Welcome to Wai‘ula‘ula at Mauna Kea---a private, gated community on the Hapuna Golf Course.

Relax in our 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom, 2,100 sqft. condominium and enjoy the many upgrades we’ve added to our home, including hardwood floors, new bedroom carpeting, an updated outdoor kitchen, and more.

As original owners, we selected our 1st floor condo during Wai’ula’ula’s pre-build phase for its 650 sqft. wrap-around lanai, its preferred orientation during Kohala’s windiest days, and its proximity to the community’s recreation center. Our lanai’s northwestern exposure offers views of the ocean, the Kohala coast and, on clear days, the magnificence of Maui’s Haleakala across the channel.

We’ve spared little expense furnishing our home for family and friends, and trust that it will offer you the warmest aloha during your stay on the Big Island. Our unit offers: kitchen bar stools; an indoor dining table; two master suites with king size beds, dual sink bathrooms with a tub and walk-in shower; internet access; multiple 60”+ web-based HDTVs; Polynesian-inspired furnishings, a third bedroom with twin beds and a futon; a Bluetooth sound bar; two Tropitone outdoor tables/chairs on our lanai; an outdoor kitchen with sink, six-burner Weber Summit grill and refrigerator; and finally a wide variety of pool/beach extras, including towels, toys, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, etc. We also ensure that our kitchen and laundry are equipped with virtually every necessity to accommodate you during your stay.

As one of the closest units to the community recreation center, you are steps away from a saline infinity pool, hot tub, outdoor showers, indoor lounge with HDTV, BBQ pavilion, toddler’s pool and fitness center. You’re also just a short drive from two of Hawaii's most beautiful white sand beaches at the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea resorts.

Should you wish to participate in the resorts’ (Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince) Amenity Package, a nominal activation & card fee offers you charging privileges, as well as access to each resort’s fitness center, pool, beach towels, chaises and umbrellas. This Amenity Package also includes preferential resort parking and discounted rates for golf and tennis.

Days pass quickly with: sunrise and Kona coffee; a workout at the gym; a jog to either of the resorts; aerobic/yoga classes; breakfast on our griddle; paddle boarding; snorkeling; swimming; boogie boarding; golf; tennis; lounging on the beach; lunch at Mauna Kea’s Hau Tree beach restaurant; reading on our lanai; exploring the island; drinks, music, and sunsets at Mauna Kea’s Copper Terrace; grilling on our BBQ; dinner on our lanai; a movie on our 65” HDTV; and star gazing into an amazing night sky.

We specifically selected our 1st floor condo for its practical comfort, the expanse of its wrap-around lanai, surrounding grass, northern orientation which protects against Kohala's occasional trade winds, and its proximity to the community's recreation center. We have also personalized our unit with a variety of upgrades, including: hard wood floors, upgraded carpeting in the bedrooms, unique Polynesian-style furniture, a completely remodeled outdoor kitchen, and very inviting audio/visual equipment.

Another excellent vacation

We had another excellent vacation at this Wai'ula'ula condo. We found the owner to be responsive and easy to contact - much appreciated! The condo was again in excellent condition and very clean. I attended a conference at the Hapuna Beach Resort, so it was only a short drive to this hotel - making it quite convenient to stay at this location. My wife and I couldn't be happier with our choice! Thanks!

Absolutely perfect Hawaiian getaway!

We had a wonderful stay at this Wai Ula Ula condo. Unfortunately it wasn't long enough! The pictures don't do this condo justice. The kitchen is fully stocked and has everything you would need to cook meals, make cocktails, etc. The place was clean when we arrived and was exactly what we needed. There were 6 adults that stayed here and we we're all perfectly comfortable. We ate dinners on the lanai and really enjoyed opening up the doors for that indoor/outdoor feel. We also LOVED being able to use the boogie boards at the Mauna Kea Beach since the winter waves we're big this time of year. The owners we're so accommodating and incredibly responsive to any questions/emails prior to our arrival. They even took the time to provide us some suggestions of places to try on the island. We are already planning our return trip! Thanks so much for letting us stay at your beautiful place! Aloha.

Luxury + location + attention to detail + responsive owner = perfect vacation

We were deciding between two properties for our ten-day Big Island vacation. One owner responded to my list of questions with, "Check our website." Erika answered each question thoroughly and patiently. Decision made!

And what a good decision it was! Wai 'ula 'ula was ideal for our group (me, my husband, our two young adult sons, my mom). The unit is spacious, thoughtfully laid out, and meticulously clean. Some condos cut corners, but not this one. Towels are thick and plentiful. Kitchen equipment and the outdoor grill are top-of-the-line. Bedrooms are roomy, nicely separated from each other, and have luxurious mattresses and linens. It was very convenient to have a washer and dryer on site. Every time we thought, "Hmm, it would be nice if there were a something-or-other," we turned around and there it was!

The location next to the community Amenity Center made it easy to get a quick swim in. Having privileges at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and the Mauna Kea Resort was fantastic--both of them have large, beautiful beaches that we thoroughly enjoyed. We didn't golf or play tennis on this trip, but those facilities looked amazing, too.

