Overview

About the property

Harbor Cottage is nestled on the edge of the working waterfront of Corea Harbor. This updated cape style house, formerly owned by local fishermen, provides all the comforts of a cozy vacation home. The modest 2 bedroom cottage features a spacious kitchen open to dining and living areas, 2 full bathrooms, and an enclosed porch. Here, at the heart of the village, you’ll capture both charming street-side and harbor views.

Corea-By-The-Sea stakes out its own secluded portion of the town of Gouldsboro on the Schoodic Peninsula. At the water’s edge – in the thriving village hub – see fisherman at the daily grind. Watch them work aboard their boats, on the wharf, shuttling back and forth to the co-op and out to sea. At the Corea Lobster Co-op, purchase live lobster from the day’s catch. Here “in town” includes a post office, local shops, and eatery – all within walking distance. Take advantage of public access to a nearby walking path and a sand beach, and continue on to explore everything the peninsula has to offer.

The town of Gouldsboro – made up of the villages of Corea, Prospect Harbor, Birch Harbor, Bunker’s Harbor, Wonsqueak, Westbay and South Gouldsboro – offers all things Maine. Indulge your palate with local flavor: live lobster, fish market and smokehouse, fresh picked berries, organic farmed produce, and various options for convenience and dining out. As you exchange with some colorful characters at the town pub or community events, you’ll find the locals take pride in hosting folks “from away”. Gouldsboro, and neighboring Winter Harbor connect via the Schoodic Loop, and share a less-known slice of Acadia National Park. The Schoodic Peninsula is in tune with the area’s seasonal rhythm. Connect via bus or ferry, or schedule your own day trip, into the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. Adventure along Route 1 to explore the cities of Bangor and Ellsworth, and the scenery and attractions further downeast.

Any traveler deserves a welcoming home-base to seek out an authentic Maine experience. Here, visitors of all ages have full access to nature, sightseeing, outdoor recreation, the arts, and the popular tourist destinations. Enjoy the peace and simplicity of the rural fishing village life, or find your favorite space for respite between excursions. Rise early and be the first to see the sun come up in America, or soak in a spectacular sunset over the water. Above all, take time to breathe the salty ocean air and enjoy the view. So, come get a taste of “The Way Life Should Be,” and find your happy here.

Pretty place

  • 4 of 5

House was clean and in a great location, directly on the working waterfront, close to beaches and right next to a dockside seafood restaurant. We had a great stay. As mentioned in an earlier review, bedding could be upgraded. Also, bring water for drinking as the tap has a lot of iron in it.

Great place in a great little Maine harbor.

  • 5 of 5

The rental was great. Inside seemed to be newly refinished. The harbor was unique, you could walk a short distance to get great ocean views and also go swimming if you dare. The view from the house of the harbor was great, but we got socked in with fog for most of the week so we did not get much of a chance to admire it. It is close to Winter Harbor to catch the ferry to Bar Harbor, which was convenient. Restaurant right next door servers a great lunch. You can walk to the Corea co-op to buy your lobsters directly from the fishermen, which was great.

Cute, Great location for lunch, still needs a little updating

  • 4 of 5

The cute cottage fit our family really well and it was so nice to be right in the middle of a cute, seriously small town where fishing is their main thing. When we stayed in July, most of the boats were gone by the time we got up in the morning. The sunrise was at around 5am. I was impressed with how well they did that without making a ton of noise since we slept every night with the windows open. If you are there on a Sunday, I suggest you go to the church service, we met a VERY kind gentleman who invited us but we weren't there for a Sunday service.

The small side/back yard was probably the best feature of the place. Right off the back deck stairs are a couple of chairs that overlook the water. That was the most relaxing spot, in my opinion. But bring bug spray. The bugs get pretty hungry in the evening.

The cottage has had some recent updating done to it. The renovations looked great!! They did a good job. It fit all 5 of us without being crunched at all. The views from almost every window were beautiful and relaxing. It was nice to be able to watch the boats at night and in the morning right from the beds. And we had a brand new grill and bath linens! That was a nice treat.

I gave it 4 stars because, although the renovations look great and we were the 1st to use some things, there is still some updating that would make it better. The beds are very old and so were the bed linens. The appliances could also use some updating. But those things didn't cause us to have a bad experience in Corea. We were so spent by the end of the day that those things did not cause us to have any issues sleeping or getting anything else done.

This cottage was very homely for my family (5) and located in a very quiet area where there the view was awesome. Enjoyed it and would return on our next visit to Arcadia!
