Nice House near Mammoth Cave

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a great location for Mammoth Cave and the Cub Run Cave. Cub Run Cave is about 10 minutes drive and was even better than Mammoth. It is a one man show so you need to be patient for the tour. I kept thinking it was closed until I saw all the cars leave the parking lot to drive down to the cave for the tour leaving the lot empty.

The house is very nice and we had a great time on the porch and at the campfire. We had 9 people including a toddler and we had plenty of room and even a high chair.

Only two concerns,

First is the nonstick frying pans need to be replaced. Some of them we would not use because they are no longer safe because they are scratched and the finish is coming off.

Second we were there the beginning of April and were surprised at how low the lake level was. Getting the kayaks to and from the water was a challenge. I planned to fish with my grandson and could not without a boat because the house is lakefront but the lake level was so low the dock was 10 feet from the water. The water level was almost to the dock by the time we left so that should not be a problem by May.

Denny and Carolyn were very helpful. They made our stay into a great family vacation. The communication with them and Cathy was excellent.

Owner's Response: Thanks Stuart for letting us know about the cookware. I will replace the damaged items on our next visit to the lake. The lake level is controlled by the Army Corp of Engineers and the dam is opened and closed at various times during the year for flood control. In the fall, the lake level is drastically lowered and left at that level till the Spring rains are over at which time the dam is closed (usually early May) and the lake allowed to fill for the summer boating season. Peak rental demand and rates for Nolin River Lake is June - September when the lake is at full summer pool. My rates are adjusted accordingly for the other seasons as I am aware that guests will not be able to boat or swim due to temperature and water level. Regarding the kayaks - they are our family’s personal kayaks and we use them when there and like to make them available to our guests should they like to try kayaking. They are 11 feet long so I know they are large and bulky and heavy for one person to transport. I have purchased kayak dollies to help make this easier - but they are still big. The best/easiest scenario is if you traveled to our house in a truck, van, or SUV type vehicle and can transport them to the dock parking area and from there it is a short walk on the path to the docks.

Fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

The entire stay was seamless and exactly what we needed. In fact, it exceeded in every way. We needed space, and there were more beds and rooms than we could fill! We needed indoor and outdoor cooking options, and both were abundantly available. We needed a bit of nature, and it was there to be had. We needed peace, and the place was wonderfully peaceful. We needed convenience to the recreational options in the area and, as long as one is ok with hopping in the car for a pretty drive, there was more than we could hope for. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, modern and spacious lakefront home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, modern and spacious lakefront home! Really enjoyed the screened in back porch, deck and the great view of the lake. Big well stocked kitchen, dining area and den with plenty of seating for eight people. Big bedrooms with lots of beds and nice bathrooms.

Would suggest that the bedroom beside the garage needs its own bathroom due to the distance from the rest of the house. Our only complaint was that the heating and air-conditioning wall unit in the bedroom beside the garage is very noisy.

We loved our stay there and would rent it again as well as highly recommend it!

Owner's Response: Glad your group enjoyed their stay at our Santee Shores lake home. The extra guest room off the garage was originally a Man Cave but we always seemed to need extra bedroom space when our whole family was there so we made it into a 4th bedroom. I agree - a 3rd bathroom for that area would be wonderful and that is on my project wish list. We try to make improvements each year to enhance the property for ourselves and our guests enjoyment. This past year the large open deck was added - the prior summer, the screened porch. Maybe a 3rd bathroom in 2017! Cathy

Family Weekend Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed with your house, everything was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable, the house was clean and welcoming (like being at home) and you had a plenty of extras. Being by the lake was beautiful, my grandsons love to walk down to lake and explore. The screened in porch was awesome in the morning sitting out there having breakfast. We spent a lot of time on the outside deck and fire pit enjoying the surroundings. Thank you for opening your house to us. We had an awesome weekend. We plan on visiting again next year.

Very enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described. Very nicely decorated, clean, and with everything you need. The back deck is beautiful! We did not spend a lot of time at the house as we were out visiting the National Parks and historic sites in the area, but we enjoyed the time we did have there. We would definitely recommend this property. Thank you for a very nice stay!
