My husband and I moved to Chattanooga in 2003 after graduating from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In 2005, we purchased this home as a labor of love. Over the past several years we've renovated this home from an empty shell to the jewel it is today. We loved the character of the home, originally built in the 1920s. So we stayed true to the homes historic features while adding modern conveniences. Since beginning the home's renovation, we got engaged on the front porch in 2006, we got married at the Hunter Museum in 2008, we started our own architectural business (located on Frazier Avenue) in 2009 and had our son in 2011 & another son on the way, due in 2014.
Jenn Smith purchased this house in 2005
This home is very near and dear to our hearts. We chose to buy this home because we love the area. The neighborhood is so alive with people walking their dogs, riding their bikes & sitting on their porches... everyone is always outside enjoying life and the company of others. The proximity to all Chattanooga has to offer is so convenient, whether walking or driving, it takes no more than a few minutes to get anywhere. This property is conveniently located to the interstate and a 10-minute drive to the airport.
What we love most about this home is the front porch. It's privately located in the tree tops away from cars and pedestrians on the street. From here, you can enjoy the birds and the squirrels & the view of Downtown. During baseball season, you can even watch the fireworks display from the privacy of this beautiful home's front porch!
Stayed here with family, plus cousin's family. A wonderful time in a wonderful location.
The house is well cared for, perhaps more so than any vacation rental I've had before. Also very kid friendly*: high chair, lots of toys on hand. Nice, roomy porches so the grown-ups can share some wine in the evening or coffee in the morning.
The location is great, too. We've been to Chattanooga many times, but this is the first we've been on North Shore. It was just as convenient as staying in the city, but was quiet and relaxing. There are shops and restaurants very close by (walkable if you can handle the hills), and you can get into the city itself in just a few minutes by car (or, again, even use the walking bridge if you're up for it). If you want to get to Lookout Mountain attractions, the parkway zips you around the city, so it's really only a couple extra minutes from this location, as compared to one in the city.
We would very much stay here again.
*Only caveat: The stairs to get in the place are no joke. We can handle them, and our kids are old enough that they can do it with someone holding their hand, but if stairs are a difficulty/danger, think twice.
Our family of 7 had plenty of room here. We walked across the bridge to downtown each day and found lots of fun activities to do. We had a blast!
Comfortable house with easy access to all of North shore area. Great spot to have kids. We really enjoyed our visit
Great location, beautiful house! We had a wonderful visit and Jenn was so easy to work with. I would absolutely recommend this property! Thanks again for letting us stay!
We loved our stay here. It was a perfect family home to enjoy a weekend away. Great setup! If I were to say anything negative, it would be the front steps. You had to go up three levels of stairs to get to the house. We made it and loved our stay.
Spent three nights over Thanksgiving. 2 couples. Everything was great, exactly as advertised. The cafe down the hill is really good for breakfast(the only meal we ate there). Easy walking distance to the river. Walked down to the pedestrian bridge every evening to watch the sunset on the river. Crossed the bridge and explored downtown during the day. Safe feeling neighborhood for walking. House is really big- more than enough room for two couples. Kitchen is extremely well stocked with every utensil you may need. As others have said, there are a lot of stairs to get in, but was not an issue for us. All in all a great find and highly recommend. Thanks, Jenn!
Enjoy a short walk across the Tennessee River to visit many more area attractions, such as the Tennessee Aquarium, IMAX Theater & Children's Creative Discovery Museum. Chattanooga is one of the most affordable vacation destinations in the country—so you can do it all. Whether you want to take in a play or concert, visit an amazing museum, be a part of the nightlife, enjoy the outdoors or experience a piece of history, it’s all here. Try taking a cruise on the river or check out the city on a guided tour (choose from duck tours, double decker bus or even ghost tours!). Then relax and enjoy a wine or whiskey tasting. Plan your trip today, and come make memories in Chattanooga that’ll last a lifetime.
