Amazing, peaceful and idyllic vacation paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just completed a month at the exquisite home of Sylvain and Jean Marc. It had to be one of our best vacations ever! We have rented other homes but none compare to the beauty and peace we found here.

The grounds are absolutely spectacular. Driving up the road to the house you begin to get a hint of what is in store, as you are greeted by a brilliant display of colorful oleander and acres of fruit and olive trees all around. Soon the vista opens to the house. It is everything you have ever dreamed that a house in Provence would be. It is spacious, well appointed , equipped with anything you could possibly need or want for your stay. But, it is the attention to detail, the use of color, the fine linens, the meticulous cleanliness....everything is perfect. The house exudes the warmth and hospitality of the owners who had prepared a wonderful wine and cheese greeting upon our arrival. They were so welcoming after our long trip that you felt at home immediately. During our long stay,( not long enough) Sylvain made himself available to help us in any way we needed. His kindness, caring and amazing spirit will never be forgotten.

If I am constantly writing in superlatives that is because this property is truly a paradise. The house, the view, the pool and, the fact that you are in a location where so many beautiful towns can be visited within a short drive, makes for nothing less than the perfect vacation. Thank you Sylvain and Jean Marc for giving us memories that will last for a lifetime..make sure you call if you are near us in the States.

It's all true. Simply idyllic.

  • 5 of 5

You should not be put off by the earlier reviews that seem "too good to be true." Au contraire. The owners are very real, and their home is truly enchanting. We won't repeat all said below, except to say we agree, +++. This is not hype. Of the dozens of rental places we've stayed around the globe, this is the one our San Francisco family will come back to.

The attention to detail is striking. From the mundane (enough plugs in the right places; dishes, linens, pool and house attendants) to the sublime (artistic and tasteful decoration in every room; five (!) distinct and alluring outdoor spaces; and everything in between. Photos are good. Unlike some spots, the reality is actually even better.

Private: not one house in sight, except Marseille, 50km down the valley on a clear day. Beautiful: we need to come back to see the gardens as they evolve through every month. Historic: the rocky fortress of Les Baux feels part of the property. Home: we ended up shopping local markets then cooking at home two-thirds of the time--usually over the wood grill---just because we didn't want to leave. Les Hesperides has a certain magic. It brings to life its motto, paraphrased: There is no other place than this, no other time than now.

Sylvain and Jean Marc: a votre sante! Et a bientot.

Une très belle découverte !

  • 5 of 5

A privilege to stay here.

  • 5 of 5

There's no doubt in my mind that we were privileged to have the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful home for the duration of our holiday in the South of France.

Sylvain and Jean-Marco are fantastic hosts - warm and welcoming, full of information and consideration.

Their home is superb - it is exactly as described, but the photos etc cannot do justice to the experience. We spent an absolutely wonderful two weeks in Les Baux.

The location is great - in the middle of everything, in stunning landscape close to some real beauty spots, surrounded by vineyards - what more could you want?

The local towns St Remy, Maussane and of course the more "tourist oriented" village of Les Baux, are great - you can find everything you need on your doorstep and you don't need to travel far for a wonderful restaurant or a really relaxed day out.

We stayed at the house with a 3 year old and a 9 month old and they loved it. It is kid friendly, the vegetable garden, fruiting trees, laying hens and of course the pool are all delightful for small kids. Our families came visiting and everybody had a really great time. We spent most of our time lounging, or dining and we used the outside grill every single day :)

This is a fantastic place to stay and I'd like to warmly thank Sylvain and Jean-Marco for giving our family the opportunity to spend such a wonderful holiday together.

Owner's Response: You and all your family were amazing. You have waited 2 hours for a car rental service, drive all the way from Lyon , get here at 9.00pm with an incredible smile. During your stay you had storms, lightening, shut down power, but it didn't change the way you felt about our property, You are amazing!!!! Thank you so much for your incredible review, and please, come back!!. Love. Sylvain

Paradise in Provence

  • 5 of 5

After a long & tiring journey it was lovely to receive such a warm welcome from our hosts. This was our first visit to Les Hesperides and although we had seen a raft of photos on line you are never completely sure that reality is going to match up – it certainly did! Our smiles widening as we were given a guided tour of this gorgeous property. Beautifully appointed with stunning views all around, yet screened to give complete privacy. As the rest of our party arrived, they too were impressed with the accommodation and the fabulous garden & pool.

It was an ideal location to totally step away from the stress of everyday life and chill out. We loved getting to know the chickens and colleting fresh eggs for breakfast and wandering around the grounds picking the lovely fresh produce. Tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, peppers & herbs from the vegetable garden ,then checking the fruit trees for what was ripening. It all tastes delicious when it’s so fresh! The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need and the outside grill was put to good use!

As well as lazing around the pool watching the lizards scurrying about we did stir ourselves to explore some of the local area. The small village of Mausanne has everything you need with a great selection of individual shops. The market at St.Remy de Provence was a delight and we explored several other towns nearby each with their own distinctive characters, including Les Baux of the castle that dominates the skyline above the villa.

We had a brilliant holiday that not only lived up to but totally exceeded our expectations. This may have been our first visit but it definitely won’t be our last!

Perfect… charm and views in the heart of Provence.

  • 5 of 5

We read fantastic the reviews and we were delighted to find that they are true. We were charmed by the lovely home, large well-maintained property with spectacular views and many unique details that made our two weeks here a fun, relaxing and memorable family vacation.

The house is immaculate and comfortable with high-end finishes and Provencal charm. The renovated chef’s kitchen is stocked with quality cooking implements, dishes, etc. The home has many areas to lounge, allowing easy separation when desired. We all spent time napping in the hammocks and loved reading on the upper terrace with the cool breeze and phenomenal view. The adjacent pool and pool house are perfect after a day of traveling to nearby towns. We spent many nights dining alfresco BBQing on the olive wood fire while watching the expansive sky for shooting stars.

What sets this property apart is the spectacular garden filled with flowers and fruit trees and landscaped with an impeccable eye. The views range from the nearby Les Baux castle to the 60-mile vista overlooking olive orchards to the Marseille harbor--giving us the feeling we were in a private resort.

The home seems remote but it’s only minutes to drive to Maussane. We especially enjoyed Maussane’s many lovely restaurants---our favorite is Aux Ateliers Chez Franck et Flo, it’s fun and the food is fantastic. The home is ideally situated within 15 minutes to 1-hours drive from the most desirable towns of the region.

We had many hysterical moments trying to interact with the chickens. We felt we were really living the Provencal lifestyle when we gathered our eggs, picked tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant and fresh herbs for our meals. The kids wandered freely among the expansive property gathering peaches and plums and exploring the ridge above the house and trails through the olive orchards.

We were in heaven the two nights that chef Jean-Philippe cooked for us. We lounged by the pool with our wine and watched the sun set from the terraced gazebo as he provided a fantastic meal and then cleaned up everything.

Our gregarious hosts, Sylvain and Jean-Marc, welcomed us with an aperitif, showed us the expansive property and invited us to wander and eat the fruit and vegetables. Sylvain is warm and easy to work with. It is apparent that they have put a great deal of thought into providing everything their guests could need. We were thrilled with our choice and highly recommend this property.
