Lake John Circle is an intimate neighborhood in West Orange County that sits on a beautiful north shore cove of Lake John, one of Central Florida's loveliest lakes.

This property has been owned and occupied and lovingly cared for by the same family since the 1930s. The current home, built in 1957, replaced the family's original Florida Cracker home, which was claimed by the state when the Florida Turnpike was constructed.
Dee Rivers-Yowell purchased this house in 1957
In the midst of Central Florida's enormous development over the last four decades, every now and then one comes upon a place of peace reminiscent of Old Florida. This property is one of those, sitting beneath an ancient Heritage Oak, thousands of years old and on a cove once occupied by the area's Native Americans. In fact, in the 1980s, during a drought, a dug-out canoe, a thousand years old, was found along the shore in front of the house. It can be seen at the Orange County Historical Museum. From the deck, sunsets are breath-taking, and the nocturnal chorus from the lake's occupants is wonderful: frogs of many species, crickets, even bull gators. Away from light pollution, the night sky is a beautiful starry canopy, and breezes in the treetops is a lullaby.
Location, location, location: where easy access to everything meets the peace of natural Florida.
This house was perfect for my family of 4. We needed a house for over a month until our new home was completed. Dee (the owner) is wonderful and met me at the house to walk us through. The house has everything you need to live. The majority of our belongings were in storage so we needed everything. My son loved the lake and fished every day. You should have seen his face light up when he caught his first fish and there were many more to come. The house is clean, plenty of room and was so peaceful. The house is close to many things, short ride to wonderful downtown Winter Garden and minutes from the turnpike that takes you into Orlando. We were so lucky that Dee rented to us.
We were able to meet Dee (the owner) at check in and received the grand tour of the wonderful and functional family home. She was so gracious and gave us the generational family history of the property. The home, lake, sunsets and birds and other delightful critters did not live up to her promise--- IT WAS BETTER and BETTER!!!! Even the day of rain was lovely!
My husband loved sketching the old oak trees and surrounding scenery. A great retreat and easy and close drives to ALL the tourist attractions!
We totally fell in love with the place and the area! Dee wanted us to feel "at Home" and we did!! WE Will be back!!!!!
We have family in the Orlando area and rented this lovely home during the holidays. It was far more than we ever expected and a wonderful stay. Dee is so gracious and she even had the home decorated with her Christmas decor. We had a couple of family events there and took a family picture of all of us around the swing under the awesome oak tree. A special home and property! Loved our stay and hope to be back.
We were building a home and needed a place to stay for a few months as we waited on the completion of the construction. This home was wonderful. It is fully equipped with everything you would need for a short or long stay plus extras. The house is not at all small, but still has a very cozy, inviting feel. Each room has a beautiful view of the lake and the amazing old oak trees which surround the property. It is very close to the town of Winter Garden as well as a turnpike access to get you anywhere else quickly, but still feels a bit remote and secluded. The owner is sweet, accommodating, and very easy to work with. We would definitely recommend this property!
My wife and I were looking for a quiet, restful place near friends we wanted to visit and the Atlantic beaches.
Our stay at the lake house met all of our expectations and more. We had a great time. It did indeed feel like our home away from home. We enjoyed coffee on the patio in the mornings as all kinds of birds and wildlife visited the area.
The quaint village of Winter Garden with some fine cafes and antique shops was an added bonus.
We have already booked our stay for next year.
Although it was raining when we arrived, our host proceeded to not only help us get acquainted with the house but also gave us a wonderful tour of old Winter Garden and the surrounding area. It didn't take long for us feel right at home both inside and outside. The large oak trees (complete with Spanish moss), the fruit trees and the beautiful flowers certainly compliment the comfortable home and helped us enjoy this winter vacation. Having already spent a month at an Orlando timeshare, being in a quite and peaceful location was just what we were looking for. Of course all of the local wildlife which accompanies living on a lake was another pleasant benefit and we were able to see many local birds, squirrels, and the occasional "gator" in the lake. The neighbors that we met were very nice and helpful whenever we needed anything.
The house was as good if not better than described and the setting was both serene and beautiful. We extended our visit another week and would have stayed longer if we could have. After staying for about 40 days we still had things that we wanted to do (some of which were repeats) like the farmer's market, evenings in old Winter Garden, eating out at the many local restaurants, and sight seeing in the area.
In summary this became our favorite winter home away from home and we are looking forward to returning for a longer stay next year!
In addition to the well-known, nearby theme parks, Lakeridge Winery is just moments away in nearby Clermont and offers tours and special events; an hour north is Ocala and Marion County--serious horse country;
the Oakland Preserve (ten minutes) provides a boardwalk excursion through a wonderful wilderness reserve; several natural spring runs are 45 minutes close, offering awesome canoe adventure through unspoiled forests; Ocala National Forest with great fishing and endless trails is less than two hours North. The Lake House is also perfectly situated to visit some of the areas older, wonderful attractions, such as Weeki Wachee Springs and its famous mermaids, and Brooksville Famous Flea Market. See the Worlds, but there is so much more to Central Florida to discover and love. The Lake House is perfectly situated to see it all.
