My family has been coming up to lake placid to climb a few of the 46 peaks each year, but normally we stay in hotels. This year we decided to branch out and try a rental home, and we specifically loved this one because of its proximate location to town, the hot tub, the pool table, and the private beach rights. When we arrived there was a welcome letter and a box of chocolates waiting for us which the kids enjoyed very much. The house had a cozy feel with comfortable oversized furniture in an Adirondack style. After we got back each day from climbing, we would relax in the hot tub or by the fireplace, and then travel outdoors to sit by the beach or walk to town. This truly was the best experience we've had as a family coming up here all these years. Looking forward to staying here next year and climbing Marcy!
We stayed over the Columbus Day weekend for a 50th anniversary celebration. There were 16 of us across three generations and we had a great time.
Some highlights: ++3 distinct sleeping zones, which keeps people from feeling like they are on top of one another, ++large common areas ++high quality kitchen appliances and utensils (not typically the case in rental houses) ++comfortable beds ++nice hot tub ++convenient location walking distance to town ++athletic fields at a school right across the street, ++plenty of towels. On the downside it was a little odd that there was not much toilet paper, and there was no soap or shampoo. Small things, but just make sure you're prepared.
Overall this lodge is highly recommended. Enjoy!
My buddies and I decided to take some time off before things started up again after Labor Day, and we almost didn't go home! This place is simply awesome, affording every convienence that one could want at home combined with a location that should be used for movie shoots. We traveled as light as we could, flying into Albany and then renting an SUV ( at weekend rates!), and made the scenic 2 hour drive up to Placid. The rooms were large and comfortable, with beds that were perfect facilitators for one of the best night's sleep I have ever experienced. When we got into Placid, we made a short stop at a grocery store and stocked up with all the necessities, which later came in handy in the well-stocked, modern and pragmatic kitchen. We had wireless internet and satellite TV...everything was working and well maintained ( a factor that often is overlooked, and can make a great place feel rather frustrating when things aren't working like they should.)
The owner made the payment transaction about as easy as ordering a pizza, and she was extremely helpful with ideas about where to go ( downtown Placid has just the right amount of nightlife- not overwhelmingly in your face, i.e., Daytona Beach, but not sparse in any sense. They even have a great 1920s-style architecture movie theater that shows the current runs at a price that reminds me of the 1990s!
Lastly, the setting of this lodge is spectacular. The late summer nights were temperate and the serenity afforded by the Adirondacks was almost awe inspiring- especially the nighttime skies, which come alive without the hinderence of urban sprawl light-pollution. Overall, just fantastic. I have been there three times during three different seasons, and still manage to find new facets to the essences contained in this wooded sanctuary. Wildlife, botany, fishing, hiking- it's all there and all for free! Highly, highly recommended!!!!
First time staying here. A short walk to Lake Placid Pub and the village, close to all golf courses and in a very private setting. Huge decks great for grilling and relaxing. House big enough for 16 guys with ample room for all. Kitchen was perfect to hold all of us, and if it was tight some could filter out onto the back deck. I would definitely stay here again next year for another golf trip. One of the best rentals we have ever used!
