|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This 2-bedroom sunny cottage - originally built as a schoolhouse in 1847 and completely renovated in 2013- sleeps up to six people and provides guests a getaway on a 120-acre farm.
The cottage works well for friends' reunions, families with children, and as a peaceful, romantic escape. Writers have used the cottage for quiet inspiration. Climbers and hikers use it as a base for getting to the Cliffs and Mohonk Preserve
Inside the Schoolhouse, the clean cozy design will leave you rested. Windows and skylights light the great, wood-beamed room where there is a pull out double couch, a renovated eat-in kitchen, and a dining table for six. The kitchen has cooking utensils, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The Cottage has cable, a flat screen, Blu Ray, and WIFI.
The Master bedroom looks out on the farm and the second bedroom has twins that can be pushed together to make a king. There is an in-between room that has a stackable washer/dryer and an additional single bed. There are clean linens, towels, and fresh soap.
Just outside the Schoolhouse, guests enjoy using a Weber Grill for barbeques and sitting on the Adirondack chairs and taking in the acres.
Depending on instructors' availability, beginners to advanced English riders can take lessons in our year-round, indoor riding barn or outdoors as they look up at the Shawangunk cliffs. Whether you ride or not, you're sure to enjoy walking the carriage trails, meeting the donkeys, ponies, and horses. Amateur photographers will love how the sun lights the farm the mountains, and the animals, etc.
The Cottage is a perfect location to enjoy the Hudson Valley. It is less than 5 minutes to the Mohonk Preserve trailheads and less than 10 minutes to Main Streets in New Paltz and Gardiner with great nearby restaurants and shopping.
Although we never imagined living on a farm - it is one of the prettiest places on earth. We love nature and never tire of cliff views, the changing light, and the chance to see hawks, wild turkey, deer, etc.
New Paltz is a phenomenal place to live with a great vibe in town and nice people who love outdoor adventures, art, and delicious food. We used to live in San Francisco and thought we'd never live anywhere else, until we got here.
Come visit our farm. It's a great place to be. If you've got kids, they will love meeting the donkeys, horses, ponies, chickens, and our friendly dogs: Charlie, Oscar, and Olive.
Tom purchased this house in 2007
The dead-on views of the Gunks. Early morning sun hits the rocks and the day begins fresh. At night we hear crickets, owls, frogs, and in the summer, we see fireflies as night sets. Hard to imagine a prettier place than LaLuna Farm.
The Schoolhouse Cottage has been a fun project. We like to make places nice...in this case, we wanted the Cottage to be the type of clean, quiet retreat we always wish for when we travel. We hope that our guests feel at home and enjoy the farm, the walking trails, the horses and animals. The Cottage is a perfect base for exploring the Hudson Valley.
The cottage is an upscale, artistically and luxuriously finished home. We loved our stay and every design & comfort detail in the house. I would definitely recommend this and I hope to stay again soon!
Tom was so friendly and welcoming, and what a beautiful farm he has!
The house was even nicer than in the pictures. Cozy and warm. A great place to spend time with family.
We had a lovely time at the cottage! Our kids really enjoyed visiting the horses and donkies, and we were amazed by the views. We found many wonderful outdoor activities in the area, from hikes at the nature preserve to apple picking, that we all throughly enjoyed!! The cottage is cozy and close to so many great places to visit and eat.
We had a wonderful vacation. We got to the cottage and found a nice bottle of wine to start our vacation. The cottage and grounds were lovely. The weather was wonderful and we where able to light a fire in the fire pit right outside of our front door. If you like hiking, and great food this is the area to visit.
We stayed at the Schoolhouse Cottage while we were in town the weekend. The place was spotless and easily accommodated 4 Adults. Tom and Julie were so gracious and open about letting us explore the horse farm. On our last night we sat around the fire under the stars enjoying the bottle of wine they left us when we arrived:). We are looking forward to coming back and staying an extra day or two.
This was our second visit to this wonderful farmhouse that is starting to feel a wee bit like home. We are attempting to book our third visit. Need I say more?
There is so much to do - every day. Here's a brief list:
Apple-picking; pumpkin picking; Art: Storm King Art Center and DIA Art Museum; Brew Houses, wine tasting, a whiskey distillery nearby; Cuisine...there are loads of restaurants to explore on both sides of the Hudson River given our proximity to the CIA, the Culinary Institute of America.
HISTORY: Huguenot Street - the oldest stand of functioning stone houses in America; Hyde Park is home to FDR's presidential library and Valkill where Eleanor Roosevelt lived.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: Walkway over the Hudson - a famous and fun state park for walking, roller-blading, jogging, etc. Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park offer amazing carriage trails for hiking, and premier rock climbing.
It's hard to capture the area in a few words. Safe to say, the Mid-Hudson Valley is a piece of paradise.