We had good meals at The Fish and the Hog in Waimea, Kohala Burger and Taco in Kawaihae (not much atmosphere so you might want to get take out--fantastic burgers, though!), and Thai Thai near Volcanoes National Park. For groceries, we found Island Gourmet in the Queen's Marketplace more reasonably priced than the Foodland Farms Mauna Lani. The condo is extremely well stocked with sauces and spices, as well as any kind of kitchen equipment you'll need if you want to cook or grill.

Our excursions took us to Waimea, Kailua-Kona, Mauna Kea Observatory, Hawi, and Volcanoes National Park, as well as diving and snorkeling. No matter where we were during the day, we were always glad to return to the comfort and luxury of Wai 'ula 'ula. We had no issues with the property during our stay.

The condo was exceptional, and the communication from Erika was stellar. We are grateful that she and Greg made Wai 'ula 'ula available to renters like us. (Now if we can only get them to buy property on Maui and Kauai, since that's where we want to go next!)

Beyond fabulous!

An incredible condo with incredible amenities! From our first inquiry, the condo owner (Erika) was attentive and helpful with all our needs which made booking this beautiful place easy. The photos do not do the place justice, it is more gorgeous than it looks. The place is well outfitted with everything you could want to live here for 10+ days: we made Christmas dinner here and the kitchen is stocked will any/all appliances and cookware you need. On some evenings we BBQ'd on the gorgeous and vast outdoor grill and had dinner under the Hawaiian moonlight on the large patio which was beautiful! Inside dining had plenty of room for our large family of 5 (we have 3 people well over 6 feet and they actually "fit" in the furniture!) The bedrooms are comfortable and come with ample bedding, extra pillows if desired, plenty of towels and linens and huge closet areas for all your "stuff." The condo also provided beach towels for our day trips and snorkel adventures, boogie boards, snorkel gear, floatation noodles and there's sand toys if you have little ones. After being in the sun all day, coming back and being able to watch movies on the giant TV's as a family was wonderful, and we also enjoyed using the great sound system (hooking up our own iPhones via bluetooth) to play Hawaiian music for our at-home happy hours! We hit Costco and the kitchen has more than enough cabinet space, as does the large fridge/freezer, for all our food and drinks! And there is a large washer and dryer in-house as well! With the cool breezy Hawaiian nights we could sleep with windows open and utilize the ceiling fans (in every room) or close everything up and use the AC...

The greatest advantage is full amenity packages to both Hapuna Prince Hotel and the Mauna Kea Hotel....choices! Plus there is a pool and work out room next to this condo as well. With access to all chairs, towels, cabanas, facilities and both resorts, we had the best of both worlds (along with charging privileges so we didn't ever have to carry wallets to the beach!) The condo is located close enough to both Waiamea and Waikoloa towns and near King/Queen shops to do some shopping, and explore restaurants there (like Merimans, best restaurant!) Erika also gave us her list of favorite places to dine and tips on great local/secluded beaches (Beach 69 is beautiful!) I hesitated to write such a great review because we will be coming back to this beautiful condo and don't want to share our great find :)

Fantastic Location/Beautiful Property

I am pleased to give this property 5 stars. The Huyck's home is beautiful and well laid out. It was very comfortable for all 6 in our family. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment to prepare delicious gourmet meals and the grill was new and worked flawlessly (I have come to not expect this).

The location was also great. You can easily go back and forth between the two beaches (Hapuna and Mauna Kea) but for the more adventurous it is easy to travel to great snorkel spots (Captain Cook and Two Step) as well as to the Saddle Road which will take you to the other side of the island. The owners want to make sure you have everything you need and were very accomodating. We could not have had a better experience.

Luxurious Condo, Gorgeous Setting

The condo at Wai 'Ula 'Ula surpassed our expectations in every way. Everything in the condo, from the furniture to the appliances, was in top-notch condition, making our stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Our family of four was able to relax easily amid the gracious layout of the condo, with three large bedrooms, a huge kitchen and living area, and a lanai with a large gas grill. Having a washer and dryer in the unit made life easier, as did having access to the small gym and lovely pool at the amenities center around the corner.

The condo was extremely clean when we arrived, and the pantry and kitchen were amply stocked with cookware, kitchen appliances, paper goods, and an assortment of spices, oils and vinegars (which are very helpful when cobbling together dinner from a few expensive ingredients from the local grocery stores).

The owners were extremely helpful in terms of making restaurant and activity recommendations. They also provided valuable information about several of the different markets in the area.

We thoroughly enjoyed swimming and lounging at the gorgeous white sand beaches and pools, both at Hapuna and Mauna Kea, alternating between the two. The condo was also an easy drive to north Kohala, where we visited the town of Hawi and hiked to the black sand beach in the Pololu Valley. (We also visited Volcano National Park, Hilo, and the observatories at Mauna Kea.)

Based on the excellent condition of the unit, its location in the exceptionally beautiful area of Kohala, and access to the resorts and related facilities, we found this home to be a very good value for our family.
