About Habitat

My husband and I live in Bend, Oregon. I am an Emergency Room Nurse and he is a Firefighter Paramedic. We have 2 boys, Rameen and Kian ages 6 and 4. Both boys love our home and Costa Rica as much as we do.

Habitat purchased this house in 2008

Why Habitat chose Cocles

My husband and I travelled to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica for our honeymoon in 2005. We fell in love with the area and vowed to return. The next year we travelled back and bought our lot from a local Costa Rican family who has since become wonderful friends of ours. The following year we visited and found a builder. Our home was completed in December 2008. Our son, Rameen, was born that year and made his first trip to 'Casa Rameen'

What makes this house unique

We love our home because it it the perfect and most comfortable family home. With an outdoor shower to clean little feet coming back from the beach, to the toucan's flying over, everything leads to a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Over the years, my husband has planted flowers and trees and it has been amazing to see how they have grown into a gorgeous garden. Being able to eat fruit directly from our yard is just amazing. The neighborhood is quiet and filled with wonderful locals and expats. We wouldn't change a thing.

Great Value, spacious and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Lots of character and great location very near several nice beaches and the funky Peurto Viejo village. The best features of the house are the large deck and the outdoor bathroom with an open air shower (but plenty private). Beds are very comfortable, kitchen functional. We had a very enjoyable 4 day stay in this fantastic corner of Costa Rica.

411 on an amazing stay in PV and CASA RAMEEN!

  • 5 of 5

Stay at Casa Rameen for 7 days with pure relaxation! Stayed here with my girlfriend, her little sister, and friend. All of us from Vancouver, Canada in our late twenties with full time jobs. We are not hostel types. Casa Rameen and Puerto Viejo was just what we were looking for in our vacation. The house has everything you need to be self-sufficient; fans galore, coffee maker, blender, refrigerator, dishes and tupperware for leftovers. Eating meals on the deck and utilizing the bbq and hammocks is a must. One of the highlights is definitely the outdoor shower and toilet. Taking a cold shower during a thunderstorm left me awestruck.

The house itself like many other's in PV was very basic in construction, but what it lacked in modernity, was overcompensated with location and character. Care takers had excellent communication and helped us with any needs we had. Being in the jungle, wildlife was abundant the entire trip. Sloths, howlers, geckos, and birds birds birds!

We rented bikes for the entire week, which we kept at the house without a worry. Biking to the beach and grocery store was 5 min. but walking to the beach was just as easy as a ten min walk. PV's bank, restaurants, bars and shops are about 15 min away by bike. We biked or walked need for taxi even at night!

One last thing. We stayed the beginning of May or rainy season. PV and all adjoining towns were void of tourists during our stay :) Our rain jackets and warm clothes never left our bags until we got back on the plane to go home...literally. All you need is a swim suit, sandals, and some water. It rained everyday, but generally in the evening/night, which with the heat became inviting. When the weather is 30-35 everyday, you don't mind the rain. One after noon at the beach it began to rain, so we simply went swimming in the warm ocean water, than walked home in the warm rain. Pura Vida Man!

Don't forget your sunscreen and bug spray ;).

It was a lovely property with a superb and unique bathroom!

  • 4 of 5

We were met by the property manager who was very welcoming and helpful.

We enjoyed a 3 night stay and found the property to be comfortable. It is in a secluded spot and has some great wildlife for entertainment. The local dogs are also very friendly!

The outside area with hammocks was a nice bonus and overall we had a very enjoyable stay, as the location was ideal for us.

comfortable, clean, close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Rameen was great! My daughter and I stayed there for a week. The place was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our visit. We walked to the beach, rode bikes, went shopping and had dinner. The howler monkeys woke us in the morning which was a great experience. I would recommend this place to everyone looking for a reasonably priced, clean accommodation.

A jungle gem!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2 young sons and I just returned from Casa Rameen and what a fantastic experience! Such a quaint and clean house in the jungle. Everything went smoothly as Guillermo, the property manager, was extremely helpful and made our stay a very pleasant one. He even brought us coconuts and banana to try from his own property. The open and airy feeling of the house and the indoor outdoor bathroom make this a unique property that you need to experience. The is so much wildlife around, like dogs, cats and chickens/roosters, along with the toucans and howler monkeys, so much nicer hearing these sounds than the hum of a highway, like back home. We did have an issue with the wifi, for the first 3 days, but were happy to have it fixed for the last half of our trip. The close vicinity to Playa Cocles, makes for a lovely walk or bike ride, and everything else is so close and easy to access, it is the perfect spot. There are so many wonderful things to do, like the Jaguar Rescue Centre, Aventurras Canopy Tour zip lining and the waterfall on the way to Bribri are must sees. Just don't forget to plan some time on the beautiful beach and check out the cool vibe in Puerto Viejo. Must visit places are Caribeans Chocolate Tasting Lounge and Cafe Rico. We also enjoyed Tasty Waves, Alice's homemade ice cream and De Gustibus Bakery. Enjoy all that this wonderful caribbean casa has to offer.
