Quiet apartment, 1 bedroom with king size bed, balcony and private roof terrace

This comfortable apartment for two is located in the popular district De Pijp with many shops, restaurants and bars. Only 5 minutes walk to the Museumplein, the Albert Cuyp market is around the corner and Vondelpark, Leidseplein and Royal Theatre Carré in 10 minutes on foot.

About Marieke

Marieke used to live in Amsterdam, but when she met her true love she moved out of the city into rural area below Rotterdam. And because she was having a hard time to saying goodbye to the vibrant live of Amsterdam they decided to keep the apartment for nice weekends away. They still come to Amsterdam regularly with their children to enjoy city life.

Marieke purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Marieke chose Amsterdam City

When she bought the property Marieke was traveling for her work constantly. She needed a place to come home to on Friday after being away for the week. So besides being part of the hustle and the bustle of the city she wished to have a quiet place to herself with a large outdoor area to enjoy the sun and the feeling of freedom. It all came together in this perfect place.

What makes this apartment unique

De Pijp is a vibrant neighborhood with lots of restaurant, cafes and shops. The famous Albert Cuyp Market is around the corner for all your fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and other groceries. The City Center and all major museums are within walking distance. But despite the busy street life, the apartment is very peaceful and quiet. The roof top terrace is the best place on a nice day, you can relax in privacy and overlook the city.

A wonderful hideaway in the center of the Pijp

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of September, and couldn't have asked for a better apartment in Amsterdam.

There was some construction work being done in the building during our stay, and Marieke was more than fair in her gesture to compensate us for the unplanned disturbance.

The apartment itself is on the top floor of a four story walk-up. The stairs can be a bit intimidating, and certainly are not suitable for larger than standard suitcases. The roof terrace is a wonderful escape with 360 degree views of the surrounding skyline.

The location is ideal with many restaurants within a couple block radius, the Rijksmuseum a short 10-15 minute walk, and Centraal Station about a 25-30 minute walk. There is a tram just at the corner, and the Albert Cuyp market around the block. About a 10 minute walk south there is a little boat rental place (Boaty) where you can rent your own private power boat to cruise the canal system.

I will definitely consider renting this apartment again in the future as we thoroughly enjoyed it, and working with Marieke.

To be in Amsterdam as a local and not as a tourist.

The apartment is loceted in the lively young and colorful De Pijp neighborhood. The neighborhood full of restaurants, cafes, shops and action. Albert Cuyp Market is the highlight. . The location is perfect. A few steps from the tram, a taxi stop & walking distance to the museums & most of central Amsterdam.

The apartment itself is large, clean and well-equipped. Marieke the owner is charming and so welcoming.

We enjoyed every moment. Thanks.

Perfect

We loved our week spent at this apartment which was clean, attractive & completely functional. The bed was extremely comfortable. There were two nice outdoor spaces as well. Marieke met us when we came & provided us with information & a very useful brochure she had prepared. The location was very convenient. We were a few steps from the tram, a taxi stop & walking distance to the museums & most of central Amsterdam. The market was a short block away. The neighborhood was lively but not noisy with many good places to eat. We would try to stay here on any future visit to Amsterdam. We think it deserves 6 stars!

Perfect Location, Apartment and Experience

  • 5 of 5

We walked all over Amsterdam and would definitely stay in this location, and especially this apartment, on a future visit. The neighborhood is vibrant, with lots of shops nearby. There is a taxi stand at the end of the street. The apartment is in more of a residential area than the touristy center of Amsterdam, and a great location for visiting the Rijksmuseum, and Van Gogh museum. All other sights are easy to reach from here as well. We walked to the central train station and took the free ferry across to the Eye Film Institute.

Marieke was very easy to reach by email and telephone, extremely helpful and accommodating. The apartment is very clean, comfortable, with excellent appliances, and very livable. It is airy, with windows at both ends of the apartment. The bedroom is bright, the bed is comfortable, with very nice sheets, pillows, and duvet. The pictures on her website are accurate. It is a quiet apartment, providing one with an excellent night’s sleep.

The food that we had in Amsterdam was very good. A few of my favorite places include the following. The chocolade taart punt, and everything else at the nearby Bakken met Passie, Albert Cuypstraat 53, is delicious! For a tasty lunch or other treats, try De Bakkerswinkel, Warmoesstraat 69. Close to the apartment, you will find healthy soups and sandwiches at SLA, Ceintuurbaan 149. If you do take the ferry to North Amsterdam, you should definitely track down Café de Cuevel, Korte Papaverweg 4, for great food and atmosphere. Burn off the calories by walking “home” and enjoying a Red Rye IPA at Brouwerij ’t IJ, Funenkade 7.

Staying at Marieke’s apartment will make your visit to Amsterdam even better than you expected.

A perfect base for exploring a great city

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have picked a more perfect base for our trip to Amsterdam. The apartment is based at the edge of the museum district in a really nice neighbourhood with lots of great restaurants and bars nearby.

Trams go from the end of the road but we enjoyed exploring the city on foot and made the most of the many museums, galleries and attractions.

The apartment is just around the corner from the Albert Cuyp Market, which has lots of lovely fresh food on offer and there are a few decent supermarkets nearby.

We loved the roof terrace but didn't get to enjoy it much because of the drizzly, cold weather! It has great views across the city and would be perfect on a summer evening if you're brave enough to tackle the stairs up (people weren't lying when they said steps in Amsterdam are steep and narrow!).

The facilities in the apartment are spot on - the kitchen has enough equipment to prepare a decent dinner and the bedroom and lounge are really cosy. The bed is like sinking into a giant marshmallow!

Everything was as described and Marieke gave us all of the information we needed to find it before we arrived. The facilities are clean and well looked after, and the free wi-fi was well used!

Make the most of Marieke's food recommendations - they were all brilliant. We especially loved eating at Thrill Grill and Café Loetje (the steak in gravy is to die for), and Venster 33 was nice for drinks.

If you want to be away from the bustle and brashness of Central, this place is amazing - there are great facilities on the doorstep and everything else is a tram ride or stroll away.

I only wish we had a few extra days for more delicious food and local beer!
