About the property

2 Bedrooms+, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5-6

Enjoy our 5 acre secluded retreat at the edge of the Forest, where you can look out across a meadow to a stunning view of the Peaks. Our home has solar power and a rainwater collection system, and is at the edge of the ponderosa pine forest, which means you can hike, mountain bike, or cross country ski right out the door, or drive a few miles to a network of classic trails. A great home base for adventures. The cabin is located 3 miles from Snowbowl Road, which takes you to downhill skiing in winter and awesome hiking in summer. We are only an hour from the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater and Anasazi ruins (Wapatki & Walnut Canyon), and 17 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. Our guesthouse (aka, the Roost) can be a base for all your northern Arizona adventures.

The guesthouse is attached to our main house, but is completely separated and has its own entrance and parking area. It has a private sandstone patio with outdoor grill, table, and chairs.

The Roost's upstairs location next to pines gives it a treehouse feel, perfect for viewing the Peaks and birdwatching. Resident elk and deer commonly graze on the property.

About Suzanne

I'm a 12th generation Arizona native, who grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Flagstaff in 1975. I always wanted to build a cabin in the forest from the ground up, and had the opportunity to do so in the early 1990's, when this special land was sold to me by an old cowboy. I tried to build as sustainably as I could, with many local materials, and have a rainwater harvesting system as well as grid-tied solar power.

We have traveled all over North America, lived for nearly a decade on two other continents, and still feel the Southwest is the best place to call home. We love the variety of landscape, ecology, and climate within a few hour's travel, as well as the Native American influence in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We made use of the binoculars and the bird book. Having supper on the patio and watching the birds on the feeders was a treat. The view of Mt. Humphrey is fantastic!

Forest sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed with such warm hospitality into a wonderfully furnished and appointed home in the forest. The cabin was spotless, absolutely clean, with so many thoughtful touches - from dvds for the kids - to do many helpful books, maps and guides. We were so comfortable and dreaded when we had to leave. Cabin felt far away from everything and everyone but truthfully was only a mere 10-15 minutes from town and grocery and necessities. Can't wait to come back! Was the perfect place to relax and/or explore the riches of northern AZ from.

So perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fabulous tour of Arizona for spring break with three Ohio boys. This little cabin was lovely. We stayed for three nights while exploring the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, Walnut Canyon and Flagstaff. The final night our staff in Flagstaff, we visited the Observatory and pulled back into the cabin to a yard filled with Elk. The property and views are amazing, and the cabin is so perfect. We highly recommend.

Great Family Memories!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin retreat was truly a winner! My family and I used this beautiful cabin as a home base while visiting the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Everything was as pictured with clear instructions. We were fortunate to see several elk out the window while eating breakfast - quite a change from our city home in the Midwest!

Beautiful and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is beautiful and located in a peaceful place. We could see so many stars out at night and in the day a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountains.

It is close enough to Flagstaff to go out for dinner and located on the highway to the Grand Canyon.
