This second floor private suite includes a kitchenette with granite countertops, abundant cookware and dishes, venting skylight and ample storage. The living room is brightly lit, warmly decorated and includes a queen sofa bed, a computer desk workstation with stools and a 42” Samsung flat screen TV with Sony blue ray DVD
The bedroom has a queen bed and 2 large windows with beautiful views., The full bathroom is bright, with granite countertop, high quality fixtures and heart pine floors. The suite is accessed by its own convenient and creative outdoor staircase with picturesque second floor deck. Use of a infrared sauna can be arranged with the owners.

Our interests include swimming, hiking, biking, traveling, and we love meeting new people. When traveling we enjoy experiencing local cultural experiences and the people native to that area. Travels that we yet long for are many, including bicycling in Bhutan, revisiting South America and always more time in Southern France or Nova Scotia, Canada (Richard's home previous to Asheville.)

We've seen Asheville grow from a desolate downtown into the thriving, vibrant community that it is today. We love sharing “our town” with visitors. We are familiar with many special places of nature to visit via foot, bicycle, boat or motor vehicle. We also are happy to share our favorite restaurants, microbreweries and music venues.
Brief history on the house:
The land was purchased on August 29,1897 for $300. The house is believed to be built a year later in 1898. George and Isabelle Cooke built the house. He was born and educated in England. He entered the lumber business in Canada and met and married his wife there. He had lumber mills in Canada and Florida and it was this business that brought him to Asheville, where he established a lumber mill at the present site of the Biltmore Estate, the property afterwards was bought by George W. Vanderbilt. He was a resident of Asheville for nearly half a century and he was connected with Hans Rees Tannery, buying timber and bark, and his reputation for honest dealing made him known and revered throughout Western North Carolina.
We have owned this house since 1997.
We have created an atmosphere in our home/suite that reflects the type of warmth, hospitality and relaxation that we have often been blessed to enjoy while traveling abroad. We hope that you will enjoy your stay here !

My daughter and I spent two nights at the apartment. This was our first VRBO / Home Away stay. Great location- near UNCA campus and downtown. We enjoyed having comforts of home and room to relax in a quiet space. No surprises- all details and information accurately stated. We both agreed we would happily stay again.

This was the second time we've stayed at Richard and Audrey's property and there's a reason we came back. The living quarters offer much more than a standard hotel room and the location can't be beat. We will be back for many more trips!
For 2 yrs. I've rented in Asheville where I visit with 3 grown grandkids and myson. Noone sleeps over but they visit and we eat together.The upstairs apartment was exceptionally inclusive as described, the neighborhood as convenient, our stay as private as promised. I would return if they put in a real small stove, the microwave and toaster oven became inadequate.EVERYTHING else was extremely pleasing! Carolyn from Southampton, NY
