Why Cathy Albright chose Kentucky

As empty nesters, we were looking for a convenient location to enjoy family time with our grown daughters and their families. It is a blessing to be able to share our good fortune and this beautiful location with family and friends.

What makes this house unique

Nolin River Lake and our Santee Shores property is an easy commute from metro Louisville and other midwest cities via I-65 and the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Great rental

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, well maintained home with a view of Nolin Lake. There is no access to the lake from the property but there is a short trail to follow that leads to the water. There were some hungry and friendly ducks that the grandchildren loved feeding at the end of the trail.

Seven houses down the street there is a paved driveway that leads towards the lake. A short path through the trees leads to docks for the homeowners. This is where we launched the kayaks that are included in the rental. We enjoyed these very much. We took the seats out of our van and we were able to transport the kayaks to the docks. It would be a somewhat hard to get the kayaks to the lake with the little carts provided, but it could be done.

We were very appreciative that there were things such as foil, plastic wrap, and baggies provided.

We really enjoyed the screened in porch. Enjoyed throwing frisbees and footballs in the front yard.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the fee that is charged by VRBO is really not disclosed prior to booking. It is a surprise add on when you make your payment. It added quite a bit to our payment that we were not expecting.

Fantastc home- clean, comfortable, spacious

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful girls weekend. Home was spacious, liked double beds and no bunk beds. Big kitchen offered great area to cook in. Love the new deck and screened in porch was lovely. Neighbors were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed floating at the dock. Thank you so much for being so accommodating and helpful communication. First home we've rented and it was wonderful.

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this house in August 2016. We had 2 families, each with 2 adults and 2 children. It was very, very clean and spacious..room for all 8 of us to be in the family room or out on the back porch together. It was hot, so we appreciated the supplemental air conditioners in the bedroom off the garage and the upstairs bedroom. Kitchen had everything you could want. The lake is not accessible from the property (we had known that), but the dock area is nice down the road. If you take your car down , there is still a short walk through the woods, with kayaks it could be challenging if you don't have some strong folks with you..we had two husband's and two tweens, so no problem for us.We highly recommend the local Cub Run cave tour. The cave is gorgeous and the tour group was small and the guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. We also went to Mammoth Cave (the Green River ferry was fun) and Diamond Caverns...both worth the visit. Ate at El Mazatlan in Mumfordsville, but our favorite meal was at Mama Lou's Barbecue in Uno. Food was fabulous and lots of it .My husband and I shared the BBQ sampler platter and had at least one full meal left over! The hospitality was even better, as was the Pecan pie! Overall, had a great time, would recommend this rental...great owner and great communication, hassle free. Thanks Cathy!

Owner's Response: Shelly, Glad your family enjoyed the kayaks. A lot of guests enjoy trying them out if they have never kayaked before to see if that is an activity they would like before investing in a purchase. Although the kayaks aren't very heavy, they are bulky and awkward. There are two kayak/canoe wheeled carriers available to use to make it a bit easier to transport to the water. Cathy

Will Not Disappoint

  • 5 of 5

This property was a perfect setting for our family of 12 to gather and enjoy a week of fun together. I chose this place because of outstanding reviews given by previous renters. It met my expectations and then some. Not even an hour after arriving, we felt "at home". The kitchen was equipped well enough that we were able to prepare all meals for the week with ease. Cathy has the cupboards supplied well enough with staples that if you forget something, it's probably there! The screened-in porch was a relaxing, quiet spot for that first cup of coffee in the morning, and a place to unwind and listen to the sounds of nature in the evening. On days our kids and grandkids visited the the caves and beaches, my husband and I found the village of Glendale for antique shopping, and Gethsemene Abbey to satisfy our interests, both less than an hour away. The Amish store just a few miles from the house has many interesting items in its inventory, and a grocery store which includes some homemade goodies for your sweet-tooth. The whole family enjoyed a day on the lake with a pontoon rental from Wax Marina just across the lake from the house. Most of my family also took kayaks, (which Doug and Cathy make available with the house), out on the lake. Neighbors, Dean and Carolyn (who are also property managers) were very helpful in providing additional info about the area. We were barely home before being notified that the damage deposit was refunded. They couldn't have done more to make this vacation experience more pleasant! Hopefully we will be able to return for more adventures on Lake Nolin and enjoy this cozy house again!

Clean, comfortable, and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

Indoor accommodations: My family had a wonderful time at the Albrights' vacation home. It was very spacious and yet cozy with plenty of casual gathering areas, perfect for our 4-generational family vacation. The 'spacious' sleeping arrangements (no two bedrooms shared a wall, so there was no unwanted noise issues) came in very handy since our group's ages spanned a variety of privacy needs, such as: a rambunctious 6 year old and her equally rambunctious older brother, a not-yet-sullen-but-don't-count-your-eggs-before-they-hatch teenager, parents of said teenager, and patriarch of us all, Great Grandpa B. who just celebrated his 87th birthday this year. The central air made things comfy for everyone, and the sizable enclosed deck was perfect for a bug free place to relax!

Outdoor accommodations: The kayaks and bikes were great fun for the outdoorsy folks in our group, while the deck was the ideal place to listen to nature while knitting or reading. My children needed a day to adjust to swimming in a river (we're lake folk, being from Michigan), so they played in the front lawn and roomy driveway with the garden hose and sprinkler. The neighbors were very nice and the street saw more golf cart and foot traffic versus cars and trucks. Basically, we felt at home!

Location: If you get carsick easily, you might be better off staying at a hotel off the freeway since this is in the midst of beautiful winding rivers and the beginnings of cave country. Otherwise, the roads in and around the home are lovely, showcasing some amazing views of rolling hills, Amish farmsteads, and over a dozen examples of the Kentucky Quilt Trail. To get anywhere touristy, you need to drive at least 20 minutes in any direction, not because of distance, but because of all the curves. But definitely check out Detweilers's Country Store: lots of great quilting fabric, bulk food goods, fascinating selection of Amish books, plants, and MORE! Oddly enough, there wasn't much locally made products, but that's probably due to the state's Cottage Food laws. Still, the selection there was pretty impressively diverse with some gluten free options. And I might have fallen in love with their jerky sticks. Just sayin'.

Overall, we had a lovely time in a place that easily felt like home! I highly recommend this place. Thank you Cathy and family!
