Update summer 2016 - I've just gone through some major rehab, with all new paint on the inside and outside. The house looks great!

About Sarah Bantz

Hello! I moved to Columbia in 1996 and earned a Master's Degree from the MU College of Agriculture. Since then, I have worked in the downtown arts scene, grown and sold vegetables at the Columbia Farmer's Market, and rehabbed this house! Today, I work as an accountant.

Sarah Bantz purchased this house in 2005

Why Sarah Bantz chose Missouri

Once, two older ladies teetered up my front steps to tell me they had lived here as girls in the late 1920s, with a party line phone in the front hall and a cow in the back yard. Sometime later, an overfull car of middle aged men stopped me in the yard to say they had lived and partied here in the 1970s. I bought the house in 2005, stripped it down to the shell, and have been putting it back together ever since...for better or for worse. I have no doubt you will enjoy spending time in this home.

Great weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently had a great weekend in Columbia. Our stay at this Home Away house was like gathering in our own home. We had all the amenities we needed and were very comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed to help us cook our meals. Bathrooms are nice. Neighborhood is safe. Our kids went jogging every morning at a nearby park. We went to a nearby winery one afternoon and got familiar with the city. Our hostess was very quick to answer any of our questions before and during our stay.We hope to stay there again.

Cute & Convenient

  • 4 of 5

We spent one night at Sarah's place. The house was a clean / cute retreat from our wedding festivities. We loved the antique furnishings and found a little stash of board games under the coffee table. If your looking for affordable / trouble free accommodations. I'd highly recommend this house.

Adorable Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My family decided to look for a cottage instead of 2 hotel rooms. We made a great decision! The owner responded quickly to my e-mails and texts. Everyone loved the cottage and the decor was inviting and we felt like we were at home. The kitchen was more than stocked with anything you needed to cook. We are a family that loves to cook and we were able to prepare a great dinner.

I know when I return to Columbia I will be contacting Sarah first! Again, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is planning on visiting Columbia and want to feel like they are at home.

Columbia home

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in this house for the weekend. The house is old and could reasy

This house could really use more updating. There were cobwebs and a musty smell. The owner was pleasant but the inside and outside of the home was neglected. It would be fine for a young group or a brief visit to Columbia.

Very private setting and very close to Mizzou and Stephens College

  • 4 of 5

This was an awesome house for what we needed for the weekend to visit our kids at Mizzou. The price was about what we have paid for a hotel room but we got a whole house. The outside of the house looks very old but the inside is nice and comfortable. We also slept very well here which we usually don't in a hotel room. We liked how there was still condiments in the refrigerator so you didn't have to go to the store and stock up on things that you would end up throwing away. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook. The free Wi-fi was also very nice! It was an awesome house except for these three minor things:

1. The shower door wouldn't close all the way.

2. The bathtub shower was clogged and drained very slowly

3. There is only one old TV with limited cable channels

Like I said these were minor complaints and will likely be repaired soon. I would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Columbia!! Also, we loved the privacy of this house with a nice back porch.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your input Rocky! I am glad you enjoyed the house. I had no idea about the tub so that was very helpful, and an easy fix. I have someone coming to address that shower door and a few other issues on Monday. I am sorry about the TV, improvement there is somewhat outside my budget right now. Again, thank you! Sarah
