We have been married for 14 years and AZ residents for many years. I have been a hunting and fishing guide for over 20 years. We love Payson, AZ because of the friendly people and the fact that there are so many activities available all year round. Some of the things our family enjoys are: spending time at the nearby lakes, hunting, hiking, biking, swimming, shopping, and camping.

Payson, AZ is a GREAT place to live & work and a lot of fun to visit! It is clean, safe and has wonderful activities, from hiking and sight seeing to hunting and fishing, it is an outdoor enthusiast' paradise! We hope you'll come experience what we have to offer!
This property is unique and charming with its beautiful mountain views and spacious 3 acre lot, it is quiet and peaceful with seasonal creek nearby and available quad trails right from the yard. It has a cute porch swing perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the sun rise over the Mazatzal mountains. We are on-site owners who are available to you if you need anything but stay out-of-the-way if you don't. Our guests' have the best of both worlds; Complete privacy but the confidence of knowing that we are available to answer questions or address any of their traveling needs.
For our first stay in Arizona for the month of February, this was a wonderful accommodation and the proprietors were very helpful. The house is small but has most of what you need for a "home away from home". Especially enjoyed the hot tub following our daily hikes.
We were concerned about weather for February being in the "mountain" area (3000 ft Elevation) but had no problems. 10 mile drive to Payson for any shopping needs was nice option. Really loved the area because of the easy access to highway, trails and shopping.
Highly recommend staying at this charming cabin and we will be back.
The property was rented for a long weekend to escape the city and find some quiet time. Everything was perfect and Mark was quick to respond to anything we needed. The house is well equipped and the hot tub was perfect!
Plenty of space for 4 adults, great views and great location. Perfect weekend!
Highlights of our stay include:
~ Location of the creek at the end of the driveway -- provided hours of excitement for the entire family, our German Shepard puppy had no idea this kind of paradise existed until we got here.
~ Mountain views out every window -- just breath-taking, they're SO CLOSE.
~ Open ranch land in every direction -- picture perfect but NO SMELL.
~ Wooded forest surrounding the ranches -- just in front of the mountains...it's REALLY COOL.
~ Fire Pit out front -- gathering our own kindling and firewood on the property to building the fire was more fun for the kids than I could have ever imagined. Teaching WORK ETHIC: "You DON'T gather wood/you DON'T eat hotdogs and s'mores" was invaluable. 🤔 And for me it brought back warm memories of being raised on the farm.
~ Only two close neighbors -- one cabin was vacant and the other had kids our children enjoyed playing with, really nice family.
~ Mark was attentive to our needs once we arrived and response time was just minutes. He was also extremely accommodating to our children's interests and enjoyment.
Some disappointments we hadn't anticipated:
~ Hot Tub was under maintenance during our stay, the Spa Guy was out here twice...we believe this will NOT be allowed to occur with future guests. Mark was quite concerned and apologetic.
~ Bedrooms are in need of new mattresses (suggestion: MEMORY FOAM--10 YEAR WARRANTY).
The back bed is firmer than the master, so our first morning we switched rooms with the children. Not so fun getting such poor sleep...our back / shoulders were sore each morning. We can't wait to return to our memory foam.
~ Wifi at first was unavailable, but by day 3 we had no problem.
~ Mold smell in the back bedroom was pretty strong by our final morning, it has outdoor access to the hot tub. (suggestion: IN-FLOOR HEATING WITH HARD SURFACE FLOORING... eliminating moisture from remaining in the carpets' under pad.)
The HIGHLIGHTS well-outweighed the disappointments. Thus: 4 STARS.
We highly recommend staying here at the Colt Cabin.
Mark will MAKE RIGHT any wrongs he sees fit, guaranteed.
Our family will be back upon our return to Payson.
Was very clean and peaceful. Provided most necessities and were very helpful when asked questions. We had a wonderful time and will definitely consider coming back
