About Mary Palmer
We have lived in the Algarve for 30 years, brought up two children here and are now enjoying semi-retirement. We live near Lagos, about twenty minutes' drive from Figueira, on a country property and now live the 'good life' with a vegetable garden and chickens, plus cats and dogs. We are now proud grandparents of Thomas and Georgia, and love to spend time with themboth in the UK and especially when our daughter comes over here with them.
Mary Palmer purchased this House in 2004
Why Mary Palmer chose Figueira
We bought Casa Maria as we had both worked at Parque da Floresta, the golf and leisure resort nearby, and had come to love the village and the surrounding countryside and coastline.
What makes this House unique
That area of the Algarve has a microclimate that is very beneficial for the flora - there is hardly any frost so plants that can't survive cold conditions thrive there.

Absolutely lovely property. Great host. Very pretty village location, near countryside & beach.
Full of character, style and comfort. Fabulous indoor and outside spaces. It was a real pleasure to stay here. Greatly surpasses many other holiday accommodation experiences in every respect. Hope to return. The thoughtful and practical touches by our host Mary made this a very easy place to stay without compromise. Sorry to leave! Thank you so much Mary for a lovely stay.
Once again had a lovely short break in this beautiful converted barn, thank you Mary for all the extra bits in the fridge etc which made the stay even more comfortable.
Excellent with a few reservations
A very nice experience but as it was winter, we found the house very dark, understandably so in the summer
Hard to believe this was a barn. Casa Maria is a beautifully remodelled place in the center of Figueira. It is everything you could possibley want. Lots of space on two floors, lots of privacy, quiet and still at the heart of porugese live. We can highly recomend it !
Exactamente lo que buscábamos
La anfitriona muy amable nos dejó más de lo necesario para nuestras primeras horas en su casa. La zona es un remanso de paz.
Veramente attrezzata , accoglienza ospitale. Tutto oltre le aspettative.
Figueira is half way between Sagres and Lagos, surrounded by beautiful countryside and a few minutes' drive from its delightful secluded beach. The village itself has several small shops, restaurants and bars, but retains its own individual character, with narrow winding streets and whitewashed cottages. It is in an outstanding area for relaxing and sports, with golf, tennis surfing, diving, and many other activities available nearby. The beaches on the west coast are spectacular and never crowded and many beaches have restaurants nearby offering freshly caught fish. Sagres and Lagos are both steeped in history and Lagos' lively night life is a twenty minute drive away. The fishing village of Salema is five minutes away by car and retains much of its charm.
