My wife Nancy and I, William, live in Polk City, Florida. Nancy is from New Jersey and I was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. We met at the First Baptist Church in West Hollywood, Florida.
I served four years in the Air Force. Nancy and I attended the Bible Baptist Seminary now known as Arlington Baptist College in Arlington, Texas. Here we studied for the ministry and I graduated in 1962.
We organized a church and Christian School in south Florida where we served for 14 years. From there we moved to Ocala, Florida and organized Abundant Funds, a fund raising company for private Christian Schools serving schools in 24 states. In 2008 Abundant Funds merged with another Christian Company and I went into 'semi' retirement. I still work with Christian Schools part time with a company founded by my youngest son.
William Roberts purchased this cabin in 2005
Nancy and I wanted a place close by to get away from it all and a place where our four sons and their families could enjoy and relax with their families (sixteen grandchildren and two great). The river cabin is also a place we can invite friends on special occasions. We had a choice between the Gulf and the River. Nancy chose the river and it has proven to be an excellent choice.
Our cabin on the river offers scenery and relaxation. Unfortunately we are only using the cabin about 25% of the time. Our bills continue 100% of the time. We decided to place the cabin on the rental program and make it available to others.

The cabin is in a rustic setting on the river. This is a total change of scenery and being on the water is super relaxing. Across the river from the cabin is the Weeki Wachee Preserve where we observe all types of wildlife including a variety of birds. The river is full of many varieties of fish and manatees..
The cabin is very comfortable and had everything we needed for an extended stay. The first days we did see manatees going by. The river always had something - boaters, birds, fish, etc. we made good use of the canoe. A free use landline helped, too.
This was my third stay at a VRBO rental on the Weeki Wachee river and it was my favorite so far. The cabin has been set up inside to be comfortable and lived in. We felt at home. As one other reviewer said you do need to bring your own TP and dish soap.
The other rentals we stayed at were in the canals downriver and somewhat fancier (which cost appropriately), but this cabin is at THE perfect spot on the river. On the weekend lots of boaters go by and it's fun to people watch. On the weekdays all we saw was Manatees swim by. We paddled up to the spring twice in the sturdy Gruman canoe provided with the rental. I was relieved that the paddles were not cheap and flimsy.
The Owner is a wonderful person to deal with. He even called on the night we arrived to make sure we got in alright. Very nice. We will definitely be looking for another visit.
This place was everything we were looking for. You do need to bring all food you'll want to eat (duh!) and TP and dish soap (if you want to hand wash dishes). They have a dish washer, and we were alotted 2 packets to run it. They supply all the towels and washcloths you need. I didn't see if they had laundry detergent for guests to use for the washer...
We arrived about 11pm. Easy keyless entry. Grocery store about 10-15 min drive away. I cannot WAIT to get back. I could live here indefinitely!!!!
Ahhh, how I wish I owned this cabin! It was such a treasure. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. Usually, I have to warm up to a place before I feel comfortable. But not the case here. The entire place was so clean and uncluttered. The bathroom looked like it had never been used; sparkling white! Everything was where it should be, even down to the electrical outlets. The AC & hot water run perfectly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Weeki Wachee. We did go to the busy state park for the kids' sakes (be sure to get a $2 blow mold mermaid from the machine outside gift shop), but my husband & I couldn't wait to get back to "our" cabin :) We felt envied by all the river goers, as they drifted by eyeing this adorable cabin. The river is so clear, cold & refreshing! We saw manatees every day. And no mosquitos?! Only some no-see-ums. Morning cup of coffee on the dock was the best.
And can I just say, it was so nice to not have 101 rules and regulations to follow while at the cabin. Check out was a breeze! Can't wait to come back. I was already checking my calendar when I got home.
We have stayed on the weeki wachee river for the past 5 years and this was the very best location. In the past we have stayed in homes on a canal. Staying right on the clear part of the river was such a great time. We could swim up the river and just float back down to the cabin all day long. It was also fun watching all the kayakers passing throughout the day. We caught blue claw crabs right off the decks and saw manatee swim by several times. The two decks were wonderful to sit on and relax after a long day on river and we were able to tie up our boats easily. Having the gas station right down the road was very convenient as well if you ran out of something. If we decide to stay on the river for a 6th year, this will be the house we rent. Thank you so much! Our time at your cabin home was wonderful and a blessing.
Would highly recommend this to anyone especially those who like nature and want a river retreat. Able to launch own kayak from dock or use canoe included with rental. Clean fully furnished down to extra sandwich bags to pack items on the river. I would recommend packing extra toilet paper as they only supply one roll. The gas grill was convenient as well. Grill was a little dirty but could be overlooked given all the other positive things about this property.
Our cabin is located directly on the crystal clear Weeki Wachee River at one of the widest parts of the river. It is across from the Weeki Wachee preserve where you will experience the wildlife and beauty of Florida’s Nature Coast. It’s Florida at its finest with our two new, gorgeous inviting docks (24x24 / 8x24) to view our animal neighbors: manatees, river otters, herons, ibis, and eagles frequent the river both at our docks and across the river on the Weeki Wachee Preserve. See the fish clear to the bottom and swim with the gentle manatees that make daily treks by our home. Only 20 minutes by boat to the Gulf of Mexico. Bring your boat, canoe, kayak or paddle board, or just rent them nearby. You may also want to visit the Weeki Wachee Springs State Waterpark with the world-famous LIVE MERMAID SHOW and Weeki Wachee Canoe rentals (15 minutes), the white sand beach at Pine Island on the Gulf (20 minutes), Rogers Park, 3 acre sandy beach on the Weeki Wachee has roped off swimming area, volley ball court, playground, boat ramp, and kayak ramp. (5 minutes). At the end of the day you can cook your own catch on the cabin gas grill and lounge on the two docks or dine at one of many great local restaurants. Within 20 minutes you can choose from two state parks equipped with pavilions, picnic benches, grills and fishing spots. Fishing boats for deep fishing in the Gulf are also available. Just an hour north of Tampa and St. Petersburg and minutes from Hernando Beach, restaurants, and shopping. Only two hours to Orlando theme parks (Sea World, Disney World, MGM & Universal Studios ). 30 minutes north to Homosassa Wildlife State Park or 20 minutes south to the BIRD SANCTUARY in Aripeka, Florida.
A lot to see and do in the area. ENJOY &RELAX.
