I am the fourth generation owner of this building and business. I grew up in Loudonville, and although I spent a few years in Cleveland where I met and married my husband, we moved home to raise our family. We both continue to live and work in this community.
Ann Bitner purchased this apartment in 1988
Red Window Townhouse came about because a friend was looking for a place to stay when she visited family here in Loudonville. The apartment above my business had been empty for some time, even though both my husband and I, and both of our sons and their wives had lived in it, I suggested to her that I fix it up and she could stay there. The building housing Red Window has been in my family for a century, my father was born in the apartment, I grew up in this business, it is a part of who I am.
Living right downtown has so many advantages. You can walk out the front door to shops, banking, restaurants, and recreational activities. The windows in the living room overlook Main Street and the hills south of town are visible from the back deck. The apartment has original skylights for natural light and even though it is right downtown, you won't feel like you are.
We spent the weekend at Red Window Townhouse and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. We felt right at home and enjoyed how spic and span it was. There is no doubt that the owners take pride in this second home and want guests to feel welcome. The location is perfect, we visited Amish country and hiked and kayaked in Mohican.
Thoughtful is the right word to describe this nice spacious apartment. We choose Loudonville to be close to relatives and friends in Ashland and Mansfield (20 miles to either) and around the corner from Mohican. We choose Red Window because we like to be in town, park the car and walk to restaurants, stores etc. There are two decent, reasonably priced restaurants down the street and a funky "locals" sports bar almost across the street. More upscale places require a short drive. The unexpected bonus of the location was we got a front row seat to the annual car show the week before the 4th and we watched the fireworks from the back porch. Just Great!
Sometimes you feel a bit deceived and disappointed when arriving at your online rentals. NOT at the Red Window! Walk through that back porch door and it is very obvious that the owner, Ann has given a great deal of thought to everything! We were greeted with a fresh flower arrangement on the table, snacks on the counter, and even a full compliment of spices. It made us feel right at home. Furniture appears to be mostly new and well arranged for a comfy stay. Beds were both great and there were plenty of spare linens. Back to the kitchen and you see it is very completely stocked. There is even a full set of kitchen knives with a sharpener and not just wine glasses but full sets of red & white glasses - both stemmed and stemless!
We enjoyed most of our breakfast meals at the comfy dining space on the back porch while being entertained by hummingbirds dining with us at the nearby feeder. All of the appliances and electronics are new & work so well my wife wanted to take the laundry units home with us. You can tell that during the renovation Ann did everything the right way. Finishes are nice, everything is well located, TV's, cable system and wifi were easy to use even for technology challenged senior citizens like ourselves! I asked Ann if she had professional help and she replied "No, I just laid awake at night and thought about it". This lady really cares about her guest's experience!
When it was time head home to the heat and humidity of Central Florida, there was even a take home gift of a ceramic Redbird. He now enjoys a "place of honor" in our home. That little bird brings back fond memories of a great visit "back home" and the absolute best apartment in town! Very Thoughtful!
My husband and I are taking several small trips to celebrate our 25th anniversary this year. This was such a comfortable place to stay for one of our trips! The town is a nice place to wander around, and Loudonville is located well for many activities - canoeing, hiking at Mohican State Park, visiting the Mansfield Reformatory and other places in Mansfield - and wonderful to come back to a nice "home" to relax, enjoy the back porch, and have so much more space to enjoy than a hotel! The owner is very responsive, great to work with, and the townhouse shows great care in the furnishings and little touches, like some snacks for us to enjoy! We didn't eat in a lot, but the kitchen is VERY well stocked - could easily cook meals and have what I need! Thanks for a very relaxing long weekend!!
I echo each of the previous reviewers in their praise for the Red Townhouse. We stayed for a long weekend, but would have been comfortable here for a much longer visit. Loudonville is a quant community, and the Red Window Townhouse provides a perfect base for visiting it and the nearby attractions. The owner, who was very easy to work with and quickly responsive to our questions, has lovingly renovated the apartment above her business, which has been family owned since the early 20th century. Her attention to detail is obvious in both the renovation and the thoughtful provisions she provides. The furnishings are comfortable, and the entire place was sparkling clean. It was helpful to have a washer and dryer after a long day on the trails at Mohican State Park (which is just down the road), and we enjoyed eating our dinner on the back deck. We have stayed in numerous vacation rentals around the country and overseas, and found this to be as homelike as any of them. There are several dedicated parking spots in the lot behind the building, and access to the apartment is up a flight of stairs beside it. There is also a front door that directly opens on to Main Street, and a charming bay window in the living window, which provided us front row seats for Loudonville's Memorial Day parade! We would highly recommend this rental.
We stayed at The Red Window Townhouse the 4th of July weekend and it is the best place to be for the fourth. We had access to come and go during the weekend Car Show and the back porch was perfect for watching the Fireworks!!! My 7yr old grandson kept saying these fireworks are awesome. There is so much to do in Loudonville, it was a beautiful relaxing weekend and we had everything we needed at the townhouse. Thanks for keeping the place so nice. Another nice surprise is the pretty jewelry gifts from my husband, which he bought downstairs in the jewelry store.
The Red Window Townhouse is a welcoming and lovely place to stay. A historic building in Loudonville, renovated with love by the owner, this wonderful apartment has everything you need and more. When you walk in the door you immediately feel at home. Ann has decorated and furnished this apartment with her guests comfort as her first priority. Well appointed kitchen, Wi-Fi, lovely big fluffy towels, comfortable beds, and best of all is Ann's sweet and hospitable personality. My sister and I spent a long weekend during Loudonville's Free Street Fair, we had a front row seat!! Loudonville just celebrated its Bicentennial, so if you are looking for friendly people, shopping, hiking, canoeing, skiing, bird watching and more and want to come "home" to warmth and comfort then Red Window Townhouse is the best place to stay. Thank you, Ann, for creating such a welcoming and lovely place.
