Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Four Corners - French Estate/Gallatin River

5 Br, 5 Bath, 4300 Sf Estate... Luxury Living In The Country

For those of you who don't know the Bozeman area:

Bozeman is a wonderful blend of spectacular outdoor scenery and activities along with a vibrant artistic and cultural life. Three world-class ski areas-- Big Sky, Moonlight Basin, and Bridger Bowl are all within a 45-minute drive, and cross-country skiing exists at every turn. World-famous Yellowstone National Park is only 90 minutes away and is open year-round. Extraordinary fishing, hunting, horse-back riding, rafting, hiking, and animal-watching are in every direction. With its university base, the area draws a great variety of musical, dance, and performing arts venues. Downtown Bozeman is an historic district filled with boutiques, galleries, and restaurants.

About our French country estate:

Our home is located 7 miles west of downtown Bozeman, right next to a channel of the Gallatin River, which is an internationally renowned trout-fishing stream. Nature abounds... birds are everywhere in this riparian area, including eagles, hawks, owls, geese, ducks, cranes, woodpeckers, plus smaller birds. You'll see deer daily, and wild turkeys and badgers on occasion.

The house is spacious: 4300 sf plus a 3-car garage. As in any French country home, life revolves around the kitchen and great room. The pine floors, antiques, stone fireplace, and overhead pan rack convey an instant warmth and sense of escape. You'll enjoy two large islands and a spacious pantry. You have seating for 4 in the breakfast nook and for another three at the island. The kitchen is fully equipped with fine silverware, plates, and cooking utensils.

Our estate is a wonderful spot for family reunions and get-aways. It is not, however, a "party house". Covenants do not allow parking on the street, but the three garage bays and driveway allow for a maximum of five cars. Covenants also do not allow loud outside music.

The large dining room with arched windows extends the European country feel, with antique pine furniture, dried flowers, and antique light fixtures. Eight people can dine comfortably at the table. If you want some real peace-and-quiet, escape to the den with a good book. The tall windows let in the early morning light or starlight at night.

The large master bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, brings the wild outdoors right into the room. From the antique bed, you'll look out across a field to the snow-capped Bridger Mountains, and if you leave the door open at night, you'll hear the stream gurgling behind the house. All our beds are truly 'heavenly', with compression foam, feather beds, and down comforters.

The large master bathroom, with granite counter-tops and cherry cabinets, has dual sinks and a large soaking tub with unobstructed views of the mountains. You have large his-and-hers walk-in closets and a tiled shower.

The other 3 bedrooms are all large, have ample closet-space, and have their own private and spacious full bathrooms. Views from the large windows of the surrounding natural areas and wildlife are phenomenal. A reminder... all beds are 'heavenly' equipped!

The spacious bonus room above the garage has a queen bed and also a twin bed, so can be used as a 5th bedroom. It is immediately adjacent to a bathroom upstairs. We have a couple air-beds that can be laid out in the bonus room, the dance room, or the den.

The upstairs deck off the dance floor overlooks the river and wooded area behind the house, and the expansive 1st-floor patio spans the entire back side of the house, allowing plentiful space for barbecuing and outside dining.

The yard and garden are immaculate, with automatic sprinkler system. In the summer, the gardens and flower-boxes are overflowing with floral colors!

The large garage is heated and has three stalls, each with a remote opener.

Bozeman Hot Springs is only five minutes away... one of the finest upscale hot springs in the world. Enjoy any of the 9 pools, sauna, steam room, or exercise rooms.

You can drive to any of the major ski areas in the area-- Big Sky, Moonlight Basin, or Bridger Bowl, in under 40 minutes, or you can catch the free ski shuttle to Big Sky and Moonlight Basin that is only 2 minutes away. There are 4 major fishing and guiding shops within 2 miles of the house.

House specifics:

Natural gas cooktop with 5 burners.

Large refrigerator/freezer.

Dual convection ovens with microwave.

Keurig coffeemaker.

Forced air heat with two air conditioners.

About Paul Larson

We are Suzy and Paul Larson. We built this house in 2008, with a dream of having a French-style home next to a river. The result exceeded our dreams.

