Would stay elsewhere

  • 2 of 5

We rented in week 12 of the Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament, and I supposed in retrospect we should have known that the house would've seen 11 weeks of "abuse." Two walls were hastily spackled and looked terrible. Quite a bit of the home looked like it was hastily reconstructed and very poorly done. The biggest issue we had was that the water was a murky brown. Forget about drinking it, most of us were afraid to shower in it. Calls to the landlord were generally unanswered, and did nothing about any of the issues we had.

I had seen a number of reviews about the landlord being difficult to work with, but figured most renters were just whining. Not the case. I would not rent from Chris again. *As per a few other reviews, only got my damage waiver back when I reached out to find out where it was...

Owner's Response: I sincerely apologize for any convenience you may have experienced. Due to the weather this season, the water from the well ran cloudy for a few weeks. We have since resolved the problem and added additional filtration systems to our water supply. It was not a situation I could get corrected during your stay as I had to arrange for service and order equipment. I did respond to your calls, was just unable to solve the issue during your stay. The water was safe and is tested every year. It was safe for showers as well, it was just a little cloudy. Thank you for your review.

Great location, nice house. Beds a tad uncomfortable but overall a good choice.

Owner is friendly and responsive, but didn't pay his internet bill so no wifi the last day.

I'm sure it was a mixup, so I would rent from him again for the Dreams Park tournament. Halfway between the HOF and the park - 5 min drive to both.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, I appreciate it. The internet bill was paid, it was an equipment failure on the part of the provider. I look forward to you staying with us again.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

  • 2 of 5

The photos of this house are beautiful and the space is wonderful, but it is very poor construction. The hard wood floors in the kitchen are bubbling making it a tripping hazard. The ceiling in the kitchen leaks from the upstairs bathroom. By the end of our 3 day rental, the water was yellow - disgusting. Again, location was great to Cooperstown, but getting back to the house was an issue since the address the owner provides takes you to the wrong house?! He needs to give out the correct address. We were there for a wedding and brought our young kids who were so excited to swim in the heated pool - well we turned it on and two days later the temperature went from 63 to 70 degrees - in two days!!! Not truly a heated pool. Also, beds are extremely uncomfortable and towels provided were old and need to be replaced - bring your own towels. There was no shade in one of the rooms and spider webs in all rooms.

Overall, the place needs a major upgrade! And needs to be better maintained. A great location and a lot of space, if you don't mind yellow water, wrong address, missing shades and very uncomfortable beds!

Irresponsible & suspected fraud owner

  • 1 of 5

The house itself has no problem. But our group has a very bad experience with the owner. On the date we supposed to travel on Nov 24th, the owner claimed that he cancelled my reservation by mistake and requested me to "re-book" the trip again. Ended up he double charged. I asked for the refund almost everyday, he said he has trouble with the site, and said he will do the refund, but never tell me when, even I asked everyday. I read a previous review for this listing, another person also has a problem with the refund, and it took more than a month to get the money back. Same issue happened to me. That makes our group has a very bad experience.

Great house in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during my son's Cooperstown trip. The house was just as noted in the details and Chris is always available by text. (Google maps give the correct address which is about 2miles NW of the intersection of 26/28). The house is 7 minutes from both downtown Cooperstown and Dreams Park.

The pool is clean and the yard is spacious. I would greatly recommend this house or sharing it with another family in lieu of a smaller older home. It has two masters with three other bedrooms and two baths.

The house contains pretty much everything and anything else can be bought at the Price Chopper 4 miles away.

Proceed with caution

  • 2 of 5

I booked this house for a group traveling from Texas to play 3 baseball games at historic DoubleDay field. The house is a new construction 5 bedroom house with a big living room and yard situated close to the village of Cooperstown.

The Good:

- House is new

- Cooperstown is great and has plenty to do (this was my 4th year in a row, 1st attempt to stay at this property)

- House is equipped with a good amount of utentsils, pots/pans, plates, coffee, towels, etc.

- Easy to get to with circular drive

The bad:

- Google Maps has the address off by about 5 miles, be careful using the maps to get here

- Very little instruction or communication with the property owner, when you get to the property you should find an instruction sheet on the piano for wifi access and keypad for access to the front door. No mention of how to leave it such as strip sheets, pile towels, it appears to be pretty relaxed but unfortunately this leaves a lot up to interpretation.

- Biggest issue is there is no indication of how long before you can expect a return of your refundable deposit. I was overcharged by $25/day on my invoice which is due BEFORE a stay (imagine if Hilton could get away with customers paying prior to even staying as well as paying a deposit). It's been a month, I've tried to get my deposit and overpay refunded and was told it was sent out 2 weeks ago. You will have to initiate all communication if you wish to get any money back.

Bottom line: 2 Stars because the location is a positive but the hassle far outweighs the benefits. Any money you provide, expect to work to get it back (still hoping/waiting myself) as the owner will not be contacting you to let you know if/when you will be refunded. I wouldn't provide any money you expect to get back. I've stayed the previous 3 years and none of those locations (all found on VRBO) required full payment plus deposit so you can probably find lodging with more reliable terms in the area. I would not recommend this property or the other 2 this owner apparently has to anyone I know traveling to the area. There are simply other well managed properties in the area. As of now I'm out over $400, hoping to see it but the hassle isn't worth it in my opinion. Good luck to all who find this review.
