About Damon Rogers

Welcome! We are Damon and Mark Rogers, the grateful custodians of Damon's family home where we retired in 2000 after 30 years of Navy life. Mark is a retired Naval Officer, and we have been very fortunate to have lived and travelled all over the world.

The family home was built in 1919 and Generals Retreat and Captains Quarters (VRBO Listing #496791), two of our rental properties located behind the Big House, were originally built in 1970 as a guest home and office suite.

Much of the surroundings you'll see when staying at one of our vacation rentals in Franklin have been gradually collected during our Navy years and represent our strong Southern heritage and love of antiques.

Damon Rogers purchased this cottage in 1919

Why Damon Rogers chose Tennessee

Enjoy 1600+ square feet of historic elegance with gorgeous family antiques and art adorning the walls and shelves of our properties.

Entertaining is a breeze in the fully stocked kitchen with all of the cooking, serving utensils, stoneware dishes, glasses, and all entertaining necessities for up to 8. Plantation Shutters abound on three sides in the classically furnished separate the dining room that is appointed with an antique secretary, antique bar/serving area, and cherry antique pedestal dining table.

Cozy up in front of the beautiful mantled wood burning fireplace in the living room (wood provided). The master bedroom offers a reproduction Iron King bed, gorgeous & crisp linens, a walk in closet, and Queen Anne desk.

Just outside the master bedroom is an all Wicker-furnished private screened in porch. Step from either the screened-in porch or 2nd bedroom onto the outside patio with ample seating and umbrella table for outdoor dining. Take advantage of the outdoor gas grill with utensils, or sit around the portable fire pit with wood provided.

The second bedroom offers antique four poster twin beds and a built-in library loaded with books, board and card games, and movies. Separate laundry room adjacent to second bedroom plus a dressing room/make up area.

Linens and towels for kitchen are provided, as well as laundry and dishwasher supplies. The tiled bathroom has shower, ample thirsty towels, hair dryer and basic all-natural toiletries.

What makes this cottage unique

This charming guest home is situated at the back of the property of our original 1919 historic home, Stone Oaks. Step inside and you will feel right at home. The cherished family heirlooms - both furniture and art - each have their own story to tell. The plantation shutters throughout give homage to the Charleston, SC heritage and afford gorgeous views from throughout the home.

The screened-in porch and outdoor patio overlook a 3-board fenced side yard where you can enjoy games of badminton or cornhole, or simply sit in the yard in Damon's grandmother's glider and chairs under the oldest Elm Tree in Williamson County.

We believe that this property is the best kept secret in Franklin and are delighted to share it with you. This guest home was built as a home and has all the amenities of a bigger house on a smaller scale.

This property sleeps 4 but adjacent to Generals Retreat is Captains Quarters (VRBO Listing #496791), which sleeps 2, and both can be booked for a total of 6 people.

Wonderful stay! Beautiful setting! Mark & Damon were great hosts!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay in Franklin at the General's Retreat was a memorable one. The cottage will always hold a special place in our hearts since it was the first place we stayed after moving to TN from out of state. It was comfortable. Cozy even. We had everything we needed. Beautiful property, quiet location in Downtown Franklin. Our two doggies liked it too. Mark and Damon were great hosts. Very welcoming to our family. We would definitely return :-)

Total perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Truly the best kept secret in Franklin! Furnishings to die for and owners have thought of everything! The screened in porch and side patio overlooking a gorgeous green yard and white three board fencing is so picturesque, quiet and a simple reminder of the good ole days! Hated to leave but we will return!

Feels Like Grandma's House

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cottage was great for our long-term stay. Our hosts Damon and Mark were hospitable, friendly, accommodating, and helpful throughout our visit, and were eager to be of assistance with any inquiries we had.

We selected this rental for it's excellent Franklin location and because it is a dog-friendly property. At night, it is completely quiet with no traffic or neighborhood noise. For walkers, child play, dog exercise, or personal fitness, there is an excellent expansive park a short walk down the street with paved trails, sports fields, and a large playground. Kroger, Walgreens, and local eateries are a very short drive (5 min), with a strong recommendation for Pueblo Real Mexican restaurant a mile from the rental!

The dining room is the sunniest, brightest space in the house, and the kitchen is stocked with sufficient pots/pans/bakeware to prepare basic meals for longer-term stays. Other positives include lots of parking space door-side, plenty of bath towels, nice sheets, a soft and cozy king-sized bed, and full-sized kitchen appliances (dishwasher, fridge, and stove/oven). The in-unit washer and dryer worked well. Cable is basic (approximately 30 channels); both bedrooms have flat-screen TV's with an older console-style TV in the Living Room.

The decor is classy and traditional, with the comfort of visiting grandma's house. That means there are some time-worn imperfections--worn rugs, low lamp and overhead lighting, a small shower, etc. But it is a spacious cottage, clean, and comfortable, capable of meeting living needs for longer or short term stays.

We recommend this well-priced, friendly-hosted, well situated, residential neighborhood property for your Franklin stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review but would love to know what we could do differently to earn a 5 star. Hope you enjoyed the complimentary banana bread, waters, coffee, tea and hot chocolate readily available for your enjoyment. We did learn that the heating unit had a turn off switch thanks to your son! Glad you let us know he had turned it off as I had already called my maintenance service and was able to call them off! So happy you got to be with your family. Franklin is a wonderful place to live and visit.

Owner's Response: The 1903 home was updated in 2014 but you must have a respect for old homes to appreciate the integrity of older homes! Hope you enjoyed the banana bread and the well stocked kitchen and the two brand new bathrooms with spa tub! Hope you enjoyed the Pilgrimage Festival too!
