your concerns. We have 16 sleeping spaces - the futon is not one of them. With regard to the sofa sleeper, its a sofa sleeper. Communication -from everything I see in my records, I promptly responded to any questions you had. I am not sure what communication you had with property managers; I will check into this. Dogs - you did not have clearance to bring your pups. You had tentative approval. Your reservation was for one pet ($50). When I asked about the type of pet, you said there could be as many as 4 dogs but you would let me know final count. I responded "...not sure about the number of dogs. As...you know who is coming let's take a look at that again. I don't want to have too many dogs in the house!" You never responded. I asked again on Feb 12 "...see that we never resolved the number of pets - I would really like to keep it at two." Again no response. Apartment - you did not ask me about the apartment. If you had, I would have told you that my husband would be there. My husband keeps a very low profile when guests are in the house; you might see him coming or going but other than that he stays out of sight - he does not use common areas such as deck or hot tub. You intimate he had friends over. That is not true. There may have been contractors on site as we have several that provide services at the house: hot tub maintenance, snow removal, HVAC, property managers, etc. Vehicles - our rental agreement clearly states you are allowed 4 vehicles. It states "There is parking for four vehicles - two in the garage and two in front of the two-car garage (park under the deck)." To avoid any confusion in the future, I will reiterate in initial emails with guests that only 4 vehicles are allowed. Overflow parking is available in the public parking lot on Airport Road ($5 a day). Pots & pans - I am surprised about this comment. We generally receive good remarks on kitchen. We have large stock pots, pans, crockpots, roaster pans, mixing bowls, baking dishes, plus lots of plates, glasses and silverware. We annually inspect and replace damaged or broken/missing items. Toilet - we will certainly look into & repair the malfunctioning toilet handle.