Paul Larson purchased this chateau / country house in 2008

Why Paul Larson chose Montana

Everyone who comes here remarks at the warmth of the home. With its warm country hues and European accents, you feel at ease and relaxed. Paul's favorite escape is to put on his waders, grab his fishing rod, and walk out the back door to fishing paradise. The Gallatin river beckons, with its blue-green waters, moist scents, seclusion, and abundant wildlife.

We love seeing all the animals around the house. We have a resident pheasant family that brings a new brood every spring. Birds are everywhere-- geese, ducks, cranes, owls, woodpeckers, wild turkeys, bald eagles... The list is endless. We are also treated to 'bambi olympics' every year when the newborn fawns chase each other around the house. We are occasionally visited by wilder creatures also... Have seen badgers and yes, even a small black bear.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We are dancers, and so had the large dance floor built. The grandkids love coming over and romping around the large space.

Our house is a unique, quiet get-away, but definitely not a "party house".

Wonderful Stay/Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at this property. We came with 4 separate couples and the home was perfect for us... we each had out own room and each had a separate bathroom. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and eating in, which we did because we were all on a budget.

Paul was very easy to communicate with and very accommodating and helpful as we planned our trip. The yard was beautiful... I wish we'd of had our older kids, they would have loved running in the beautiful green backyard and playing in the stream that is 30 yards from the house.

The home had everything we needed (including some things we weren't expecting: pack and play, fun games, dance floor).

We will definitely return.

Great stay in Four Corners

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of eight people and found the house to be very accommodating for that size group. The house was clean and very well stocked from kitchen to bathrooms. We had a few minor issues that Paul addressed immediately. Everyone enjoyed their stay in beautiful Montana, and we would recommend the house to any small group.

Horrible experience

  • 1 of 5

I would not recommend this home to anyone. The floor was very dirty when we showed up and there was suppose to be keys for us. When I called to ask the response was something came up and they didn't have time to go over to the house. I was having my wedding and ceremony there which I made sure I asked if that was allowed ahead of time and was told it would be the perfect spot and people have weddings there in the past. The lawn was not mowed and was suppose to be mowed Saturday morning and no one showed up. The owners showed up and hour before the wedding and said they didn't know we were having a wedding when my emails clearly said is this allowed. Anyways the neighbors were mad and said that he isn't suppose to let people have weddings but they joined us instead of turning is in since it wasn't our fault(I showed them the emails) anyways we left the house a day early and left it spotless!!

Owner's Response: I'm not surprised that these guests responded in this fashion. They violated many of the rules I had for the house, and when I called them on it, they chose to write a review of this nature. In advance, I let them know that there was to be no parking on the street, and that the wooden chairs I had in the house were not to be used outside on the lawn. I received a call at 11:00 in the morning from neighbors who were upset that there was so much noise at the house (loud music) and many cars parked on the street, which violates covenants. I arrived at the house at 1:00 p.m., finding all of the complaints to be true. I was greeted by a man drinking directly from a wine bottle and directing the people who were hauling in a keg. I spoke with people at the house and told them the cars needed to be moved, the chairs needed to be taken back inside, and the music needed to be turned down. The first two were accomplished, but not the third. As I apologized to neighbors the next day, they said the loud music and drinking continued the entire afternoon and evening. In three years of renting our vacation home, we have never had a group so disrespectful of the house rules and of the neighbors. Their response to my calling them on this was to write this horrible review. Our other 30+ reviews that are all 5-star speak for themselves. People who come to have a peaceful time at our luxury vacation rental love it. The one group that came to have a wild outside party did not fit in.

Awesome/ Ideal

  • 5 of 5

After a long search for an ideal house to stay at in and around Belgrade, during a wedding week at a great new venue Foster Creek Farm. I was able to find this gem. If you like to fly fish, you can walk out the backyard and be in the Gallatin river fishing for whitefish or trout- we did this almost every morning. The dance floor was great for all the family and friends and there were many dance parties:) Paul was great with any questions we had. Hope to be there again next year!
